Yeah it seems everybody's Boss switches work fine except the ones I end up with - which is why I always ask now.
Yep, my OC2 needs to be jumped up and down on, so does my metal zone and so does my guitards little orange boss distortion pedal. grrrrrrrrrr.
Karl Your sig says "Aguilar GS112 - IT'S HERE! AT LAST! AND I LOVE IT!", obviously you should try before you buy, but it's my opinon you should get another one and love them even more! Gigged again last night and didn't let me down. It's a pity you don't live closer, you could've popped along to a gig or rehearsal of mine and checked out my rig. However, one of my bands is based in Leicester and rehearses just off the M69\M1 junction if that helps, although I won't be rehearsing again until I return from the US at the end of May.
Oh yeah I do love my GS112 a hell of a lot. I needed a cab despirately when I ordered it becuase I had just offloaded my Markbass 103 combo part ex with a LMII and had no cab and two band in the loom... So I ordered the cab that the most LMII players on here seemed to use lol. And to be honest, I have been VERY VERY lucky becuse my tone is now almost exactly how I've wanted it for years - just lacking a bit of bottom end. So I think I'm going to go for another GS112 - most likely an GS112NT.

Like it says I have a Markbass LMII and a Augilar GS112 (which I have only had a couple of weeks). In practices with a loud drummer and a not very loud guitarfairy, my little cab is being driven to its limits, and altough I am getting a very clear and articulate sound, it lacks bottom end sufficient to fill the air. However, at a pub gig on Thursday I used my little rig and it was just loud enough, with room to spare should I need - so the rig has its uses, but I need to be able to add something to give me some extra booty. The obvious path is to add another GS112 or GS112NT, but will I get the extra bottom end I'm after? They are 8 Ohm cabs so I'd end up with a 4 Ohm load and extra headroom I guess so that would be good. But will I just get the same sound but louder? Or will it be a case that I now have loads more of Bass, Mid and Trebble, so to get the percieved increase in Bass compared to the single 112 cab do I turn down the Mid and Trebble? Other option, get a 2x12 or 4x10 cab, 4 Ohm and use that instead, and use my GS112 for quieter things? In which case I'd want to buy used, and have seen a EBS Neo 2x12 on here that I fancy... Any suggestions?

I have been playing acoustic gigs with a mate of mine for over a year now, I play bass, he sings and plays guitar. Well a couple of months ago we added a drummer and have gone electric (still keeping the acoustic two piece going too) which is great fun, as until then I had only realy been playing electric at home. Anyway, last week I started singing backing vocals (things like REM, the Jam) and the guys said that they liked my voice, and I should do some tracks on lead vocals. I sing a fair bit at home, usualy while playing acoustic guitar, but I have noone to critisise me and say if its any good etc, and I'm crapping myself with the thought of going on stage and singing like someone who thinks he can sing... So what can I do to practice? I can't record myself, as I can't afford a mic. My singing voice is fairly high, and to be honest, I usualy have to sing songs by female artists for my range (dont laugh). The one they want me to do for fridays practice is "promises" by the cranberries - and im struggling to reach some notes unless i take the song down a semitone, but i dont like doing that - is it possible to extend your vocal range through practice? i really do know NOTHING about singing, so help and suggestions would be greatly apreciated. cheers
I've just bought these Neutrik ones from Studiospares: [url="http://www.studiospares.com/bin/venda?ex=co_wizr-locayta&template=wz_locayta&pageno=1&perpage=10&collate=pdxtleadtype%3Apdxtplug1%3Apdxtplug2%3Apdxtlength%3Apdxtcolour%3Aivtype%3Aprice%3Acat%3Abrand%3Apdxtpowerrating%3Apdxtimpedance%3Apdxtbacktype%3Apdxtheight%3Apdxtinputs%3Apdxtoutputs%3Apdxtinternalmic%3Apdxtrecordingmedium%3Apdxtscardtype%3Apdxtscardmidiio%3Apdxtscardinputs%3Apdxtscardoutputs&fieldrtype=type&termtextrtype=invt&typertype=exact&typekeywordsearch=keyword&termtextkeywordsearch=nYS237&searchsubmit.x=0&searchsubmit.y=0"]http://www.studiospares.com/bin/venda?ex=c...earchsubmit.y=0
how cheap!??! cheers dude

yeah i have a headrush that i use for my acoustic guitar. its a very cool pedal, east to use and the delay is good on it too. although i do kinda want to do some reverse things that i have been working out, which the headrush cant do... so i would actually like to swap it for the line 6.

Jim Dunlop 105Q Wha (wah?) waaaaaaa pedal is being hissy and buzzy. Whhhhhyy? Also, does anyone know where i can get them cool little pedal links? you know what i mean, where you can go from the out of one pedal to the in of another with a solid little jack to jack thing so you dont need like a 5 inch patch cable? chars karl
Ive not yet laquered / varnished my maple board yet - its had the strings on and off for a coupla weeks, and Ive noticed the maple already getting grubbier just from finger grunge. The dirt seems to be right in the pores of the wood, so I dont know how I can clean it. All the rosewood basses Ive owned have always ended up with loads of grime on the fingerboard, but it just doesnt show on the darker wood, and it does just wipe off, maybe because rosewood is oily.
wire wool with some lem oil would probably clean the fretboard quite deeply. pain in the arse though. i have no idead what im going to do to the board as a permanent coat. im going to go see a chap next weekend to set up my p bass, but he's going to teach me how to do fret dressing which is cool. i'll ask him what to do as he builds LOADS of guitars.

