Be cheaper and you’ll get excited while you wait!
These basses are so so so bad. They're the cheapest basses Fender produced at the worst time for production. Whether it's in Africa or next door, it's junk.
I’d be embarrassed at having people over who might see it. I have to say, when I clicked to open the thread I thought this was a joke at someone’s expense.
Personally I’d have it refinished!
People are talking up the “Dan Smith era” Fenders, and some of the early 80s stuff is appearing in some vintage shops. Objectively speaking, the stuff from about 1975 onwards is pretty appalling.
Tried a 1975 jazz that weighed 5.2kg. Insane.
I think I used this one. I added a couple of fabric washers between the adjustable bit that sticks in the back of the bass.
Im sure you can get these cheaper second hand to give it a try.

Typically they’d have a matching serial number sticker on the scratch plate.
Ask about the history and consider whether there’s much point faking a bass like this (there isn’t).
Lastly, at this age they’re usually about 5kg - so see how much it weighs!
I work as a writer and as a musician on the side. Precarious doesn’t really cover it.
Guess we have to find something to do that machines can’t replicate!
I bought a bass from BD. Turned out not to be what I wanted. My return was acknowledged within the hour, bass picked up the next day and a full refund soon after.
Exceptional service.
