1. Nice thread, thanks for giving me some more stuff to check out and listen to. I've tried to take in all of the "God I Love Jazz" thread, but as there's so much to wade through and so many points / issues & selections of music have been made it's a mammoth and daunting task, so I gave up trying to read it all! - I wonder if it's worth creating a sticky, lockable thread which has the "best of" information and advice from the "God I Love Jazz" thread? Just a thought..
2. Ha ha, it's all I thought of when his name was mentioned in an event. I'd never pictured it in my mind though.
3.
I thought the whole point of endorsing gear when you're at MK's level was that you could phone up the manufacturer/distributer at say "I'm going to doing a TV programme next week make sure there's an amp at the studio for the filming". Bit of a slip up on someone's part IMO.
Yup! oops! Sadly I'm not lucky / well known enough to have an endorsement so I don't know exactly how it all works - maybe one day!
4. He's still using TC, it's spec'd on the riders when he isn't able to take his own stuff (whether the local supply companies can provide it is an entirely different issue). My guess is that Mark took only his bass and the BBC's production just sourced "a bass amp" and a TE amp arrived at the studio.

6. I'm definitiely getting it. At the time I was working on a tour which loaded out of the O2 the night before Zeppelin loaded in and we had a day off the next day - which was the day of the show - a few of us had the daydream of staying in the building and be unpaid extra pairs of hands to work for the day and watch the gig as a bunch of my good mates were working on it. We didn't though as I'd have had to have been in Manchester for 7am the morning after the gig - so we didn't even make and enquiries to that effect. The closest I've come to seeing the gig was listening to the rehearsals though, and that was good enough for me, until now. Whilst they were in production rehearsals up at Elstree film studios some members of the local crew had to stand in for the band and mime for an entire run-through of a recording of the show so the band could see what the whole show looked like in real time. I guess being JPJ's stand-in is a nice job if you can get it!
7. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19572817 Blimey, they're certainly making a point of clamping down on this.... The common factor does indeed seem to be the use of bit torrents, (i.e. the subsequent sharing of any illegally downloaded material) and the US courts. Good luck in your thesis mate!
8. Ahhh, takes me back to my uni days - way back when this tune was at No.2 in the charts they played the venue at our uni where I also worked (and ended up getting far too mixed up in this god forsaken industry....). They did a great show and the crowd went potty for them even though pretty much 99% of the audience only knew slight return at the time - nice and friendly chaps too! However, I don't have the dots... sorry....
9. Look out, big brother is watching! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19474829 The authorities seem to be clamping down on all of the file sharing and piracy which is out there at the moment.
10. The first gig I ever went to was Skin, at the Ipswich Corn Exchange in the early 90's. They were pretty good but they were supported by a band called Baby Stafford (or something like that) who were brilliant. I've not really heard of either of them since but my mate did see Skin in KFC afterwards and their guitarist (whatever his name is) told him to check out Paul Gilbert and as a result I discovered Billy Sheehan! Happy days!
11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQI6aJrGhEw - a link - note the first comment "thumbs up if scrubs sent you here" ha ha!
12. Devil Driver - Devil Driver! One of the tracks from this album was in scrubs, where the delivery driver is giving Dr Cox's son Jack & later JD a lift in his van and he's listening to these guys. One quick google later and I found out it's this lot. I quite like it!
13. Road to Ruin - Mr Big, I saw someone name this as a suggestion on here a while back and I just remembered about it today. It's good fun to play.
14. I'm watching it too - sounding fantastic. Great band. Who is the photo on Taylor's kick frum of? There aren't many live bands around at the moment who do a show as good as them, and they always look like they enjoy every minute of it too.
15.
Hi Mark. I am interested in your bass and would like to have a look at it. Might you be around this weekend? My number is: 07906 279118 Many thanks. Mark Johnson
Hi, I did send you a PM, I'm away working this weekend, but I am around on Monday daytime if that's any good?.
16.
I got a 1x15 combo plus 4x10 extension speaker
That's what I had too, I did really love it - it looked really cool too! But I was so annoyed about the issue at the gig, and coupled with the weight of the 4x10" cab I decided to let it all go for an overall more lightweight option
17. I was the proud owner of a Trace SMX rig a long time ago, and I'd spend ages fiddling with the EQ to dial in the perfect sound that I was after and ultimately I got there and I was really happy. However at a gig I was playing at I let a chap from a support band use it and he promptly set it flat and then boosted the bass right up - without even asking or apologising - when I came to play I did my best to try and dial in what i had before but I just couldn't quite get the sound I had / was expecting to have and I was gutted and angry with myself for not sounding my best and also made me think twice about letting people I don't know use my stuff in the future. Shortly afterwards I sold the whole rig and moved onto much simpler rigs (I've currently got a TC RH rig) and I'm loving the fact that it all sounds amazing straight out of the box. Maybe I was being unnecessarily anal and obsessing about things with my Trace and there was barely any difference in the tweakings I was doing or it really did need that my of my work to get the sound I wanted out of it. Who knows! But i'm happy with what I've got now and it's an system that barely has an EQ used on it except for a little nudge / boost / cut here and there depending on the room.
18. I only found out about them today by chance, I would guess it's a new thing for them and it's all still in the process of being sorted out and started up etc... hence the "coming soon" - dunno, just a guess. I would imagine that I will do them when they're available, I've done the Rock School exams and i've got the RGT grade 8 in December - as I don't have a band / anyone to play with it gives me something to concentrate / work on.
19.
Take a look at Transcribe (seventhstring.com) - drag and drop from iTunes, change key, tempo etc. I have found it useful. I think there is a free version too.
+1 for Transcribe. I tend to save the file in their new key for future use, I also use it to change songs which are annoyingly in Eb etc, but everyone else decides to play in E and then have them all in a smart playlist in i-tunes, with the album / genre being "key changed songs".
20. Wow, that's a real shock for me to wake up to. I still do a fair amount of touring with EJ and he was a nice fella and an incredible & underrated bassist. Gobsmacked. RIP.
