1.
Just have a close look at the edges, especially where there is wear or damage. From the photos the front looks like the front might be carved from several pieces, the back looks like ply when zooming in on picture 3
you obviously know your stuff Mr Bassman! I will get more precise picture uploaded tomorrow
2.
If you don't come up with any specific details then I reckon you could expect to see up to £500 for an all-ply 3/4 in playable condition with no structural issues or buzzes. If it has a carved top it will be worth more. If it actually sounds nice it could be worth even more!
er.....interesting....but I know nothing about these things! carved top...? all-ply..? I think it needs to go my local guitar luthier to at least identify what it is made of. Until tomorrow - thanks
3. I am picking it up tomorrow, can't remember if it is flat or swelled...Will post comments tomorrow. TBH I want to sell it to buy an EUB... so would be good to get some kind of price on it thanks
4. it hasn't had much TLC, but no cracks/splits. any ideas what it is? as I say, "made in Hungary" is all I can see
5. So I have finally acquired a pre-loved acoustic upright which was presented to me by someone who received it from a late uncle. They know nothing about the make etc. All parts working, body marked but intact... Can't seem to find any reference to the make...all I can see inside the 'F' hole is a sticker saying "MADE IN HUNGARY" How can I identify anything else about it? help! Thanks
6. oh he was outstanding. But you have to remember, it was HIS style. to expect to replicate every little nuance...well......you are riding into Anorak country!
7. Female fronted North East band averaging 2-3 gigs per weekend are on the lookout for a bassist for 4 weeks July and possibly longer. Must be experienced with performance and reasonably fit. A wage to be earned..... pm me for more info Ta
8. So, 80 views and not even a single comment...ha! Well she sounded fantastic last night. oh, and so did the bass ;O)
9. I wouldn't risk thinking I had managed to fix it myself unless I have had experience of such things. I've just had a Les Paul headstock repaired. Well, actually the heel of the headstock. I nasty crack it was and the guy only charged £40 for the repair. If the 'split' looks like it is in danger of travelling you need to sort it asap.I would imagine any more knocks won't help, and who knows what the tension is doing, as pointed out by Doctor J. At least get quotes mate.
10. Monckeyman, sounds ike a normal band night if you ask me! I love how people who run these nights haven't got a f***** clue, or care, how much time and effort goes into putting on a show. Oh, and the agents fee. tell me about it. £$%^&!!!! Our night was going great until some drum stumbled into out PA and manage to knock the full-range mid (all 5.ft of it) off a bass bin and for it to land on his back. Luckily he was a very big lad, so broke it's fall without breaking his back. Thst's showbiz.
11. Well done whoever you are! Marlowe .....haha
12. E_D G snapped A string, so spare. That was some spot.
13. I'm off to Spain for a while soon so shifting some stuff. Including this lovely German made Warwick Corvette Standard. Bought it from a Basschat forum member and have to say it has a knock-out sound! I remember smiling uncontrollably the first time i gigged it. Great definition of notes with a meaty bottom end. Do I have to explain what you already know about these basses? Generally in great condition. Just a few minor dings (prob guitar stand) around the sides of the body. The neck is totally unmarked, as is the headstock. If the bass is still here when I get back from Spain it's no big deal, so.... I am keeping the price on the appetising side of £400...asking £390 + £25 P&P. Comes with quality padded Warwick gig bag, factory supplied Allen keys. pm me if you want more pics! 14. I did Delilah just so I could do the dance! Big fan of Alex. A great bunch of character misfits blended together
15. I haven't read all of the posts on this thread. I would say DON'T put rounds on your fretless. I did, had to have the fingerboard skimmed 3 timed because those little marks eventually become deeper and caused horrible buzzes, eventually, new fingerboard. You would have to have an incredibly light touch on your fingerboard to reduce the amount of time it would take to wear down your fingerboard, Unless, as someone else might have mentioned, you go the Jaco way and have your board coated with resin or whatever. halfwounds, flatwounds..but not roundwounds
16. By having made a previous 'too early' entry and learned from it.
17. "unable to identify it's playability" what does that mean? ????????????????
18. That headstock is causing someone's antique wardrobe to be lop-sided
19. Had it been left handed I would have had it, but I have a R/H playing upside down already.
20. So how are the acts chosen for LWJH??? There are often some gems (The Pierces for instancebeautiful misic, beautiful girls ) and some absolute stinkers ( Metallica and Lou Reed )
21.
Try listening to some of the fretless Wal playing on YT. Does that in any way lessen the quality of the instrument?
Nope!! Good call. I love Rickenbacker guitars, but tried a couple of the basses ans been massively unimpressed. But, I guess as a Wal player , it's horses for courses.
