  1. Interesting that the Paranormal series guitars do have tele shaped headstocks. 🤔
  2. Its got something, Do I like it, probably.
  3. Sounds good or is that Guy’s playing? When a Gibson made a sliding pickup bass it also had a sliding cover over the hole which would look a lot better and stop the hole filling up with dust, fluff and and all sorts of other detritus. I like the body shape and the sunburst.
  4. Hmm! Decades? May be I’m just getting lockdown boredom. I think they had more “ring” to them originally, but now they sound more thumpy, which I know is what most people want from flats. Maybe I need to play it more and and tinker with tone controls more (and save money).
  5. It’s a 35” scale Spector so the long + should be the right length, I think🤔
  6. Plenty of violin and club basses about for sale, I picked up a 500/1 in March.
  7. I’ve had La Bella Low Tension Flats on my Spector Fretless for several years, it’s not played that often, but I am thinking the tone has gone off a bit. Whilst looking for some strings for another bass i noticed Bax we’re offering the 5 string set of Precision Flats for a bargain £30. I’ve never used any GHS products so have little to go on. Any one use/used them or have opinions. I realise that there is a big difference in the string tensions, 219lbs instead of 163 lbs. The only other flats I’ve used were Chromes (267lbs) which I didn’t like. Worth a try or to be avoided?
  8. That’s disappointing if Sire leave the side dots in the central position. I have a Spectorcore which has them at the “line” position. It definitely helps as you do need to finger the note on the “ line”. However your ear will become accustomed to listening for the note and looking for it. as to how often do I use it, it goes in spurts, sometimes it’s all I use, other times it sits unused for weeks. I do find you can use fretless on songs you wouldn’t associate with fretless, just avoid slides and finger the note as accurately as possible then lift off cleanly, then just sounds like bass.
  9. You must have shares in Thomman by now!
  10. Great person to sell to. Really quick to respond, fun emails , feel like he’s a friend now ( at a rather long social distance 😆😊😃).
  11. In that case I suggest you choose a 5 with relatively narrow string spacing as leaping across the strings spaced at 19mm can be challenging and more likely to put you off. I believe most Ibanez 5’s come in 16.5mm. spacing which probably suits plectrum players better (certainly Dave Pegg think so and he’s no slouch) although I’m sure that there will now be a host of opposite opinions voiced here. You know how it is , ask 10 people the same question, get 12 different answers.
  12. Is the moral in this story don’t buy a Renault assuming that’s what the blue job on the recovery truck is! 👎
  13. Having recently acquired a violin bass for a bit of fun mainly home use, I looked at it at thought my customary wide leather straps look ridiculous. So the hunt begun on that well known auction site and having clicked watch on a potential buy, shortly after I got a discounted offer from the seller which was tooo good to miss. So I bought it, but it was in Singapore. Fortunately I was not in a hurry to get my hands on it bit 40 days later it arrived and worth the wait. Seems like good leather, fits well and only cost £10.34 including postage. A bargain.
  14. If you’re spending £900 on a Gibson, would you not be better off buying a second hand one rather than the new “tribute” series. I suspect they might depreciate initially and possibly permanently whereas an older classic will probably hold value or even appreciate. Just a thought, if it’s not your main instrument it may not be a keeper.
  15. I mainly 5 stringers, fretted and fretless, one of which has 19mm spacing. You get used to it in seconds and one of the advantages is playing higher up the board, eg if in F start on the 6th on 5 rather than 1st on 4. You need to stretch your hand a lot less. The 5th is also quite a useful thumb rest 🥴👍🏼 I also have a short scale 4 string and as soon as I pick that up I seem to adjust in the same way as one does if you pick up a 6 (or 12) string guitar. Don’t be intimidated by the instrument, just go for it.
  16. + 1 for Spector. Really comfortable to ply with the curved body and amazing tones.
  17. Gibson EB5 either the 2013/14 retro style (like the one in my avatar) or the current one with pointed horns. Weigh in at around 3.5kg, super comfortable to play with great pickups which have pull pots to change to single coils. Should be able to pick one up for around £600 (i paid less) an absolute bargain for a USA made bass.
  18. One of the basses I’ve always wanted. Don’t like the hockey stick HMT version, but this cool. When you’re fed up with it.............
  19. I like the block markers on it, not ‘51 but nice. 👍🏼
  20. I found these in my box of bits and don’t need them. 2 Schaller strap locks but they are missing the nuts, which I know are available on eBay. There is one strap button with screw which fits ( the other I had saved with these parts is the wrong size, how do these things happen). Anyway they might be useful to someone and I don’t want much for them. I’ll post them at cost which will be around £3 for a small parcel 2nd class. (If you need them quicker I can find out the cost of 1st class).
  21. Now I’m sure there are others on here who are far more knowledgable than me on these matters, but isn’t popping when you touch the strings due to a lack of earthing rather than just shielding? It does sound like the seller hasn’t done any basic checks before sending out and the QC at Musicman is very suspect. How very disappointing for you, if you keep it I think you’ll always be looking for faults and never satisfied with it. If it can really be solved by shielding and your competent to do it, get in touch with the store and ask for a massive partial refund to make up for their incompetence and your inconvenience. There is something in law requiring goods to be of “ merchantable “ quality and this bass sounds like it wasn’t. If the shop won’t cooperate threaten them with Trading Standards.
  22. Do you see everything in black and white @Lozz196? Nice collection of Fenders. I used to have a white fretless Precision- the one I most regret selling 👎☹️