Repairing a BassLines active pickup
karlthebassist replied to karlthebassist's topic in Repairs and Technical
i guess i was being a bit impatient, but also eger to have a go! SD emailed me back today and they are going to check the pickup out. only hear this after ive brought anotherP/J set of a basschatter though! oh well, you can never have too many pickups i guess. was kind of looking forward to ripping it open though -
Man they are sweet. I love Fender like crazy - pains me that I only have one and its a Mex! I really dig the Bass VI - Aren't they tuned EADGBE? Din't realise that there was a Jap version of them. Seen a vid of Placebo's bassist using one. (Stefan O....something - have his autograph on my wall but cant for the life of me read it!) Also that ASAT is ace. I love them things - have wanted one for like 4 years! Just sweet.

Jazz necked Single soapbar p bass shape thing.
karlthebassist replied to karlthebassist's topic in Build Diaries
Im in and out of the garage paining and sanding. Guess what I forgot to do............. ................grain filler! Oh its made it such hard work to get a smooth primer coat down. Have nearly got it spot on now. Just going to get some lasinol - polyester filler paint stuff - from work tomorrow which should do the job nicely before I start on the colour coats. What a tit though. I knew I'd forgotten to do it about five minutes into painting on the first coat. Oh well, I won't be doing that again... -
Yeah, that's a job still to do. I did a quick job on them after filing the fret ends using steel wool. Still needs a bit of fine tuning on the set up, so plan to polish them then. Anyone suggest the best thing to treat the ebony board? Heard that lemon oil is the stuff, but also heard that it isn't the stuff! And while I'm on, the chip I mysteriously put in (couldn't have been more careful), which you can see if you zoom in on the body shot near the control cavity. It looks like a black speck, so it's gone through the colour, any way I could use some kind of colour fill or something to repair it. I know it's gonna get it's dings, but not bloody yet! Pee's me off to know it's there cos the rest of it looks so pristine. Thanks for all your nice comments, chaps!
if the paint job is only 12 thou thick like you say it is, youre gonna be getting it looking pretty worn pretty quick. that does sound thin. the paint job on my fender p is around 30 thou and doesnt fend off dints to well... you could get a car touch up pen from halfords, but i think you'd just end up with a blotchy bass after a few dozen dinks. bass looks really really cool anyway btw - im currently poping in and out of the garage at the moment painting my homebuild body with primer. takes days and days.

Hey chaps/chapettes Soooooooo..... Got an active P/J Seymour Duncan APJ-1 pickup set, and the bridge position Jazz pickup doesnt work properly. I brought the set years ago and only got round to installing the J pup last monday - and it didnt work. I assume that the pup is made with two coils, one for the E and A strings, the other for the D and G. The D/G side doesn't work at all. I've emailed seymour duncan, but as of yet no reply. I'm going to email them again in a bit. I have brought another set of these pups from a basschatter, unused for a good price and they should be arriving shortly. So I'll end up with a spare P pup, but I can use that for my rockbass project ive started... So im thinking, if i dont get a replacement/repair from s/duncan, I might have a go at repairing the pickup.... Now then. This might be a very stupid idea. its completely enclosed in resin and i have NO idea what it will look like inside. i assume that the pre amp is tagged on underneath the colis and would be just underneath the resin. does anyone have any idea how i could safely(ish) get the pup to bits? im good with fiddly stuff and im not a novice when it comes to electronics - have build preamps and such in the past. any suggestions would be greatly apreciated. cheers karl
One of the new Exotic Wood acoustic basses- cos they look really nice. I don't really dig their electric basses much tbh. edited for link
I have one of those acoutics. Looooooverly sounding thing, lovely to play. The build isnt great thought. The soundhole isnt even perfectly round on mine! But it does sounds nice. Gigged it a lot. Takes AA batteries though! Have you ever heard such a crazy thing! But I would sell my left nut for a SR1000EFM NTF should the Ibanez Fairy Godmother not bring me one. SR500 are awesome though. I may get an SR506 to replace the SR406 that I once had and loved, but traded for my trusty P Bass

Jazz necked Single soapbar p bass shape thing.
+1 that forarm contours very sharp, though.
thanks for the comments guys! Im going to start to paint it tomorrow. See what you mean about the forarm contour, but i assure you the angle is the same as my mex p bass, the blend radius is sharper though, giving the impression that the angle breaks back hard, but i have had it strung up and played it like this, and it is perfectly comfortable. im usign a tighter rad all over than on modern p basses to give more of a "slab" p bass look. my fender has 3/8" - 1/2" rad all round, this has aprox 1/8".
