does make sense - in a nonsensical kind of way lol. my college tutor played a through neck late seventies early eighties sattelite p/j bass, from a kays catalogue, through a trace blx 80 and it sounded superb. he did though have a stunning technique which leads to to believe that playing is all in the hands not the instrument or amp.

defo a snob! hate dead string as well! made in Mexico or China doesn't work for me! basses that is! So sorry for being a snob...It took me nearly 30 years to find a bass which works for me in terms of tone, feel and playability! anyhoo its easy being a gear snob when you are a lazy rubbish player like me! lol.

My yamaha trb5 has since been retired, 10 years of gigging made me think it was due some down time! I have two yamaha attitudes mkI & II of which I use the mkI as my main bass. I am in the process of building a bass - have been for 16months - it was a 40th birthday project and will finish it when I get the time too. I am going to buy two basses in the next year: the new yamaha attitude mk3 the new yamaha bb714 making a total of six. the others will remain as they hold sentimental value to me. andy

A few years back I was watching a documentary/rockumentary on the Who. Part of this interview was a one on one with John discussing his playing style and technique, he demonstrated how he played and explained why he played like this...it was awesome! Just him his bass and a practice amp, the sound was great the technique was...well only his and the inspiration I got from it was tremendous. Wish the producers had elaborated on this as I could have watched this for hours instead of a few minutes.. andy

Paul[/quote] right! before you go mad...I have never known a jazz to give ample 'meat'! try another bass first. secondly ampeg b-410hlf is cracking value at the moment and it produces great amounts of bottom end. I just bought a b-115e cab at £269 from SC, I'm astonished at the bottom end on this and the sound it produces! check out - value for money wise - B-410he, b-410hlf and b-115e cabs. The b-cabs arn't too heavy and fit easily into standard cars. Go on do the road trip! Newcastle is a great city. Locals are great. I try to get down at least once a year I would suggest doing the whole thing though, leave early morning say around 5am, take some time out to enjoy the city, pick up your amp/cab and travel home. This would cost me around £70 for a 700 mile journey. If you want the amp/cab and its a real good price taking into account your costs - do it. andy

Please dont shoot me! I am a fan of John Entwhistle and The Who... but I really think that solo is p*sh, it makes no sense? It sounds so trebley. The active electronics are so thin and overdriven that you cant make the notes out or any real 'scale/key/structure' he attempting to put together. Sorry John not a goody for me! Watching the wont be fooled again video got me thinking?? I wonder if Harry sheare based his character 'Derek Smalls' from Spinal Tap on John Entwhistle? andy
