I remember where I lived as a boy, near Ravenstone village in Bucks, there was a quarry nearby. You could just see the conveyors on the horizon from our house. There was a constant low level grinding noise from it. It's not possible to say for certain but I am sure that was louder than the background grind that I sometimes hear as an adult. Of course now, I live near the city of Derby and there is a lot of local industry that runs plant day and night.

I can verify that. I got a set of five with a tapered B for my Steinberger Spirit XT25 from Newtone. He looked at the bass and noted the bridge/saddle tolerances then did me a light/intermediate set of roundwounds.

Thanks. Everyone says that about the Nordies. My Ibby was a good buy at about half the retail price pre-owned and in very good nick. For the same reasons as yourself, I am not in the market for new ones at this time but who knows... I may yet become one of Marco's customers.

When I read your previous post I wanted to ask you whether you'd replace the 506's pickups with Nordstrands. I am assuming that the 506 has Bartolini Mk1s like my 605 of course. Don't get me wrong. I have no complaint with my own. I don't gig though. I have read a few things that suggest I should check out the Nordstrands however.

I think so. I'll message you about it. I heard lots of positive comment about last year's presentations. All three were good. I think it's a great focal point for the attendees too. It might be nice to get some sound bites for the podcast as well.

I did a late download of this. Great interview. The market place segment was more interesting than I thought it might be. Some interesting tips from Si on understanding Lakland model numbers. Bo's enthusiastic delivery, as always, is a joy to listen to. Cheers chaps.

Sorry Saved. I had my wires crossed when I quoted you prior to editing my post. As a matter of fact, what made me realise it wasn't you was that I remembered being impressed by the metalwork that you did for your build. It ain't pretty but it works. In some ways, it is nice to see that sort of work in contrast to the pretty stuff. If it was me, I'd keep your Navarone as it is and do another one with the improvements built in from scratch. With what you learned in this build it should go more quickly and smoothly (if you're lucky). The prototype should be preserved as it is for posterity. Sorry Jez, I'm getting a bit of a rep for thread diversions elsewhere so I'll cut it short.

It is. It's almost as decorative as a headstock! Those large grub screws are reassuring. The large size means a larger footprint, a larger Allen key and greater longevity. I'd still want to swap those for Torx screws but it means using a less common tool for string changes. Perhaps not a great advantage having close tolerance torxies if you've lost the key to them.

I'd like to see how you get on with the single retaining feature on the Nova. I have doubts about its stability but that is just a notion of my own.

Could be worse... it might have chaffinched its woodpecker or got pigeon-holed by a great big bustard. It's not a garden out there it's a jungle and we all know... Jungle is massive!
