  1. Another Carlsbro. It was my first bass amp, sounded like stinky poo and was unreliable. After about the 3rd fault Carlsbro took it back and found a product fault. Whilst they were looking at it, the shop lent me an Orange to keep gigging and it was fantastic. Carlsbro eventually compensated me by giving me the next Carlsbro model up for free 🤦‍♂️
  2. If you don’t want to enter the second hand market, the Ashdown amp you suggested in the first post will be absolutely fine. You could get loads of other suggestions, I have a Roland Cube 30 and it’s a fantastic practice amp, but can’t go wrong with an Ashdown. As you say, in a years time (or less) he’ll be wanting a bigger beast, When I was 18 I bought a Trace Elliot 4 x 10” - my mum was extremely relieved when I moved out 😂
  3. You can’t really go wrong with Boss gear, and £25 is exceptional value. Darkglass Alpha Omicron and Duality eventually kicked my ODB-3 off my board, but it served me well for years, and I sold it for more than I paid for it.
  4. Just added a ltd edition Duality, and my board is full … I think.
  5. If all your songs are in drop tuning, why not just detune your bass. 5 string solves all , but not everyone likes playing them.
  6. The only real answer to this is swap them around until you find what you like. Even then, there’s nothing wrong with changing it up every so often. If you are DI’ing from your preamp, I’d be tempted to go: tuner comp OD preamp
  7. What’s the verdict on the Fuzzistor?
  8. If you like the Cube and have a budget of around £200, the Cube-30 (or 20) is a good bet. Great little practice amp, and have also got quite a bit of oomph if you need it.
  9. Used to cart a TE 410 combo about, back in the day, when I was young, fit and healthy. My back just twinged looking at this.
  10. Probably already been said, but I wouldn’t rely on pedals , but more look at what all the great bass players in 3 piece bands do when the guitarist solos - Muse, Rush, the Police, Green Day, Biffy, etc. You mainly need to hold it down, solid as a rock. Your guitarist will need to have a decent boost though, as his/her sound will go from chords to single notes, and ideally should be louder. It’s quite a skill for guitarists to get right. The type of pedal will probably be more dependant on what style of music you play , and what suits your playing, rather than just a fix for guitar solos. Mind you, can never go wrong with a decent drive pedal with a blend control, or a decent compressor, or an octave, or a chorus, or a … and then damn, you’re in the rabbit hole.
  11. No to all of them . Although 9 is a default bonus every time you buy a new pedal and show it off to your guitarists.
  12. I have the Alpha Omicron and it’s a really great drive pedal. The ability to blend the alpha and omega drive circuits is a nice touch , and the blend control keeps the bottom end. It is my favourite pedal on my board.
  13. A+B mix bypass setting. Put your drives in the A loop. Nothing in the B loop. Keep the LS-2 on permanent. When you kick in the drives, you’ll still have clean bass in the B channel. You can tweak the A and B volumes to suit your taste. Great pedal. loads of other stuff you can do with it too.
  14. I’m not going to buy it, but I really like some of the covers on The Blacklist. Not sure what my favourite is, as there are so many good ones, but a surprising standout is Miley Cyrus and her all star band singing Nothing Else Matters. Ghost’s version of Enter Sandman is fantastic. Biffy Clyro have made Holier Than Thou a Biffy song.
  15. Sounds awesome . Patrick Hunter does some great demos.
  16. Been listening to the singles on YouTube, mainly because Over And Out has Tatiana Shmayluk on vocals.
  17. There are quite a few videos on YouTube showing various Royal Blood set ups, although none of them look that cheap. There was one with a Pog, an LS-2, and 2 amps, that worked quite well.
  18. Asking for advice on compressors on a bass forum is like … actually there’s probably no comparison, but it’s funny. I’ve played a few, and owned three, but the Hyper Luminal is definitely the last compressor I’ll ever buy.
  19. I can’t see all your settings on your pedals, but you might be better off turning the blend anti-clockwise on the Boss and The Microtubes, so you get more clean signal, when you’re playing with the band. Will cut through the mix better. I always try and avoid scooping mids when playing with a band. Isolated power supplies may improve things, but sometimes that is just snake oil when you only have a few pedals.
  20. I think the BF Supertwin cab is one of the best cabs I’ve ever heard. However, if you already have 2 Ashdown 210s, which are amazing cabs as well, surely this is just GAS 😉.
  21. The Supertwin is extremely light, and you will never be short of power. You won’t miss a tweeter, and if you are battling 2 guitarists and live drums, the Supertwin is probably the perfect weapon to cut through the mix. You will be heard and felt, no messing. As someone else said here, no cab will fix the crap acoustics of a village hall.
  22. I have the Boss TU-3 and it’s always been great, plus it doubles up as a kill / mute switch. Easy to read on a dark stage as well, so no nonsense tuning when you have a short break in play. The only downside is it takes up more room than some of the other tuners. And some other pedals or amps have tuners on board.
  23. Are the Microtube engines on the Darkglass Microtubes amps as good as the B3K and VMT pedals , and does the compression match up to the Hyper Luminal pedal? I already have a fairly good amp, and a Hyper Luminal, and was thinking about getting a B3K or B7K, but then got thinking I could just get the Microtubes amp and flog my Hyper Luminal.
  24. For excellent bass playing and an all round great album, I’m giving Wallflowers by Jinjer a 10/10. My favourite so far for 2021
