The colours are good with that gloss coat. Warmer and less washed out.

Subtle? The white and orange combination is already less startling but to seek a subtle relicing is like hoping for a nice relaxing road traffic accident.

I enjoyed doing oil finishes on mine too. I'm crap with a brush or sprayer so it suits me well. -

Black and amber is a great combination. Good one. -
Do you know? I wondered if I ought to have checked whether Ashden was a girl's name. They've both got something in tribute in any case. Respect.

That bridge is a really nice touch. -
Cheers. I just saw the headless neck. From that angle it looked like you were tight for space and my mind could only fit a paddle into that image. "cheap synth-bass sound" - hahahahaha

It's also a darn good reason to follow your build topics. Your impressive pace has been mentioned but your flexibility is remarkable too. Good work. Great tribute to your boys too. They'll be proud of that no doubt.

Striking as it is, I'd have to say that it's not for me with my sight the way it is lately. I fully approve however. It's a scheme worth doing well.

Phew! I can just about imagine what JS is describing with the help of his sketch. I can't wait to see when he's refined and made it. -
Are you old enough to remember these words on TV: "Normal service will be resumed shortly"? Heeheehee. I'd go cross eyed looking at that for too long. What happened at the headstock?

Tidy. Looks like you had to be to get the whole band in. Is that a paddle bass?

So have I. £433 was the cheapest on a quick search and that was an RO125. Christine's RO150 is £508! I've not looked at the specs to see what the differences between the two are because I can't justify the expense of the entry level one let alone what Christine recommends. I might have to consider it however as I am getting a bit of interest locally for restored cast iron garden furniture. Shameless thread diversion concealed below: -

Not that it's my choice to make but I agree that the plain tops complement the burl top best. Do you have a position marker on them? (Thanks for the change of background) Andy, I'd go for a W shaped F hole and patent it PDQ. It looks like Norris is a little sensitive about his norrisole. Norris, I've now got a design for a hole shaped like a Cumberland sausage but I've got nowhere left to put the chuffing bridge! I hope you're happy with yourself. -

The difference having some strings makes is astonishing. It looked good before. Now it looks the business too. If one was to suggest an LED for this instrument I would conceal one and only one with a diffuser inside your norrisole to bring out the warm red tones of its backing veneer. I am looking forward to the Andyjr knob comparison post with anticipation. I think it's anticipation... that or I'm still immature enough to get a kick out of typing the word knob whilst imagining it being said by Rowan Atkinson. I found the flooring a distraction. It might be easier to compare knobs with a plain background for the bass itself. I like the ones in the images above well enough. Our Len's going to be spoilt for choice though with the poplar tops. Excellent. -
17/03/1964 a day of birth Precision bass build

Is the yellowing not from exposure to cigarette smoke over many years? I tend to believe that nicotine stains are largely responsible for that sort of discolouration. I'd have thought that most basses are kept out of bright and direct sunlight during storage. -
Welcome John. If you've not found it already, the Build Diaries should be of great interest. As owner of one of each of those basses you mention I am interested to see how you go on. I hope you post your build there.

I appreciate that you have taken the time to consider my position. I am sorry that you have taken offence at my reply. The problem is circular in nature. If I had space, I might consider getting a drum kit in. The intention would be to learn my way around a standard drum kit. If nothing else it would be possible for drummers to join in a spontaneous jam at my house. I haven't got the space so a syn drum kit would seem to be an answer. I agree that to learn in a way that would make the transition to a real kit less troublesome it would need to be set up, as you yourself suggested, to replicate the overall placement of a real kit thereby going right back to square one, which is to buy a full kit since the syn drum kit would need the same sort of space to set up. I am now considering avoiding all of the trappings of analogue drums altogether (drummers always seem grumpy anyway) and I have wondered whether to replace my TR606 with a rack mounted synthesiser controlled by one of these: Demo Vid When did I say that I did not want an answer? Have a nice week.

Semi Hollow Bass (and another two...)
SpondonBassed replied to Jabba_the_gut's topic in Build Diaries
So did I. I was a little disappointed when I realised it wasn't. -
Is this decorative too or does it come with rubber pellets for the 10cc section of your set?
-
Given that my reason for not dabbling is lack of space, I'll pass thanks. If I could find space between the basses, amps, guitars, ukes and the tuning fork to lay out a syn kit like a full sized drum kit, why wouldn't I just buy a drum kit?
-
I was more in mind of how I'd feel learning on the Roland then moving on to a real kit. Maybe I'm wrong but wouldn't it be like starting off again, not quite from scratch but not familiar with a full sized kit?
-
I've often wanted to invest some quality time in drumming but for the space it takes up with traditional kit. The alternative is a syndrum kit but I'd feel I was cheating. PS: Can I have your bass and rig Mister?
-
I doubt it would make a huge difference but I'd have wanted to see it off-set to the other side for the new low B. Are you keeping the four string P pup? I'm glad you kept the headstock natural. It's eye catching enough as is. Heeheehee
