1.
Why am I getting Warwick GAS again, I only bought one last week.
Because they're awesome and stupidly cheap, that's why!
2. I've experienced problems with every Behringer item i've used so i don't use em, i'm aware of people on here who've been gigging with their stuff for years though so YMMV. Our old guitarist bought a few of their pedals they failed one by one, you could pretty much guarantee that there'd be a problem with one at every gig until he ditched them deeming them not gig-worthy. Similarly we had 2 of their desks which both developed faults, didn't go near the brand again but i understand some of their higher end desks are excellent. It's cheap so there will be good and bad batches, i may have been very unlucky. Keep your receipt and you should be ok! As far as cables go i use obbm and homemade ones. Neutrik jacks/speakons and Van Damme (instrument) and Klotz (speaker) cables are all you'll need. There's loads of posh cables costing the earth but you really don't need to spend more than what obbm charges unless psychoacoustics are really important to you! If you can solder then it's very cheap to make pro quality leads, to the extent that some of the prices you see look farcical. If you can't then obbm will sort you out.
3.
Looking forward to having it explained to me how he identifies this body as an "Ibanez" Two days ago he didn't seem to have a scooby what it was.
One thing that bothered me it that he seems to be saying that BC members identified it as a genuine Ibanez: "After much deliberation and many comments and internet searching, I have finally ascertained the brand of this body. It's a mid 70's Ibanez P Bass. Thanks to Bass Chat members... Are all you Bass Heads this clued up?" So now it's a Basschat verified item? He's now also invented a mysterious friend who owned the bass since the early 80s and has suddenly remembered it's gigging history - amazing!
4. It's a trend, happens with every hobby/profession. There's always people who have to have the latest toy that comes out when the one they already have does the job just fine. My old fella works in a fishing shop and it's the same there - people sell all their year-old kit which is good as new for the "improved" model which is pretty much the same, just because it's new and they have to have it. Works out fine for the rest of us as the influx of gear on the used market means we have loads of second hand gear to choose from and prices are forced down. When i bought my LMII used there was one or two on here every week, i literally decided i wanted one and browsed the FS section for 2 minutes, a few days later i had a nearly new amp for a fraction of the new price.
5.
Nah. He's too shy shy... I'll get me coat...
Oh FFS!.......
6. I must remember to namecheck several unconnected luthiers next time i try to sell a bass. If anybody wants to buy a Sue "cough Shuker cough" Ryder RP1 bass in navy "cough ACG cough" blue for only five times what it's "cough Zoot cough" worth then throw me a PM! Also, when there's so much obvious BS in a listing is it still wrong to put in annoying offers? I have an urge to offer him £14.74 purely because of the fact he's trying to mug someone with a dud bass.
7. I'm intrigued to see what the dark blue one looks like with a black PG, was thinking about getting one last night but i don't wanna spend any money on it tbh, mine is going to remain a £60 bass! I've even kept the stock strings on which on mine were pretty decent sounding. I suspect mine is a return as the bridge was misaligned so it may have better strings on it. Did some work on mine last night, moved the bridge to the correct place and back a bit (so the saddles aren't right back), it can now be re-drilled for through body stringing but again i don't think i'll bother. It's probably going to live in a cupboard at work for lunch time learning so not much point. Same story with the badly cut nut, prob gonna be like that in 10 years time if the neck holds out!
8. Markbass must have sold many more units than the other micro-head manufacturers so it stands to reason that there will be a few knocking around the FS section - the LMII in particular must have shifted a fair bit. Also people might be flogging MB gear to buy the new MB gear! I remember when the LMIII came out there was a sudden influx of used LMII amps for sale.
9. Yeah on mine the front is quite a solid blue from a few feet away, the back is beautiful though! That along with the neck/fingerboard woods makes me thing they built this bass back to front!
