1. Even if the 'clear the air' meeting works out to some degree the differences will still be there, there may also be undercurrents and resentments from all sides depending on the outcome. If you weren't happy anyway then I doubt they are going to fulfill all the ideas you have which would improve things for you. So probably best to move on and see what else is about that fits you better.
2.
Should be on display in a museum - proper bit of rock history, that is.
I agree completely and luckily that's what it will be bought for (possibly not the museum bit unfortunately). Someone will treasure it for the history. What it does now compared to new kit is irrelevant, it won't be bought by a budding producer because they can't afford a new one.
3. If he paid £5 it was £10 too much.
4. Epiphone Gothic thunderbird for sale on shpock, sensible price but mentions 'professional repair' to input area. I have a bit of GAS for one of these and if it's been professionally repaired then I can live with that if the price is right. Then I scan across the pics and find this: So what 'professional' did this? Professional plasterer? Or professional ice hockey player perhaps?
5. I haven't been playing long but found the neck dive on an EB3 ruined the experience for me. I have now turned up an extension that shifts the strap mount behind them neck and cures the problem. I can on,y think they built the bodies for a lead guitar length and then didn't even think about balance before they stuck a standard bass length neck on. Real shame.
6.
You can electroplate stuff at home using donuts of donor metals, a battery charger, buckets and solutions, I have always fancied having a go but it looks a bit of a faff tbh. It does however end up with an anodized finish much more suitable for a bass bridge. Powder coat is a bit clunky all told.
Being lucky enough to run my own lab at work I have played about with various plating and anodising options. I have had some really good results, and some rubbish ones. Getting reliable results time after time seems closer to alchemy than chemistry. I have plated car and motorbike parts myself but don't think I would want to try a £100 bridge.
7. One I find tricky but in an annoying way is she sells sanctuary by the Cult. It's annoying as it is stupidly simple but it's just relentless so keeping concentration and timing for 4 minutes takes some doing for me. More complicated songs seem much easier to get spot on. To me it was a case of learn it in two minutes but then it seemed to take an age to get it perfect to me, maybe I am being too precise as the rest of the band didn't seem to notice what I deemed mistakes but I noticed them.
8.
It's accurate with regard to the fan blast from the by-pass duct. In fact you can be killed outright, diced and then minced if you get too near an intake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO1V8E6Qb9M
The story we were told was to stand by a wall on London Rd and give each other a backy so your head was over the wall whereupon ypunwould be blown over, I could be wrong but I think the H&S was probably good enough to stop that from happening! But as I said, at twelve you believe all sorts.......
9.
Not sure which was which but there was a record shop on The Strand too. I wondered where I'd heard or seen Way Ahead before but when I put "Way Ahead Records" into Bing I got "BPM Records" out. Perhaps they will enlighten you when you visit. Westfield is now called "Intu". I hate it whatever it's called. If you suffer with tinnitus avoid the public toilets because the air driers are far too loud. I think they nicked 'em from Royce's test beds.
I remember going down to where they used to test the RB211s as a kid as a mate told us that they would blow you over if you stood in the right place, we were never lucky enough to see or hear them running and I doubt our mates story would have been accurate but when you are 12 anything is possible! We are spoiled these days with access to new music, in some ways it's hard to remember how you used to find out about stuff.
10. It's hard as there are so many great ones to choose but mine would be Jean Jacques Burnel and Michael McKeegan, not necessarily the best but most influential on me. I am surprised Jack Bruce hasn't been mentioned yet, he would also be up there for me as well.
11.
Looks like they may still be trading as "BPM" - https://www.bing.com/local?lid=YN1029x104104376&id=YN1029x104104376&q=BPM+Records+Derby+Derbyshire&name=BPM+Records&cp=52.92343~-1.479184&qpvt=way+ahead+records+derby
I think BPM were the ones who used to be in the arcade in Sadler gate weren't they? Way Ahead was over the other side opposite what was then Argos and next to the Army recruitment office. It's now that big horrendous shopping centre - Westfield? I am up in Derby on Saturday but it's a quick visit, I will drop into BPM next time I get a chance though.
12. It days On hold now so someone will be the happy new owner soon.
13.
