1. The F1 head has (I believe) a digital power supply which allows them to be made smaller and lighter. In terms of volume and what you can drive etc the heads are pretty much the same. The F1 head does have more control over the bottom end, and as UB says, sounds a bit faster with a smoother top end. The F1's highs are a lot sharper than those of the LMII. Oh, and don't forget, the F1 is a LOT more expensive... looks cool though. I would really like to try the new 800 and 1200w MarkBass heads, as I can imagine the headroom would make for a lovely dynamic and controlled sound. They use a similar power supply to the F1 head as well.
2. i know theyree not lightweight or exactly the best speakers on the market but I have a pair of emi beta 10's for sale if you fancy them. just drop me a pm.
3. Just come home from a rehursal and half way through the last song we were going to play, the bass drops out... The tweeter is still making noise but the woofer is doing bugger all. Tried my head through my lil'1x10 cab and its working fine so definately the cab. Took it apart - the crossover looks fine. Nothing has popped/come loose etc, and all the connections are solid to both the tweeter and woofer. I assume that the crossover in the GS112 is a high pass filter only, rather than there being a low pass for the woofer as well, so I suppose the woofer voice coils have packed in. I was driving it at about half volume and just over half gain with my LMII and playing my Stingray with no pedals or anything in line. Is this most likely just a component failure on the cab and a warrenty claim, or could I have broken it? Anyone had dealings with Aguilar re: warrenty before? Cheers chaps/chapettes Karl
4.
During a period of recession, to willfully take a chainsaw to a £500 speaker cabinet that a lot of players would sell their grannies for almost staggers the imagination!
Yeah... probaly cost about £20 quid to make and was most likely a bit of a naff one. It puts me in the mind of the "Does it blend?" videos where the dude blends the iPhones and stuff. Man I want one of those blenders... Whats the country they were doing that in then? I guess you'd just need to play a note with a frequency that matches their national grid frequency - so 50Hz here, 60Hz in the USA - to drive the chainsaw at its "best". LOL.
5. I take it that these are GS212's? Are you prepared to split them?
6. Crap me I want the Tobias!
7. For 600 quid mate, you're looking at being able to get a really nice bass on the second hand market. If its a Jazz you're after, then a used USA Jazz should be in reach for that money. I'd say have a look at the Sandbergs though too. There are (were?) a couple on here, and with Musicman and Jazz style pickups in some of them, youre getting a lot of bass for your money...
8. I want!
9. Niiice. My mates got the 'lecy geetar version me thinks... Electromatic Pro Jet or summit like that (although think he's selling it). Lovely looking thing.
10.
I've heard of him, he's certainly famous amongst fans of doom/sludge/drone music. There was a discussion on talkbass where someone wanted to tune down to C to match the guitarists in his metal band. Most people just replied "duh, get a 5 string or string your bass BEAD", but since a lot off riffs require playing up on the neck while bouncing off the open strong pedal notes, I suggested he go 5-string or BEAD and use a capo at the 1st fret if necessary. I want to get one myself but I had a look online and found 50 types of capo and I'm not sure which ones would fit on a chunky bass neck!
I use a Dunlop "Curved Trigger Capo", which is for acoustic guitars, but it fits perfectly on my P-Bass, my acoustic basses, and on my 5 string (tuned EADGC though, so hasn't got a massive B to contend with). Works on the 4's up to about th 9th fret. I have a Kyser one too that I use on my acoustics but its a bit stiff still and tends to ruin tuning when used on a bass.
11. I've seen the Mars Voltas Juan Alderete using a capo too - can't remember the song. I don't see what the issue is. I use one often with my acoustic indy/folk band as it allows me to use droning strings and some nice chords - I tend to use a lot of chords with this band so a capo really helps unlock possibilities when writing bass lines. IMO, every bassist should try one. You never know, might open a whole bunch of techniques to you. That is of course at the risk of being "gay"...
12. HA! £35. Seller must be well chuffed.
13.
Do you often want to punch him too? He has one of those faces!
Haha. Can't say I've had the urge...
14. She's not a very useful cat. Can't mouse, can't meow propperly... I don't think I'd get much.
15. I have an acoustic bass to the value of about £200... but no cash for the rest
16. I'm sorry but I dont really know what the Spirit is. Is it the headless jobby with a bass on top and a elec on bottom? And are you talking about having both necks replaced or only the one? I understand that steinburgers have wooden fingerboards? I'm asking becasue i dont reckon a headless carbon fiber neck with a wooden fingerboard wouldnt be THAT hard to make if you had the originals to work from. Not cheap though as a decent mould (or pair of moulds) would have to be done in tooling board, and the lay done wet and baked in an autoclave... and im honestly not sure what would be going on INSIDE the neck... so maybe it would be a bit tricky... but it is an option if youre really serious about it i guess. probably majorly expensive though. With a wooden bolt on headless neck to be made for you though, i cant imagine it costing very much at all.
17. I was thinging in terms of like my old soul/rnb band. we're looking to reforming in 2010 and i was wondering if it'd be worth experementing with the Musicman mutes. I could imagine a song with a verse like Soul Man's being thudded along...
18. I was reading through The Burpster's thread and about to add a little comment on the bottom and found it had been locked. Mmmm.... Well what I was going to ask was, has anyone any examples of recordings (meaning records put out by artists, famous tracks etc) where bass mutes like the ones mentioned in The Burpster's thread have been used? It's just I'm a little curious as to how the tone would sit in the mix. I have a '95 Stingray, and at this point they had stopped fitting the basses with mutes from factory and instead the holes were filled by capscrews and the mutes availiable for purchase seperately. Apparently becasue people where injuring themselves on them? Don't know how true that is... But I would be interested in finding a set and trying them if the musical application would suit one of the genres of music I play. Karl
19.
I'm sorely tempted by this, a proper Warwick without the annoying two piece bridge that I can't replace. I'm just unsure about the pine though, I'll do a bit of research and see how they sound. Are any other basses made from the same stuff?
Its a very different wood to what you would associate as pine... I would liken it more to 'softer hardwoods' such as popular/tulip wood. I personaly wouldn't be put off by the body wood at this asking price - especially with that neck! A good buy for someone I reckon.
20. +1 on the Stingray
21. Just spotted this on the 'bay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1970s-Fender-Jazz-Ba...=item3efb595b11 fantastic.
22. Lets have another go bump.
23. Not sure if this has been mentioned already (I skimmed through some of the posts) but.... Strings. You need double ball end strings really if you want it all nice and tidy. If your favorite srings are not availiable as double ball end jobbys then you'll have to use the retaining grub screws in the string retainer (I know status/abm hardware has this option, not sure about other makes) - not pretty. But works. Just something to consider.
24. Jenkinson is one of my favorite players without a doubt. I absoloutly love his album Music Has Rotted One Note. That Culture Show clip is defo worth a watch on YouTube.