10. Yeah i noticed that one. Could be they had a few which weren't glued properly and came apart when tuned up to tension. Doesn't look like a break, i may be wrong but it does look like a simple enough repair. The classicals they had all suffered from the same neck problem which led me to believe they stick faulty batches on eBay, however they also put courier-damaged stuff on there too
11. Looks like they have an eBay shop too: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/suerydercarecharityshop/ Maybe there'll be some of the returns on there in the not too distant future?
12. They have quite a bit of factory damaged stuff usually, i sent them a message when they put up a load of damaged classicals asking what else the had kicking around and got some very good offers of slightly damaged higher end guitars. Worth keeping an eye on methinks, they're on my favourite seller list! Also the Sandpiper they have listed might go for a good price, they're excellent guitars. Compare favourably to a lot of expensive brands.
13. Aye they were acquired by Gibson and production shifted to Korea (there were a few intermediate Japanese ones too), they were knocking them out for silly money. Not all were as nice looking as this one, there were quite a few plain ones The price on this one is good btw, i've seen them for for over £350 even though they cost about that new! It's a popul;ar bass on the used market if eBay is anything to go by. I have a little promise to myself that one day i'll own a Tobias, hopefully an original one but it's unlikely!
14. Oh, obligatory pic:
15. Decided to purchase the one my local shop had - the much sought after Navy with Maple fretboard believe it or not! I noticed in the shop that the bridge was misaligned but that's not a big job, other than that it's hunky dory, might leave it as it is. I got it for plinking around on at work so it'll probably never be plugged in. Unfortunately the maple board isn't anything like the one's i've seen on the Ryder guitars, very plain but functional. Frustratingly there's a nice bit of quilt on the back of the neck! Mine came with the gigbag, lead, strap and truss/bridge allen keys, score! If any BCers are swinging through the Blackpool area and fancy swapping their RW board for my Maple one then i'd be up for that. I wanted RW but it looks like this is the last available SR bass in the country!
16. I've offered £22.78 exactly.
17.
But while musicians are looking for 'their sound',many singers are happy to sing out of their natural range and try and copy others, while never finding 'their voice'. This is particularly evident among the myriad of Whiney/Christina clones who add unnecessary vocal gymnastics on every phrase while singing well beyond their range, and amongst the pop-punk scene where they all put on a faux California accent-even if they are from the depths of Surrey.
Big +1
18. I tried a few before i got one and found the active ash to have the sound i wanted, really snappy but with tons of grunt. The bubinga ones seemed to lack a bit of focus to me. Contrary to Silddx i find the original brass JAN a great design, however you'll most likely be finding Corvettes with the plastic JANII (i think), which will probably have one or both of the plastic sides snapped off. Don't worry about that, doesn't afftect the bass. Just be careful when you change strings! The active ones seem to go for the same prices as passive so go for active. At the prices they go for nowadays it's a no brainer, get a Corvette!
19. If it arrived like that, yeah. £40 is a 3rd of the initial price so the deal doesn't look quite as sweet with that factored in, especially as it wasn't anything to do with you. Was it couriered? Do you know what's wrong with it, is it the pup or something else? Might be worth posting a hi res pic on here of the control cavity.
20. Does it come with any cats?
21. The shop near me has just got a Navy one in along with a few guitars inc the goldtop LP. One thing i noticed is that all the maple board guitars have a cracking bit of wood as the fretboard, every one i've seen has been beautifully figured. Is it the same on the maple boarded Basses?
22. Have a Google for "ESP 400 series bass", quite a nice bit of kit and not a cheapy by any means. The Jazz ones seem to come up more regularly, if you find one of those that sold that should be a good guide price. Linus on here had one - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=18479 Seems like a mid-80s bass? If so it's a proper Japanese ESP, not the Ltd series they put out now. Nice bass!
23. If you've been using Elixirs then you'll be used to the silky smooth texture, other strings feel rougher. I love Elixirs, even when they go hairy! But yeah, i have never liked Rotos. I don't understand why everyone still buys 'em, must be their incessant advertising campaigns in Total Guitar!
24. Just what i need, pm'd!
25. Does the volume push/pull for passive mode? If so does it work passive?
