[/quote] I used 1.14 dunlop delrin (the pink one) for years, but being quite aggressive, I was shredding them in no time and switched to the 1.5 version (lilac) and found them not only to last longer but give a much more solid tone on a Bass string. When pick playing now, they're all I use.

I'm a big Neil Young fan, he's one of those guys you'll either love or hate for most. I remember someone once wrote into Q magazine (who would always give anything Neil Young put out 5 stars) saying 'If Neil Young recorded himself farting into a Jam Jar, would you give that 5 stars too?, to which they replied 'We'd have to hear it first'. Enjoying this thread immensely! Being from the South Wales Valleys, for us it's a case of 'any phonics butt?', to which I always reply, 'next weeks band mate'. My covers band do modern pop, we have a (relatively) young female singer, and do Rita Ora, Meghan Trainor, Ellie Goulding etc...I remain amazed at the fact that some people are still surprised when I tell them 'No, we don't do any Oasis' after they've listened to the sort of set we have for the last hour or so. IMHO, in general your 'average' pub punter bases their judgment on how good your band is by the content of your setlist, rather than how well you play the songs. I've had this discussion with various people who call a band sh*t because they don't like the songs (which may actually be being played very well indeed). Usually Rock/metal fans (of which I am one) who are seeing a Pop Band. YMMV!

OK so some quick work on the squier website shows that the VM's are made in Indonesia, and the CV's made in China.

Apologies if this has been covered, but does anyone know what are the differences for the above? I know the VM's are cheaper, but they seem to be going after a similar theme... Lot of love for the CV's, doesn't seem to be so much for the VM's? Opinions / thoughts / Facts most welcome!

My collection has been up to 11 at one point (not a lot by some standards I know, but it's the most I've ever had at any one time). I've tried most of the big 'classic' Bass brands (Fender, musicman, Ricks, warwick) over the years and I've come to the conclusion that for me 'the one' doesn't really exist. IMHO it's more a case of the 'right one for the job'. If you've only ever been in one band for your whole gigging life then maybe 'the one' does exist (think Steve Harris's Precision, which is clearly 'the one' for him). After all these years (25+ years gigging), I've finally found what works for me is having a Precision & a Jazz that I really love playing, using either one as the gig suits. YMMV of course!

[/quote] If using one it's just been on the floor up til now. Have been considering some sort of stand / kick back mind you.. Regards break-in I'd say they were broken in by the end of the 3rd gig I did with them.

I've got 2 supercompacts and they're great - one is easily enough for all gigs. For some gigs I've actually taken both in for aesthetics but only plugged the top one in. Works a treat.

Soundchecking is a funny old game at pub/club/function band level. Also depends if you're running full FOH or backline/vocal PA only. We run full FOH & the longest surviving members of the band don't like soundchecking - so at the very least, I ALWAYS do a line check of every PA input, just to make sure everything is on at least. I do get a little pissed off when people refuse to soundcheck, and then complain about stage volume (and don't forget it can be either too loud or too quiet!)
