1. Very nice, great post - and something in there for me too.. I did actually utter the words "ooh, a Mac 2k wash" which was quickly followed by me being annoyed i wasn't paying enough attention to the backline.
2. Not really, practicing and nailing it is on my to-do list but i never get around to it. I can do the simple stuff but if it's anything too taxing harmony-wise i end up back on the melody or singing the bassline.
3.
Like your mom, you could replace her with another perfectly fine mom or even a better one but it just won't be the same.
Oof! for a second there i was wondering where that reply was heading! Thankfully it wasn't what i expected!
4.
Hands up, it happened to me. I started playing - without checking my tuning - at 4.30 this morning, and the neighbours started banging on the wall. So it's not just bass players who notice these things.
Ah, so that was you! You were so loud I could barely hear myself drilling.
5. Ha ha, that's terrible! It sounds like he's been 'shredded'!
6. I've just had a big old purge. I didn't realise quite how much stuff i had on here!
7.
I think that Incubus have become a band that just oozes quality. From what I've heard of the new stuff (the two singles) I can't fault them in any way. They are writing (for want of a better word) mature, elegant, classy rock songs that have an instant appeal. Sure, they're not writing stuff like "Glass" or "Redefine" any more, but why should they? They (and countless others) have done that. There is nothing worse than a band releasing the same, tired old albums again and again for the duration of their career. It bores the f*** out of me. If a band can't do something different after three albums, then they lose me. As for Dirk leaving, well, yes, it certainly had an effect on their music, but not as sudden as everyone seems to think. "Drive" was not typical Incubus at the time, and was the first hint that this band could be more than just a one trick, pubescent-rap-funk-metal band that was rapidly becoming old hat. And this was in 1999, some 4 years and a further album before Dirk quit. Brandon's voice has gotten better and clearer, as evidenced on the "Adolescents" single, and Ben Kenney can groove like a mofo without having to resort to out-dated slap. I love 'em. Nuff said.
Well said, my sentiments exactly. I've seen them a whole bunch of times, the best of which was at Brixton a couple of years ago. Awesome. Great band. I've not seen the streaming stuff though, I'll have to check that out.
8. The 2x10" was bought, with thanks. It's in excellent condition and a pleasure to deal with Legion. Cheers.
9. I bought a TC 2x10" from him. Thoroughly nice chap & was kind enough to hold it for a few weeks for me until i was back in the country and could purchase it from him. Two thumbs up from me! Cheers.
10. Hard case for me, everytime. I basically don't trust anyone else not to knock my bass over (whilst in it's case), or drop something on it, fall on it etc..
11.
I used to use a couple of these: Very nice (and pricey) high-quality hard case / soft case halfway-house. After a near miss involving a sliding flight case, I shifted to the Hiscoxes. I know semi-hard cases have their place, but they're not for me. Each to their own, as you say!
They look good, i'll have to investigate them. Thanks.
12. Also, on the clothes show live at the NEC a few years ago the sugababes performed / semi presented the main show. They had who-knows how many hairdressers, make-up artists, stylists etc who took hours make sure they were pampered and happy with the way they looked before they went on stage. The next day Charlotte Church presented / appeared on the same show and sent all of the beauticians / hairdressers / make-up artists away simply saying "i'm ok, i've brought my own brush". Exactly the same gig, different attitude, same results.
13. Ha ha, i love it when bands / artistes have a sense of humour, and it also winds me up when bands take themselves too seriously. On a very recent gig / festival Linkin park's security insisted that all crew and personnel cleared the stage before they went on and they weren't allowed within 100ft of the band. Pathetic.
14.
Bump for pictures, mention of new finish not old and clarification that collection is near Ipswich
PM'd
15.
Bump
Bump for a great head. I've one that i'm having to sell soon too. Good luck with the sale.
16. I'm not sure if it's GAS, but i've a hankering for a 2x10" TC RS cab. I've got the 2x12" and i really want the 2nd cab to go with it. I don't NEED the 2nd cab, but i do NEED it (in my mind there is a difference!). Also, the head I have is more than perfect for both cabs, but i want to sell it and get the TC head to go with the cabs, that part is GAS though.
17.
I thought it was Kevin Bacon at first glance ....how may degrees of separation would that be?
According to the oracle of bacon website KYLE EASTWOOD (was in) Honkytonk Man (1982) (with) CHARLES CYPHERS (who was in) Murder in the First (1995) (with) KEVIN BACON! so 2!!
18. I'd have sent / taken it back too. If i'm buying something new, which if it's bass related is potentially / probably quite expensive, i'd expect it to be pristine, unmarked and in 100% working condition. I've no qualms about complaing. I bought a MacBook Pro from the apple store a couple of years ago, the box they gave me had a crumpled corner and a tear on the other end. I simply said "get me another one" and the 12 year old at the till said "Why? ... But i'll have to go back to store room!" My look of "so?" said it all. I'd be embarrassed selling a supposed perfect item which had something wrong with it.
19. 1. Flea - the main reason and inspiration for me starting to play bass properly 2. John Paul Jones 3. Jaco 4. Stu Hamm 5. Tim Commerford Simples.
20.
Maybe she needs a dep?
She's said she's busy, so i guess so.
21. Here's a link for her facebook page, Here I'm not sure if you have to be added as a friend to view her posts, i'm not a close friend of hers, but if it's a problem i'll forward on any contact info. She's just posted: "I can't vouch for anyone of the names personally, I need to be able to send them links to live work with bvs inc. it's a world tour with dates in June and tour starting properly in September.".
22.
I did once see him slapping the bollox out of his Bass - So i think he thinks its ok... Garry
Great phrase, I think I'll use that more! It's along the lines of a sh*tload being a standardised unit of measurement.
23.
Your not thinking of Paul H's are you? Robotrobotrobot i think it's on red bubble (check his sig strip)
That's the one! Thanks guys. Mark
24. Ages ago, someone put a link on here for a website that had mail / internet order bass related t-shirts for sale on it. Can anyone remember what the link or thread was, i've done a couple of searches but can't find it. Thank in advance. (i've a birthday looming and the wife is pestering me for ideas).
