  1. I enjoyed the video, nice straightforward review. I love my Stingray but have thought about the added versatility of the HH. For me the best settings were the usual bridge pickup alone, and the two outer coils which resembled a J bass tone to my ears. However I think you have identified a serious problem for me in the obstruction caused by the neck pickup placement. I don't slap all the time but that pickup would bug me.
  2. An excellent interview. I like Scott and I've learned so much from his videos over the years which has not cost me a penny. His passion for our instrument is so obvious but I would offer only one bit of constructive criticism- he needs to shorten the questions as he does tend to ramble on a bit. Recommended.
  3. Can anyone identify the bass Trevor is using in this clip? It's the same one as the one he uses during the 2004 Prince's Trust gig (when he's not using a P bass)
  4. I've just finished my copy that the Mrs bought me for Xmas and it was as excellent as I expected. I agree with @wateroftyne's comments above, he is a very likeable and down to earth writer and gives a fascinating account of his experiences. Lots of interesting technical details about producing, studios, techniques etc, although apart from a reference to his Wal 5 string I would have liked a bit more nerdy info about the bass gear he has used over his career. On that note I've been watching the 2004 Princes Trust gig and he's actually a bangin' bass player! The bass is lovely and forward in the mix although hardly surprising- Trevor himself produced the sound of the DVD recording. Get the book, you won't be disappointed.
  5. Watching this vid reminds me just how cool a black and white Ricky looks. Proper cool band, pre social media, smartphones etc.
  6. It is an absolutely stonking bassline and a great song too. I only remember that one song.
  7. I believe Calvin Harris plays bass himself, at least he was credited playing bass on some of his earlier stuff?
  8. A very, very cool looking bass that. The current range need a rock and roll makeover IMO.
  9. As a fellow local BC'er I second this statement.
  10. @bubinga5can we have an update on the Squier Jazz? Still GASing for one...
  11. Sorry but that really is a really tasty looking P bass. No opinions to offer on pickups I'm afraid though 😁
  12. I need a lie down after seeing those pics....😍😍😍
  13. I've got the 4 string version of this, bought s/h from this site. It's light (3.8kg) and wonderful.
  14. I did immediately change the strings as I had a new set handy and was going to do it anyway at some point.
  15. What should the height over the 1st fret be? Is there a tool/technique I need to rectify the problem?
  16. When I set the intonation on my Ray34 by measuring the harmonic at the 12th fret then checking the fretted tone and adjusting as needed until perfect I noticed a problem: once I've got it perfect at the 12th fret I checked the tuning at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th frets and the tuning was out (sharp). I've never noticed this before but I'm convinced I can actually hear it now I'm listening out for it. Is this normal and can anything be done about it? Is this the reason why fan fret basses were invented?
  17. Thanks for posting this, I've enjoyed reading about your musical journey. I would love to be able to immerse myself in deepening my musical knowledge and experience the way you have but personal commitments prevent me from doing so at the moment. Dare I ask... what basses you own?
  18. Good to have you on board @pembroke151 Is there anything interesting in the pipeline from Yamaha basses?
