  1. I resemble that remark.
  2. I suspect this is a redundant post, butbI bought something from Jack and it was all good. No one is surprised.
  3. Getting then in line IS tuning, no?
  4. Nice to see a properly tuned bass.
  5. Back in the days I actually made money playing, I got insurance through the MU.
  6. The balance is tricky, no? I have one but never play it because it does not have enough strings. Can I bring myself to sell it? Can I heck!
  7. Luscious. May I suggest 2 bottom strap buttons so that you can lean it against something and it does not tip over? I cannot count how many times I have put my Tele down in the house and loved that aspect of it.
  8. The best guitar stand is a nice big speaker cab where you can rest your P bass, with 2 equidistant strap buttons on the base, against it. But that is pretty niche.
  9. It is a K+M. It will work. But that picture makes it super attractive.
  10. I went over to in ears in Church yesterday morning. All the singers were astonished and loved it. Super frustrating that yours is intransigent. I also took my new Eich Bass Board. Deep, deep joy.
  11. Does your singer provide the mic and the wedges?
  12. If you listen to Jamerson's stuff isolated, it is not always pretty. We are, by now, used to playing to the grid. I have recently put a track together using a prerecorded drum track. It is very odd. The drum track is played live and bubbles along very nicely. I played the rest of the instruments using the drum track as a guide. Soloed, the bass sounds horrific - what we "know" as timing is deeply offended by what I played. But along with the drums it is just fine and dandy.
  13. Seeing as we are discussing Mr Manton I shall tell you my Mr Manton story. I needed some extensive work done on a bass. He did it beautifully.
  14. Oh! Ouch. I had a case which damaged my bass. When my homemade carrying strap broke, my case did not protect my bass as it hit the stone steps. That was my own stupid fault. What happened to you and G4M reversing hard out of the situation is deeply uncool.
  15. I wish you the very best with that and sincerely hope it works for you. None of my responses are aimed at you, Mr Mandrel. I am hoping that casual readers would get a handle on the dangers and the clear strategies for negating that danger. From my own personal experience, I would not be taking the risk for the cost of 3 sets of strings (or less if you use TI Jazz Flats!). I am not telling anyone what to do with their lives. However the reality is that when it goes wrong suddenly all sorts of musical endeavours we take for granted, both listening and playing, are no longer possible. Hearing damage is progressive. Ironically mine tipped over into permanent tinnitus during a rehearsal with a harp. I can no longer play that subtle stuff that requires me to respond to subtle playing changes because I cannot risk further damage by playing unprotected. This is all totally avoidable.
  16. Anyone reading this needs to get proper moulded ones. Saving 100 quid to use plugs which are not guaranteed to seal is asking for trouble. Every one of us who has tinnitus/top end loss/hyperacusis (sp?)/something else would spend that 100 quid without blinking to make their hearing right. Most of us would spend 10 or 20 times that. But we cannot. Once the damage is done, it is game over. No one sits there listening to their ears whine/grumble/rumble or just not work and thinks "so glad I saved the cost of 3 sets of strings". Do it right first time. I am not pointing at anyone who is using anything else.
  17. Fender Tone Stack, no? Like an Alembic Preamp. But with rocket power bolted on.
  18. I bought a mixer from John. Everything was easy and this man packs beautifully.
  19. Wowzers! I do not play guitar in anger, and already have WAY too many. But that is proper funky!
  20. He made me a 35" 5 string neck in the late 80s, early 90s which pretty esoteric at the time. It has been through a couple of bodies but is still lush.
