  1. I am lucky as our drummer is superb technically and a great bloke to boot. We do tend to speed up a fair bit by the end of the night but that suits me anyway. He also has an almost uncanny ability to improve with alcohol consumed to a point beyond which we haven’t been able to test him. He is certainly better at drumming than talking when he is well gone.
  2. The tone is fine when I dial it in, it is purely that lack of consistency across the strings that is the issue. It’s an odd one and one that I have never come across before with any pedal. What I really want is an effect that is almost transparent when played normally but gives a bit of growl when I dig in.
  3. And me, it’s a good looking thing to me
  4. I have tickets for Nottingham on Saturday, disappointing to hear about at the drive in as I saw them live a while back and they were very good. Hopefully it was just a bad sound night for them
  5. I bought a mojomojo based on recommendation from here and I am not feeling the love. In particular it seems overly aggressive on the low strings, so if I set a nice overdriven sound on the E string I seem to get nothing on the G, if I set a tone I like on the G I get more like full on distortion on the E. My search for the perfect overdrive continues.......
  6. I wonder with some if it’s an effect of the Gumtree knuckle dragging buyers. I recently sold a Yamaha bass for a truly bargainous price of £100, I put it up at £110 ovno making it obvious that I wanted £100..... or so I thought. I had quite a few idiots offering £40-60. Bear in mind it was the only one below £150 as it was. Eventually a bloke offered sensible money and picked up the same day, it could not have gone to a better guy. But it makes me think that some stuff I see overpriced is maybe building in the idiot factor, I want £100so put it up at £200 and when they offer half that you are there.

    New Site Features

Like everything new it takes a little while to get used to and get your preferences set right but it does seem to be a very worthwhile upgrade and genuinely better than the old software. Knowing how long such things take it’s a big thanks from me for all the hard work by everyone involved.
  8. I was put last night so didn’t have chance to do anything but not much is going to happen anyway until I can get down the woodyard bit will put a pic up of the assorted goodies if I get a chance tonight.
  9. Let’s face it, even the worst of us is 99.9%better than the average of the population and 100%better than someone who worries so much they don’t have a go.
  10. Could be 50p could be stupid money, someone has taken one hell of a punt.
  11. Did a trade, great communications, item posted as promis d and exactly as described. Perfect transaction. Thanks
  12. This ^^^^ it comes down to what falls to hand and seems right for the part you are playing.
  13. Ah poo, just unwrapped the neck and it’s amazing for an eBay special -how can they make them for that money? It needs one fret filing at one end but is otherwise very nice indeed. The problem is that it seems criminal to start chopping it about. sooooooooo do I stick with the headless idea or change and go for a Fender bird?
  14. Thanks guys, I was thinking more on whether to use biscuits or dowels. From what I have read either would be sufficient. A load of bits have arrived today so I can start fiddling about as soon as I get a second.
  15. Try and find some other people to play with, you will be amazed how fast you will come on once you start fitting in as part of the whole picture as it were. You will also find that some songs are stupidly simple for the bass and they can help with the basics such as consistency and finger strength. Most of all just have fun!
  16. It’s never too late, I started playing 13 months ago at 45, started gigging 11.5months ago! Loving it.
  17. So far I have sourced a neck, headless mechanism and a pair of Gibson pick ups. None have arrived yet but the postie will be busy over the next few days. I have also found a decent place localish to get a good bit of timber from but it will be a couple of weeks before I get a chance to visit due to work clashing with their opening hours. So I need to start researching threads on here to find the best way to join the two pieces together.
  18. Thankfully I am living proof that is not true in all cases. My father was a hopeless romantic and loved anything trashy -think Bonnie Tyler, Rene and Renata etc etc. I like a wide range of music but on the whole my tastes couldn’t be further from those if I tried. I distinctly remember hearing the sex pistols when I was 8 or 9 and thinking that it was amazing compared to the crap I heard at home.
  19. I had a play with one in my local music shop, I was very impressed with it and compared VERY favourably with my MiM Fender.
  20. .....what I like? Just reading the Jaco thread has got me pondering one of the questions I often spend time thinking about - why does some music appeal over other styles/ bands/ songs? It’s a subject I have wondered about for years. When I hear some songs I get an almost drug like rush and others do nothing or even make me feel quite negative (I’m looking at you Coldplay). What is it about some combinations of sounds and voices have that ability when others don’t? I don’t suppose it’s something that can be answered but it fascinates me.
  21. I work on the grounds that if it’s free expect it to be value for money, if it’s decent then it’s a bonus. They are mixed but it usually only takes a couple of minutes to spot the decent ones. I use bigbasstabs and most are ok and a decent number are very good.
  22. Feel free.....
  23. I don’t understand why the balance point is such an issue for a lot of makers, it’s a fairly simple thing to calculate after all. I messed about with ways of improving the balance on the scrap EB0 I refurbished, even small changes can make massive differences. My Gibson T-bird has no issues at all. This one will be lighter in the body but that should be countered by the lack of head. The headless tuner/ bridge also shifts the weight that way so it isn’t one of my worries (plenty of other things are!).
  24. I would imagine it could be tricky to keep that in tune.
