  1. I have a Barefaced Super Twin and it doesn't get out of 1st gear for an average pub / club gig. These days, a 2 X 12 will cover most scenarios. If you need to go louder, you'd probably be damaging your hearing.
  2. Makes sense, but I definitely found it to be an improvement with the LS-2. It's a safe bet as I know I can kick the OD in and always have a clean signal and no loss of low end, regardless of how much I fosters about with the settings on the OD. Like I said, I'm not an effects guru, so probably won't be tweaking much beyond this as I'm fairly happy with the OD and fuzz sound, whereas before I always used to feel it sucked the life out of the bass.
  3. I always went for the Dunlop Tortex as you can't go wrong with them. I use a variety of the yellow, green and blue picks. However, I recently swapped to the new Ernie Ball Prodigy picks and they are fantastic,
  4. I haven't tried a heap of pedals, but have found a pretty good overdrive sound in a band mix, by running a standard Boss ODB-3 through a Line Selector, and then blending the OD or fuzz 50/50 with a clean sound.
  5. Hi, I played bass a lot in my youth, but gave up around the age of 23, and thankfully didn't sell my gear. I came out of retirement now and again to play the odd gig, but dusted everything down a few years ago, and am really enjoying playing again. I play pubs and cheap gigs whenever the opportunity arises (18/year but hope to do more), and am currently having a crack at Trinity Rock Grade 7. My bass is my trusty Stingary V that I bought from the Bass Centre in 1992 (after trying nearly every bass on the market). I retired my Trace Elliott 1210 to save my back, and now use a Little Mark 3 with a Barefaced Super Twin. I have a few Boss effects, all sounding really good blended with a Line Selector.
  6. I bought a Super Twin, mainly because my back could no longer handle lugging my old Trace Elliott combo around, and it has just got better and better. IMHO, the best thing about this cab, is not that it sounds great, it's the fact that it cuts through guitars, drums and vocals with ease, once you get the amp settings right. Once a year I get to play a gig with 'money no object' hire kit, and I get the Ampeg SVT / 8 X 10 rig - usually, this completely blows me away and makes me think about taking a 4th mortgage, but after playing the Super Twin for the last year, I came to the conclusion .... the BF ST is that good, it is better than the Ampeg 8 X 10 (and no, they weren't supplying free drugs as well).
  7. I have a LM3 head, which I have been very impressed with, paired with a Barefaced Super Twin. The Super Twin is great but I'm sure it doesn't get out of first gear at the average pub gig. On the LM3, I have found turning the VLE and VLF OFF helps cut through the sound when playing in a band.
  8. I went through this dilema years ago, and the only way to do it is trial and error as it is personal. I was worse than a poser in a shoe shop. After trying endless 5-stringers, I was losing sleep over whether to go for a Status or a Pedulla as they were both absolutely awesome. Then I tried a Musicman Stingray V, and that just blew the lot out of the water.
