T-Bay

I have a T- bird, no neck dive whatsoever, I hate neck dive with a passion and read about the alledged T-bird issues but then saw a thread on here with several pics showing no issues so bought one. I wouldn't swap it now. I am glad they are doing some different finishes and hope the 2018 range has some completely new stuff as well.

We play quite a few songs in this genre, I have used both my Precision and my Thunderbird, the Thunderbird always gets the compliments and sounds best to my ears. Always with fresh Roto 66s no more than 6 weeks old (I do practice a lot so they have a good few hours on by then). I use a TE combo and cab, EQ set to boost mids (bright strings seem to deliver top end). Mild compression on all the time. I have tried a variety of overdrive and not yet found one I am 100% happy with but have a TC mojomojo on its way which I hope will sort this. I always play finger style and it works for me.

That is gorgeous, what wood is the front? I have searched fractal birch but didn't come up with anything like that.

I am wondering why he built his conservatory uphill.

Our last gig I had this middle aged woman come over to me after the bar and said I was a 'F'ing rock god' three or four times. She was half soaked and whilst it was nice to be complimented and I do think we played a good set, it was more than a little of an over exaggeration to say the least. She seemed to ignore both guitarists which was quite funny as one of ours is very animated when playing. Mind you a lot of people avoided our drummer as he had blood sprayed over his face like he had been in a big fight, he had cut his hand during the first song of the second set but just carried on spraying blood everywhere for a while. His kit was right mess when we unloaded it the next morning.

Got mine and it's fine for £2.

[/quote] I am with you on this, Stock Aitken and Waterman were the perfect example of this. They knew how to market someone singing a tune with copied/ existing hooks but 'popped' up knowing that kids of a certain age would buy it in their droves. Doesn't make it good music but it does make them good at making money in the music business.

Tbf be fair it doesnt say master luthier, just master, in the same way that boys under 18 can be referred to as master ....... before they become mister ..........

Most bands would kill for a back catalogue like theirs.

I have an old Marshall B150 as a backup and it has a lovely warm sound to it, a mate has the identical model but his sounded tinny and cheap. A swap to a decent valve and his sounds like mine now. Until you play about with them it's hard to appreciate the difference they make to the sound.

That's how I play mine, not had any complaints about the sound, quite the opposite in fact.

I have had chance to watch it and thought it was great. Not perfect but what live performance is?

[/quote] Thanks, as I said above I have only heard good things about the Harley Benton range, I have a cheapy Ibanez TMB30 I bought after reading reviews on here and it's a cracker of a short scale bass, maybe a little lacking at the bottom end but maybe that's because I usually play a Thunderbird. I was in PMT on Wednesday hoping to try out the Ibanez but they didn't have it in stock, all the ones I tried were on roundwounds which the guys working there commented on.

I had looked at those but can't find anywhere with one in stock that close enough for me to have a look at. They always seem to get good reviews from what I have read on here. At that money it's not the end of the world and from them I could send it back f it's terrible I suppose.

I think they are victims of the 'amazing album' syndrome. They release something that has a certain sound and is loved by loads of people, do theya, release more of the same until people get bored or b, try something new that a load of people won't like, or c, do the hardest trick of all and release something that is new enough to be different yet retain the elements that people love. Only the best pull it off and they certainly haven't.

I started playing almost exactly a year ago, my first gig was last Christmas time. I was lucky to fall in with a few guys at work who are experienced and we work out set lists to suit all of us. My playing at the December gig wasn't terrible but was far from amazing but I only got positive feedback. It's a brilliant way to learn more and I know I wouldn't be half as far down the road as I am now as it gives an incentive to really push yourself. The advice above is very good, from the start I concentrated on playing songs all the way through. Something like she sells sanctuary by the cult seems almost boringly simple but was a real ball breaker at first due to the speed and length of it, after a couple of weeks I could play it in my sleep and another three or four quick ones back to back with it. Just go for it, if people don't like what you are doing, who cares, move on and you find someone you fit in with.

I had one from them asking for an extra fee as the box was of 'unknown dimensions', I replied that is was of very much known dimensions as I had typed them in personally, I got a reply saying is a 'computer glitch' (isn't it always when they have cocked up) and not to worry about it.

I fancy dipping my toe in the fretless world but don't want to spend too much Ibanez do a fretless model of their entry level GSR model for about £220. Does anyone have any experience of this end of their range? Is it worth looking at? They also do the Sr370 in fretless but it's £370 and I really don't like the finish. Any other suggestions? I also wondered about getting a sub£100 second hand cheaply but limited option in fretless basses it seems.

Yup, just a straight boost and it seems pretty transparent in my experience.

I think he may be confusing it with the full size TC spark pedal which I think does a preamp/ mild overdrive thing if you dial it in, the mini just the clean boost.

[/quote] I have the 250w version with extension cab, I have played in a big pub room (120 people at the event and plenty of space for more) and mine was set on 3 input and one click over three output, a theatre which seated 260 people only had it on 4 output. Not sure what sort of place we would need to,p,at to get it up to the big numbers. Mine was £170 with a 2x10 cab.
