1. I tend to know which note I'm playing if I've transcribed the track as I picture the sheet music in my mind in order to remember it - regardless of which string / position on the neck I'm playing but keeping an eye on what key & chord I'm playing in so I can apply shapes and scales if I need to. If I'm writing / jamming / working stuff out then I use shapes and what i call "interval pictures" so it's easy to move a riff or run from one chord or key to another if I need to. Trying to remember open string harmonics and their pitch is something I always struggle with though.
2. A friend of mine fell for the iron man suit gag today and was genuinely trying to work out a way to finance it...
3. ***SOLD*** Hello all. I did have these for sale for ages but I had no-one contact me about them. As they're now just simply in the way I'll be throwing them away in a week or so if there is still no interest. I'm not looking for payment for them, just the postage etc. ABRSM Theory Of Music Exams – Grade 5 Exam Papers & Model Answers. 2006 to 2011 - 6 exam booklets & 6 model answer booklets. Each booklet has 4 exams inside which gives a total of 24 exams & model answers. I worked through these papers and wrote the answers in pencil, which I have since rubbed out, (the occasional bit of pencil might remain which I may have missed). The exception of this are the exams "B" & "C" from 2006 where I used a pen for some of the answers and obviously my scrawlings are still there. This is a job lot, but you pay the postage. bought all of these from new to help me through my Grade 5 theory exam a few years ago, they worked - I obtained a 94% distinction! (Woo hoo!). I'll have lots more books on sale soon, as I'm having a clear-out and a mass cull of the hundreds of books I have.
4.
I thought the Macca part was the least enjoyable bit. The song they wrote is useless, it sounds like a song they had 2 hours to write during a break in Macca's schedule.
Agreed, rumour has it he didn't realise who he was playing with either (with the exception of Dave). It started off as a documentary about the studio and the desk but i felt it eemed to turn into an advertising feature for the album. That said, I did enjoy the josh Holme and Trent Reznor bit. It was interesting to watch how Trent worked with his computers etc..
5.
Here is a link to another thread on here for the "Best of Soundgarden" book / tabs / sheet music.
Of course what I meant was HERE is a link.... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/202228-soundgarden-badmotorfinger/ d'oh!!!
6. Here is a link to another thread on here for the "Best of Soundgarden" book / tabs / sheet music.
7.
I found this on my laptop...maybe this will help
Thank you for this - I've taken the liberty of grabbing it too. I'll reciprocate should the situation arise. Cheers.
8. I've got it too, it was recommend to me by someone else on here about 15 years ago. It's outstanding, great fun to play.
9. Ah, just seen that other people have offered the dots, sorry, I should really learn to read the whole thread rather than just the last post!
10. Do you still need it? I have the dots if you want them. I love the bassline to this song, not necessarily because it's the best / most complicated / most amazing line ever but because when I first started playing all those years ago I heard this song and the bassline just stuck out and I loved it. It was the first track that inspired me to really push my bass education and work hard to improve. Two thumbs up.
11. I remember that issue as I had the 4-string version of that bass and had just bought an SMX combo at the time. If I remember correctly the caption for the photo was "one man and his bass step out" however I don't know who it is. I had every one of the magazines but gave them away as they were just gathering dust.
12. It does sound like it'd be a band playing funk versions of Spinal Tap tracks. Three things I hate doing: 1 - finding a car to buy 2 - finding a place to live 3 - working out a band name.
13. I get that, a lot. It's very depressing, especially when I play with some outstanding musicians and I feel like i'm the weakest link. I tend to practice something utterly different to what I have been doing recently. i.e. if i've been concentrating on mastering certain difficult pieces then I'll practice walking for a couple of weeks, or try concentrate on trying out new finger dexterity exercises instead of transcribing etc... Essentially I just mix it up and dig out some inspirational music too. Good luck, I hate it when it happens to me.
14. Ok Ta, I don't have garage band with me at the mo so I wasn't able to investigate.
15.
Hasn't it got GarageBand ? I think it's standard depending on how old your Mac is. GarageBand is a cut down version of Logic and suits me fine.
Sorry to go off-topic - I have only used garage band to do ringtones for my phone and nothing more. if it's a cut down version of Logic, is it possible to use it as a notation program? i.e. for manual input of transcriptions? or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks
16.
Well, you need to vegan interface . Or you could get a lead which has standard guitar jack on one end and a USB at the other. I use a toneport ux1 by line 6. Somebody else will be along shortly
+1, but I use the Line 6 Tone port GX when I'm travelling. At home I plug into a DI box, which goes into a mixer along with my mac's output into some generic speakers / headphones.
17. I've just transcribed a track into standard notation for the first time in about 6 months and it's taken me bloody ages. It's certainly not particularly tricky or complex but I've done the whole track and I'm surprised and quite shocked by how long it took and how much I had to concentrate as opposed to how long I thought it would take based on the previous hundreds of songs I've done before. Oh well, it looks like I've let that slip a bit so I'm going to spend a bit more effort getting that skill back up to speed again - no doubt at the cost of another key technique or skill that I won't have time to practice instead and I'll have a similar issue again soon!
18. Cheers chap, thanks for the link & good point well presented.
19.
Express Yourself
+1 Great track, it's been covered a few times and is also currently on a telly box advert so everyone will know it.
20. Have an "I would buy it if I had the money - actually I do have the money but the wife really would kill me if I did" bump.
21. Sorry, sold on evil bay already for a Buy-It-Now price which I genuinely didn't think it'd go for - and within 15 minutes too! Thank you Monckyman for your reply.
22. I do have pics and a good description of it etc, but I've just put on sale elsewhere online, if it doesn't sell in ten days then I'll pop it on here! Thank you very much!
23. Hi, I have a rare protection racket / Queen & Paul Rodgers branded protection racket hardware case for sale. Is that suitable for this sub-forum? I thought I'd check rather than cause an issue. Thanks,
24. I did my rock school exams in London about 5 years ago and they had a very nice Ashdown rig to play through. The RGT exam I just did had a 10 Watt practice amp which I struggled to get a decent sound out of, but fortunately the examiner realised this and was very understanding.
25. More results - I just got piano grade 3 - pass, I'm happy with that as it was the first time I'd ever actually played an upright piano and I'd not practiced for a month!. I've got a nice electric piano at home but I was surprised by the difference. I also received my RGT grade 8 Bass result this morning too, 91% distinction. I'm happy with that too. Now that I've got the RGT and Rock School Grade 8 distinctions I'll give the Trinity College Rock 'n Pop grade 8 next year. I don't have time not am I home enough to be in a band so the exams give me some structure to my practicing. I'd still much rather be gigging though, I personally feel that is what would do the best for my playing. Oh well... Still - happy days!
