It’s still difficult for those involved in church. We can sing/play as a band, but the congregation is not supposed to unmask or sing, unless we go outside. So we’ve stopped people parking in the car park and towards the end of the service we all troop outside. However muggins (or on alternate weeks the other bass player) has to take a load of extra equipment down the day before ready to set it up outside whilst the congregation is on the move, hoping that the rain is keeping off as we have extension cables running out to the amps. Coming with high winds this week was challenging, our rhythm player was trying to stop his mic blowing over, play guitar, sing and catch his music simultaneously. How come the set up role falls to the bass players?

It seems very strange they took them out of their range only to reintroduce them just with some different paint choices. I wonder whether they’ve switched the factory making them or changed the woods they’re made from. 🥴

Why not a fretless, that’ll give you a different sound.

It’s years since I bought a new a fender, it was a 5 string Jazz. It arrived barely playable and had to have a shim put in to get any reasonable adjustment on the bridge. That was in 1996 and I don’t think the QC has got any better.

I like bluegrass, even been to the Grand OleOpry! Sure most bands expect acoustic upright bass. I played a Washburn fretless 5 string acoustic bass for a while with bluegrass players. A bit more manageable in pubs than an upright. I had it strung with black nylon strings which gave it a pretty good resemblance of an upright.

I’ve got a Taylor T5Z. Got it 2nd hand on Reverb. Superb neck and great tone. My buddy has just got the Fender Acoustasonic which he thinks has a better range of acoustic tones.

It’s probably as cheap to fly over and collect it 😁🤔. Shame you’d have to quarantine on return, not to mention the cost of the COVID-19 tests.

A proper semi can be light, like Jack Cassidy, though not all. Some with centre blocks weigh as much as a solid. My 2013 Gibson EB is only 3.5kg, not bad for a 5 string. I believe the more recent models (the ones with longer horns) are also very light. Any of the chambered bodied basses e.g. Maruszczyk are light too.
