Horrible headstock shape too!

I thought I’d read somewhere on this forum that the Embassy had gone out of production. It did disappear from the Epiphone web site for a while, but now it’s back sporting new shiny colours all of which seem to have a sparkly metal flake content. It includes the classic Burgandy Mist, but I’m not so sure about Wanderlust Green! Did I read that right 🤔🥴

I like it too! Maybe they’ll get Eko to build it for them as they built Shaftesbury’s , that might keep the price down. Is Italian Labour cheaper than American?

Probably won’t be rushing out to buy one.

With that many you’ll need lightweight to avoid massive neck dive. Licensed Hipshots would be good and are much cheaper than the US made ones.

I haven’t found the violin bass shape a problem when sitting. Getting the action down without choking and intonation right is much more challenging. I found GHS Brite Flats nicer sounding than Hofner flats (too dead). They are a bit of fun but I doubt I’ll ever gig mine.

I remember seeing Ashley Hutchings playing one of those back in the day in the Albion Band. I think they fall into the category of interesting.

And we can’t even blame Brexit for the price increase or did Trump sneak an export tariff through at the last minute without telling us?

That’s a hooky headstock a bit like Sandberg. In Tony Bacon’s book it says he wore out fingerboards on the Stingray and had it replaced.

The problem is not the designers but the buyers. Fender have brought out new designs, last I remember was the Dimension, but not enough people bought them to stay in production. Similarly Gibson have brought out to new basses, confusingly both called the EB. They both got slagged off on this forum. Whilst I’m not a fan of the later of the 2 with pointed horns, the earlier one which I have plays superbly and deserves a better response from bassists, most of whom probably haven’t played any of them.

Thanks Essential Tension, I had read that and it gave rise to my query. He bought the wrong one which resulted in quite a bit of adaption. My diy skills are very limited as are my tools.

Earlier I bought the Ignition series Violin Bass. The factory fitted nut was cut badly so I immediately replaced it with a graphite one. However not overly pleased with the result, I need to get the files out and adjust the slots as I think the strings are too high at the head end. But I have been reading about the Zero Glide Fret Nut and some people have fitted them and seem pleased with the result. The original German made and contemporary series basses have zero frets but not the Ignition. Anyone on here any experience of them, if so are they worth the effort/ cost, they are pretty expensive compared to most nuts. Secondly the size- the ZS18 which is supposed to be for Hofner is 42.7mm wide which seems wider than the neck which I think is less than 42mm.

Have look in pawn shops, I got a fantastic Ibanez for a friend who was starting out. Only paid £60, cleaned off the spilled beer, new set of stings and he had a very playable guitar that was originally £350.

As has been said, nice looking, probably good quality but at the price tag you have a lot of other options. Also I suspect the resale value would rather drastically down when other brands might hold value better.

2nd vote for the Tanglewood Crossroads. I was teaching a group which had a few and they sounded good and played easily. There is a seller on the auction site that offers Tanglewoods by auction. They say they are preowned but they are new and you can pick one up cheap.
