Sorry for bragging but do they play fretless or fretted, flat or round. I wondered if Steve Harris is in top 10 @Dad3353 , hence the question 😋
-
IMHO I don't see point practicing scales. It's not required for my playing style and I'm not a session musician. Happy to play by ear and improvise. I suppose it would improve my electric guitar solos, but this is for another topic.

who are the top 10 bassists and top 9 drummers?

Are they good for metal? @T-Bay

I don't mind punk. My first ever band we played punk. Two years back I started recording the songs we composed. Long forgotten songs....
-
I had a listen and I'm not an expert in recording or playing in a band in any shape or form. But the whole band reminded me of a festival band playing a day gig on a windy day by a beer tent where the sound disappears in the vast opened space. The vocals need backing vocals IMHO. The snare could do a bit reverb and the guitar pehaps a bit less reverb. The bass sounds a bit nasal.

IMHO a reasonably priced computer/ laptop will do. Windows cheaper than Mac. you need at least 4gb RAM PC. If you record only bass £80 buys you Focusrite Scarlet solo that comes with free DAW and pkug ins.
-
laptop £300 interface £80 comes with free DAWx2 and plug ins heaphones up to £50 microphone £90 microphone cable £9 microphone stand £14 decent bass amp up to £250 Bass VST plug in £100

+1 the above. Under £500 (minus the amp) or less if you get second hand. DIY, avoid travel time/ expense. You can lay your ideas on a track whenever you want....and it's more fun.

It doesn’t have to be in English to be good, does it?

The guitar programme was better than bass IMHO.

There was a wrong link under my post above when I logged in just now. It was titled as Silicon Cowboy with a link to a song I did not compose. Strange! The song, however , in the voting thread is correct.

I use combo but I think you could use any head for metal. Surely combination of the bass used and correct settings you can get close to tge desired sound? -

I never thought I`d start or finish this month`s comp as I faced several issues. First, I had to change my laptop screen as it broke which delayed the whole recording process. Then there were the limited 8 tracks in my DAW to lay all the instruments and sounds, but I managed to rectify the issue and recorded as follows. First I recorded the acoustic rhythm guitars by placing two small condenser microphones in front of the guitar panning hard left , hard right. I also used SM57 to record ambience which was aligned in the centre of a track. I then recorded the intro solos on the acoustic guitar in the left channel then harmony played in the right channel. Next was to record rhythm sections with a mic`d amp with a little drive using TS9. I played a telecaster and panned it hard right then another guitar rhythm riff panned hard left with less drive. I was left with one track to record bass, direct into AI via Amplitube amp. I used Fender p bass with tone rolled back. Flat wound strings. To lay drums and percussion section, I recorded these in a new live set (another 8 tracks, only used three). Drums played on keyboards via SSD5 sim. (Drum beats are not my strongest skills). I exported both guitar tracks and drums tracks into wav. files. I reopened my DAW and pasted guitar/bass wav. into one track and drum/percussion wav. into another track. I was left with 6 tracks to work with. I utilised these to record a jaw harp, whistling, horse galloping sound, and horse screaming sound (high output guitar with a tremolo Eddie Van Halen style, sort of, lol). The only sample I used was the wood vibraslap. The whistling is a tad out of tune, but it is not easy to whistle whilst on a horse back yee-haw. The mixing and mastering was done through my headphones.

Your experiences of playing in a tribute band.

My favourite album. I listened to it twice a day as a teenager when it came out both LP and tape. I still own the Live After Death VHS. It is 'The' album that made me play bass. Got a walking Edddie too ? ( no, I'm not looking for a part time job). -
I agree on pro tools. It came free with my new audio interface. It requires too much registration. I can only talk from my experience. I have used Ableton for recording heavy guitar riffs and bass either mic'd up or direct in the box with great results. I've learnt by trial and error. First I hated it but now I can't get enough. The recording, mixing and mastering possibilities are endless. One disadvantage of free Ableton live lite is that you only get 8 tracks to work with. It'll come with time.

Did you break into Maiden's wardrobe? I've been a Maiden fan for 30+ years and play Maiden songs on my Steve Harris p bass. Lots of respect for you guys for wearing all that gear. I could not do it no matter what. -
I once downloaded Reaper but didn't get on with it. I've been using free version of Ableton Live lite that came with Focusrite scarlet 2i2 some years ago. Can't fault it.
