  1. Obviously somewhere in the world is a factory churning false strings out for whichever brand they can copy..... and as an aside, Shure mics are the most ‘faked’ mics out there. I was told by Shure UK a few years ago that Shure continually find and get the Chinese authorities to close down these fake factory sites.
  2. The fake ones I bought had the correct colour ball ends but put next to a legit D'Addario set the shade of each ball end colour of the fake set was easily seen to be different from the D’Addario set.
  3. Yes as Norris says, check all cables first, check internal wires of the cab are intact too as they can on some internal connectors work loose and maybe touch other terminals or actually come away.
  4. Open the cardboard pack. Inside the sealed strings have a serial number on the packet that cross references online with D’Addario,s website. Go to the website and search for ‘Play Real’ where you are asked for your email address and the next page will ask for the serial number which is checked and immediately tells you if they are fake or ‘Real’. I ve been sold fake strings before, their volume was way down on a ‘real’ set. The package colouring was slightly off and the ball end colours were slightly off too.
  5. Latest on the Ray Ross Bridges with price: https://rayrossbridge.com/products/ray-ross-saddle-less-bass-bridge?variant=16065324253274
  6. Try a couple of wedges under the top cab ? The MarkBass wedge may be too much so a couple of door wedges maybe just to direct the sound up a bit towards the ears.
  7. Going to see Canadian singer/guitarist-slide/songwriter Joey Landreth at The Boileroom in Guildford....touring small UK venues in April. He is 'rated' by people like Bonnie Raitt to John Hiatt etc. This guy knows his way around his guitar. I saw him at a fantastic gig in The Railway in Winchester a few years ago with his brother in their Bros Landreth band and have to say I was knocked out. I've sadly missed out on tickets for The Tedeschi Trucks Band at the London Palladium in April.
  8. bad news indeed....lets hope the culprits are caught out.
  9. Excellent bass, loud too, well put together, only problem for me was a slightly wide P bass neck for me but a great colour too in daylight.
  10. I think they do pretty long shows but maybe call the Palladium as there may be an absolute ‘curfew’ time for the show to finish by. Theatres often do have curfews, sometimes to do with getting the staff away by a certain time/midnight re: overtime payments etc. Travel wise....check out tube or London overground train times with the possibility of drive and park up in a suburb? Or get an advance Travelodge booking with free parking...there is a Travelodge right next to Teddington BR station SW London which is on the loop line to Waterloo station.
  11. http://www.bass-guitar-info.com/SpeakerWiring.html another bit of info.
  12. Stewmac USA post up stuff about guitar build/repair and parts....here is a recent one about their own neck shims....gives a good idea of how it can all work. https://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Trade_Secrets/How_to_shim_a_guitar_neck_so_the_strings_dont_hit_the_frets.html?lac_guid=1328a8a6-b620-e911-80e4-ecb1d775572a&utm_campaign=TS0323&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_content=TS0323_C_20190126
  13. At the start of the read up I was about to say always check cables but you have and I presume also each individual stand alone pedal with the power supply (I don't know this particular one,) so can it be the power supply, could you borrow another one? I would be surprised if the MXR was the problem, analogue or not but then again....?
  14. Top man fluffo.....great to dealing him .... in a gas station forecourt of course! MarkBass cab collected bang on time around the M25/M20 saving us both heaps of extra driving and time. Cheers.
  15. Matt, I doubt you will be able to find these books easily. There are three, written by Raymond Elgar in the days of black and white, the 1960’s. I think there was a reprint done in the USA a few years ago of the three books. They are fascinating. They are called “Introduction ToThe Double Bass”....”More About The Double Bass”....”Looking At The Double Bass”. There are mistakes in them about certain basses and you will find online comments about this. Some professional players have said they knew the bass in a certain picture and that Elgar had not got the maker correct for that particular bass etc etc. Current online prices vary greatly for a single book from £150-350....
  16. Why not call the number?
  17. More illegal copying from China then.?....I was in contact with Shure Microphones about the SM58 mic a few years ago...(I had unwittingly purchased a fake but got my money back) and they told me the SM58 was the most 'copied' mic out there and that Shure had regularly contacted Chinese authorities to raid factories and shut them down.
  18. This is out of my DB history book with an explanation of sorts in the lower paragraph. It was good to see this post with the 'modern' version.
  19. ...and here is the easier to play version
  20. And with the bass...what about that bow!!
  21. Take a single edge razor blade, (the ones with a grip spine on the other edge),, lightly push it / tap it against what appears to be the raised edge of the offending fret....if you feel resistance against the blade edge then yes, it’s a raised ‘fret’ . Try scraping it down with the blade, minimum damage to the f board surface may occur. I don’t know how ebonal works, that is if finely sanded what surface coating does it take as in oil, varnish? The overall best solution is to have the fboard sanding flat again and re-coated. Im a fretless player but have never used a lined fretless. Working off double bass honed my listening skills for tuning on fretless bass guitar. Playing a bass after double bass feels much easier!
  22. The ‘Esher Demos’ CD from the set is an interesting reference too.
  23. Welcome to the far side....of the world....I have family in Bay Of Plenty and friends all over NZ having been brought up there years ago.
  24. Book a bought off Mickyboro and in a 'slight return' he then bought a bass off me! Top man and easy going dealings, nice one, cheers Mike.
  25. This popped up......I don't know anything about this company but application of their device can be used for tinnitus. https://www.parasym.co/tVNS-deactivates-tinnitus-brain-regions.html
