You could get Chris’s free stand (very generous), and fit one of these (the stand has a 35mm flange so this should fit) https://pipedreamfittings.com/product/4-way-cross-with-central-tube-34mm-b34/ Then you could fit some lightweight aluminium pipe and bend it it to the dimensions of your bass, cover is in insulation and cap the ends and you’re done. Even with the pipe bender it would still cost you about £30 https://siliconehoseuk.co.uk/products/alloy-one-metre-straight-pipe?variant=42844606496999¤cy=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=CjwKCAiAvdCrBhBREiwAX6-6UtzyRuen5fACRqy8aRr43dZK5aVoH0vVfrqX_1WtEwSYuVeAcci0ARoCliIQAvD_BwE

I really hate this, and have experienced it before. I’m in one band and we all sat down at the start and agreed it was a priority for us to work together and get stuff right. They accept I’m the only one with kids, but they push me to get out and get on with stuff, which I really like. Some people, it seems to me, love the idea of a band but struggle with the reality and commitment - which can lead to stress and frustration among the others.

I use Barefaced cabs and they’re great for volume with my magnetic pickup but I don’t find they pick up on the subtleties of the acoustic bass. I know a fair few bass players now use a preamp into an FRFR speaker. These are designed not to colour the sound, but can provide the “heft” you want. I’m no expert (on anything) but I’m sure someone on here can provide some ideas on appropriate speakers for DB.

…and it will be awesome! Good luck. If there’s any string I’d be happy to break, it would be the G.

Had a chat with these guys today and they have some great stuff. Mostly guitar, but this Precision looks like a beauty. No price listed on the website but from conversations it’ll be a similar price to that auction. https://mas-vintage.co.uk/items/fender-usa-precision-bass-whc-1975/

About £2930 (give or take a bit). It's a shame it doesn't have the covers, but a reasonable price nonetheless.

All joking aside, I’ve found the Hal Leonard series of books are excellent. The Rock Guitar and Acoustic Guitar versions come with downloadable audio and use real tracks and riffs, so he’ll be playing his favourite songs soon enough. While you can buy a songbook, it makes no sense as Songsterr has arrangements of pretty much everything and it’s free. (I pay £10 per month but that’s only so I can download and print them). Finally, it’s probably worth getting a few lessons (or it could end up like this)

Only got one left and I’ve just seen this. Was expecting a PM. Will message you Boomer!

Apologies for derailing the thread. This is something I never wanted to see or imagine.

I’m selling an Ibanez Gio at the moment and the bass is absolutely fantastic. I’m going to use it for one of my bands. My first bass was an Aria Pro Cat Bass and I loved it. (If anyone has one let me know!)

Tony Blair was a guitarist. I’m not sure musicians should be anywhere near being in charge!

I have a custom colour 60s jazz bass and I haven’t played it in a year or more. But sad really, but I can’t sell it.

That sounds like a manufacturing defect. I’d return for a full refund.

This isn’t the case here. The price you pay at the till is the online price. I have no shares in PMT but the label makes it clear this is what happens.

It’s good. The staff are (by and large) positive and friendly and the store is well managed. They were helping a young woman select a parlour guitar when I was there. They also have used guitars too (including a couple of lovely Stingrays!)

Often the deep damage to Fretless boards isn’t caused by playing, but by the strings being pushed against the board while basses are in transit or are dropped, fall off stands, etc. Any wear to an ebony board can easily be repaired.

Free. Will stick in the post. The back has a really cool picture of 1970s Fender basses! You can only have one.