I loathe hair metal. Back in 1988 it was very useful to me to know whether a band was hair metal or thrash metal before I bought the album based on the sleeve artwork or edgy sounding name. Remember, no Youtube, spotify etc. If you couldn't get a tape from your mates or their big sister/brother you had to buy the thing to hear it. So there is a big vote for well defined genre names!
What's wrong with asking the music shop to play it first? Way ahead in Derby was awesome, full of similarly minded spotty youths waiting for the next big thing. They would happily stick it on for the whole shop to listen to if it was quiet or via a pair of headphones if it was busy and you were one of a few. It was also word of mouth through mates 'have you heard such and such they are great/ crap'. I can't imagine just buying something based on the album cover, some of my collection would not have been bought and Big Black 'songs about ******* would have had me running scared!
14. I love the term hair metal, it was cock rock 'back in the day' where I was. But why worry about 'Genres' it's just for borderline OCD people who have to pigeonhole stuff. I condsider there to be three types of music, the stuff you love, the stuff you tolerate and the stuff you loathe. Beyond that it really doesn't matter.
15.
Are you talking about Engineers, Technicians or just repairers?
Engineers as it says, I don't have much experience with people who term themselves as the others but my electronics engineer mate is equally scathing about ANYONE involved in the electronics business!
16. I think many people miss the point in this by wrongly assuming eBay will mediate in any problems, sadly in my experience as a seller they simply find in favour of the buyer even when there is overwhelming evidence otherwise. That is why I don't sell on eBay anymore. This guy may be completely legitimate but might not, why risk it? From the other side, I took a chance and bought a bass off eBay it made sure I spoke to the seller before and confirmed condition and how it would be packaged and which courier (UPS) etc. He was brilliant and packed it in bubble wrap in a padded gigbag, in a box wrapped in bubble wrap inside another box. It was a good job too as the outer was pierced in three places and one had gone through the bubble wrap and pierced the inner. The bass was fine but you do wonder what some of these places do with the parcels.
17. I can still remember as though it was yesterday when I heard he was dead. I was living in Delft in the Netherlands and the only English language station I could get was the world service, after some non news of this and that the announcer, in a very plummy accent, said 'in other news, American popular singer Kurt Cobain committed suicide today, he was 23, and in sports news.........' They couldn't even get his age right. I can still remember the feeling of it being such a tragic loss but struggled to find any information until I got a copy of the NME from the station in Den Haag a week later. Such a loss :-(
18.
More so than musicians?
now there is a question..........
19. It looks great, when you see the close up you can see the proportions but the green really does come through when viewed as a whole. It's quite surprising really.
20.
80% of degree educated electronic engineers can't spell in my experience (18 years in the industry). Don't even get me started on their grammar! The younger they are, the worse it gets.
Having designed and built electric race cars the dealings I have had with electronics engineers over the years have had me pulling my hair out. I have only met one reliable one in all the years and he is now one of my best mates. He is the first to say what an unreliable bunch they are as a whole. Good ones are in such demand they can get away with being unreliable and troublesome in ways other trades can't. Bad ones still get by as often they are the only ones you can get to look at stuff as the good ones are so busy!

Dirt.

I think you really need to try them out yourself on your setup. I have fiddled about trying to get the sounds I want for an age now. In the end I have found a TC dark matter works for a gentle dirt set up and a Boss metal zone of all things for a heavier sound (available for pennies off any second hand website you choose to look at). The Boss was a complete surprise as I have to admit I expected it to be overly heavy for the sake of it but it's actually quite versatile and the cheapness means I am happy to have it for occasional use.
22. I am a moderator on a motoring forum and it's a thankless job in many ways. There is loads of work behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly and when it goes well no one notices but if you ever have a problem everyone notices! I have not been on here long but had to contact Ped over a minor issue with a purchase from here and he could not have been more helpful. I find it a very welcome site, especially for someone who is still very much a beginner like myself, and in the short time I have been on here I have already made a couple of new friends and weirdly caught up with others I have known over the years but lost touch with for various reasons.
23.
Singer/guitarist Paul is mate of mine. They had reunion tour last year but then went their separate ways again.
Ah, crap, I would have loved to see them live again :-(
24. +1 some are better than others. I now use the B3 for the less used effects and have my common ones as stand alone. To me it works as a good compromise between quality and not carrying a board that is the size of New Guinea.
