  1. His playing and tone in particular on Joe Jackson's Look Sharp album is absolutely beautiful. I suppose the production and mixing helped. I always thought he was using a Ricky... was I right?
  2. That has to be one of the coolest basses I've seen for a long time!
  3. I don't like the way this serious and important discussion has developed...
  4. Love it when someone reveals a previously unknown musical talent. I've never heard of Ian Fergusson until now but as well as doing the weather on a local BBC station he likes to smash his favourite Ernie Ball's back door in in his spare time. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=919436542006592 Apart from Martin Bashir are there any other well known bass player broadcasters?
  5. Just look at the finish on that... yum 😋 Owned a US LB100, was a beautifully made instrument. Would love to try a L1000 someday but I too dislike too many switches etc. G&L are totally underrated instruments which is a shame. How can they achieve that 'cool' factor?
  6. Will let you know once I've had a proper play but TBH with bridges, pots etc it's all so subjective isn't it? All i can say is that the stock wiring was a bit of a tangled mess, the Kiogon loom is very neat and tidy.
  7. Speaking of which, just got my 414 back from the tech today... upgrades complete: gotoh bridge, proper jack plate instead of the barrel-type one it comes with, and a @KiOgonloom fitted (Tech had to do the loom for me as the shaft holes were too narrow for the new pots and I'm not going anywhere near it with my black and decker with my cack-handedness). Sounds great, have missed having her and her very loud pickups around, rehearsal next Tuesday 😎
  8. This. They messed with the essence of the BB range and lost that raw rock and roll coolness that you got with the 414/424/1024. The current range is very tame indeed, a very poor selection of colours on offer, and as @Machinespointed out above, over-engineered.
  9. Grae bought my Yammy BB300 yesterday, top guy and wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again 😀
  10. This has got to be the ultimate endorsement of a bass 🙂
  11. It astounds me the low values the BB414s go for. They are a no nonsense bass and with the matching headstock they look the business. Just have it!
  12. Has now appeared on ebay at a ridiculously low starting bid. Someone is going to get a bargain https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-BB300-Bass-Guitar-/265375411543?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
  13. If it meant getting rid of basses then yes absolutely 🤣
  14. I can provide a reference for him if needed 😉
  15. Nice, and I've never seen one in that colour before.
  16. Took my 10 year old daughter to see Yungblud (see above) at the O2 Academy in Brum last week. Was her first proper gig and she loved it- he didn't do much for me before we went but I was really impressed by a superb performance and he's a proper showman plus he came across as a nice guy when we met him at the meet and greet beforehand. Anyway, the reason behind the post is that the sound was terrible. The kick drum and bass notes (synth, not bass guitar regrettably) were so loud it made me feel physically ill. Every time the drummer hit the kick or a bass note rang out I felt my chest vibrate. This was the case for all three bands on the bill. Don't get me wrong I like to 'feel' it when I see bands live but this was ridiculous and the loudness of the bass frequencies 'squashed' the rest of the sound. During sections when the bass and kick were silent the rest of the sound was crystal clear and well mixed which leads me to wonder whether it was our position in the room to blame for the sound problem? With the size of bass frequencies was it inevitable that we would be hit full on in the face with bass being sat in the balcony while the punters in the stalls below get a properly mixed sound? We were sat in the front row of the balcony, right in the centre and facing the stage square on. The sound engineer was sat on the level directly below where we were sat (would have loved to go down there and push through the teenage hordes and ask him to "turn it down a bit" 😄).
  17. I had a US one new in 2000, was generally quite good but I would agree that the B string was the weakness as it was a bit on the floppy side.
  18. Seems most of the comments are about your photography skills 🤣 - you need to delete them and take some crap pics so people finally start to talk about the bass!
  19. Such excellent musicianship songs and Jamiroqai were in many ways a mainstream band who were popular and in the charts. I'm not saying there's no decent new music out there any more but what is today's equivalent of Jamiroqai?
  20. Oh no, the GAS is back, please sell this ASAP
