  1. This is in early by my standards. I started out under the influence of the Sneaky Little Devil type slow grooves, toyed briefly with cod-reggae and ended up here. Not sure where here is, there aren't any signs and I arrived here very quickly! This tune is meant to make you feel uneasy. It's often in 15/8, and often not. Mustang bass into valve amp with a bit of drive. Godin guitar into same amp with CryBaby. Drums with parallel compression and distortion, a new experiment. All the glitches are as-played, no fancy slicing and dicing going on in the digital domain. No siree!
  2. From behind the kit:
  3. You haven't heard it yet!! I have actually cobbled something together tonight. It's rather odd, and not gone where I expected. At all. I'll listen again tomorrow and see if it's worth posting or fettling a bit more. The good news for Dad is there's plenty of crunchy drums in there, along with Steve Hillage on Mogadon...
  4. Careful what you wish for...
  5. I'm probably out this month. All I've got is a drum take that's mainly in 15/8, then the wheels fell off in the middle. I cut my finger on Saturday and haven't felt inclined to play since. So it won't be worth posting what I've got so far. Sorry
  6. I'm a little addicted to this guy's band too - Sneaky Little Devil. It's very laid back, exactly how you'd expect from hearing him talk! He uses clips from the band's backing tracks to demonstrate ideas in some of his videos.
  7. Nice idea. I'd like to see a cam operated clamping system for quick string change. I'm sure it's feasible.
  8. I had a weird thing that probably wouldn't occur on any other bass, but it took an age to track it down. I had convinced myself the truss rod was rattling as the neck is very stiff and doesn't need much tension on the nut. It wasn't, it was the metal control cavity plate, despite the screws being as tight as they would go. A tiny amount of electrical tape between cover and body sorted it.
  9. Jimmy Webb on sky arts right now!
  10. The Studiospares m1000 and m2000 aren't bad for around 60 Quid
  11. Thanks bud! I am digging it, and really like the Status half round strings on it. Even the black silks match!
  12. Happy to oblige! See, it's not that frightening! Also gives an impression how weeny I am
  13. It has gratified me that as in many things, I have not gone with the consensus which seemed mainly too be keep it "normal ", or not too different. In fact, even living with it for half a day it now looks normal to me. In a way, the swept back looks mirrors the lower edge of the head and the shafts are actually perpendicular to that edge.
  14. From what to what @Ricky Rioli?
  15. I can see that. I think it would be more difficult to adjust, with my short arms.
  16. It's gold. It's a shame they left the "Mustang Bass" bit in black as it's invisible against the head. You can only make out it's there at all in bright sunshine!
  17. Did anyone get in touch with Watchdog on the telly over this? It is the sort of thing they love!
  18. Thanks for the opinions folks, keep them coming . I'll show you what I went with this evening. Regarding balance, these are about the equivalent of having one fewer standard Fender machine. The difference is subtle but just about noticeable and subsequently balance is a little nicer.
  19. Just got some Gotoh 707s for my fsr Mustang, and as they need different screw holes it gives me the opportunity to change the angle they sit on the head. But which looks best? Perpendicular to the headstock edge as is traditional, slightly angled so perpendicular to the neck edge or more angled like some Warwick basses?
  20. Sperzel do mix n match colours on their machine heads. I don't think they do bridges though
  21. How about 3 pickups on a sliding plate? You could cover pretty much all possible standard positions without having a plate that actually moves too far. I think that's a pretty neat idea!
  22. I've always loved his take on ppe
