  1. I presumed that it was simply cheaper for them to offer a lined one only. Unfortunately for me, I find the lines a bit confusing and the side dots in the wrong place; the first bass I had was an unlined fretless and I've got used to that. Good choices. ;-) I should perhaps add that I don't much fancy playing fretted basses but would buy a '51 P reissue for the Monk Montgomery connection: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/17494060.2015.1085888
  2. This probably doesn't count, but I suspect that there might be a few people who'd like to buy a standard Fender/Squier Jazz/Precision with an unlined fretless board. I'd have bought one years ago and put and end to GAS before I wasted too much money.
  3. ...and sold!
  4. Thanks! Does indeed sound as if it's not great value for the price, although your work has obviously been effective.
  5. Is this the one? If so I'd be interested to know your thoughts on the instrument, particularly unmodified. The tone sounds good to me, thanks for posting it!
  6. On hold pending sorting out postage.
  7. I saw this thread title and hoped that it might contain some particularly hardcore intonation exercises. Still, vulgar French songs are quite entertaining instead.
  8. That's a bit of a nuisance. Luckily I was able to bag what I think was the last WD Music jazz body on the shelf, which I intend to employ in exactly that manner.
  9. With a bit of cash in hand from a bass sale I went for this one (Marcus Miller CMD 101). Great tone with no EQ applied and completely clean with the gain on full. It's also light and small and probably loud enough for the sort of gigs I used to do and would like to do again.
  10. Less than a year old, home use. I have the original paperwork and and a box that would fit and so could perhaps post if required, though that would be extra and I'd probably have to use Parcelforce.
  11. Meet me at a mutually convenient time, hand over £100 in cash, and it's yours! Indeed, Ebay sucks. I've had trouble with both buyers and sellers, and try to avoid it if I can.
  12. DuckDuckGo is a pretty good replacement these days; I rarely need to try a Google search. Anyway, step 3 of that particular guide can't be completed as the only formats on offer from the advanced tool are "auction" and "fixed price".
  13. Probably, but it is an amusing thought. Their support people did get back to me to claim that there's a "classified ad" option that allows cash on collection, but I'm damned if I can find where they've hidden it.
  14. Found some more photos:
  15. Not only are the users often time-wasters, but so are Ebay themselves. After spending 20 minutes preparing a listing, they refuse to list it as I won't accept Paypal for something that really needs to be cash on collection.
  16. It doesn't necessarily have to be Markbass, though there are reasons to favour them as mentioned above. A 100w Rumble is very tempting for the weight though in another thread there were comments about them not being very loud. The 200 might be worth a try but seems to be very slightly too heavy/bulky, from the description. This looks interesting also: https://www.thomann.de/gb/tc_electronic_bg250_208.htm Anyway, when/if my other gear sells I'll need to try some out.
  17. Sounds like the CMD 121 would do the job, though it's somewhat expensive. I'll have to try one if/when funds are available.
  18. It is indeed mine. I thought I'd ask them to do a commission sale to save me the hassle.
  19. Presumably it's a bit bulkier, also? Even the ~27kg is a bit much for the stairs I have to negotiate. Something no more than 12-14 would be ideal for me. Luckily, I don't need to be particularly loud, and this BLX has always been sufficient for volume (even here).
  20. Would Soma FM have anything of interest?
  21. This example of a well-known combo (purchased in August 1994 from ABC Music in Oxford) is in working order with all white slider caps present; the only issues are that the covering is a bit tired and scuffed in places (it's been gigged a lot) and there's a bit of a hum and so it could probably do with a service. I've based the price on similar examples sold here. Collection only, as it weighs 27kg or thereabouts. The weight is the reason I am selling it.
  22. From what I've heard the quality is good and I thought they might produce the sort of sound I'm after. The size/weight seems to be good as well and, silly as it may be, I like the look of the orange speakers. Another possibility is a Fender Rumble if it turns out that none of the above are suitable.
  23. Thanks - very useful information! The suggestion that the sound might be a bit woolly suggests that I ought to try one out to check; I have noticed exactly that problem with the BLX and my current favourite bass.
