1. I know he's been busy.... he played on some of the tracks on Kate Bush's last album 'Ariel' I believe he moved back up to scotland a few years back from Surrey. Last time I spoke with Mike at Iceni he had been in touch with him
 2. If you can stretch to an Akai SB-1 (Deep Impact) I highly recommend one. I have two that I use and for that era there is not much else out there that does it better. I've had a play with the Markbass unit which is quite good though not quite as analogue sounding as the Akai to my ears. I'd steer clear of the Digitech unit as it's fairly limited to what it can do. You could also try combining pedals. A good distortion unit with an OC-2 can obtain some wonderful synth effects.
 3.
The PRS seems to often get the two finger salute, like the tax man! At work we were quoted some outrageous PRS licensing price, all to be able to use radios to listen to music in the work place. The radios were quickly removed and that was another buget slashed!
While I was demonstrating some Audio equipment at PLASA this year, the company I was working for was charged £43.00 per day for the entire show for playing a track from an Alanis Morissette album. They had a PRS license but it did not cover them off of their premises. I watched the guy go round each exhibitor and issue various fines over a period of four days.

 5.
While we're on the subject of 'unsung heroes' of the low end I've recently developed uber-love for John Giblin's fretless playing on Fish's first solo album "Vigil in a wilderness of mirrors". I did some digging around, and it turns out that he's quite the session player.
Gibbo has played on countless recordings..... and was until a few years back, resident bassist at Abbey Rd.... very kool dude!

Anyone who has played a 1980's S2 with the proper graphite "paddle" through neck will be able to attest to how they feel, sound and look better than the new ones.
Utter Bollocks mate!

 13.
I don't like to use light gauge strings for thumping. I'll usually stick to .45-.105,maybe go to .40 but that's rare. I also don't scoop the mids like a lot of players do. I keep the same EQ as I do for fingerstyle and rely on my technique more.
I agree alot with this..... I really don't see the benefit of scooping the EQ for slap.... you lose too much of the 'whump' from the tone. I think this is a mistake a lot of people make, they scoop the f*** out of the eq section and then wonder why it gets lost in FOH mix. A lot of people slate Mark King for this but if you actually look at his EQ settings (Graphic) you see a lot of the mids are actually boosted and it's the very upper mids that get cut. Also I would agree with what Doddy says about learning to slap across all of the strings. A lot of players only slap the E & A. Slapping the D,G is harder to get a decent sound out of but it's just practice.

 15. I've noticed that the left cheek on my right hand tends to mute for me.....other than that it varies.... index finger on left hand also handles a lot of muting

 21.
I also find it quite funny that a very common British trait is clearly evidenced on BC in her rise to fame. About a year or so ago, when a respected BCer posts her sister's first music video, and a thread about her being in NME, all the comments in those threads were were kind and positive. She was realively unknown. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=58079&hl http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=64426&hl Now she is quite famous and in the papers and the magazines, it seems people think it's acceptable for them to say unkind things about her. So bloody British, eh? God help us if any BCers make the big time.
It's always the same on this bloody forum...... anything popular is utter sh*te.....
 22.
This is a very good post, why rip someone to pieces just because your not a fan or dont like their style?
You must be new here........
