Dare I say it, perhaps more innovation on the 4003 (I realise they did it on other models) and some modern tweaks could make the 4003 an even bigger hit for Ric. I know its a tried and tested classic design, but I sometimes think if they just went all out and made a modern 4003 with bulletproof quality and tweaks to make it comfortable, they could do extremely well. I'm talking things like truss rod wheel at the end of the neck and just go for a normal truss rod, sort the pickup surround out, less fussy paint and binding, same pickups and elecs, same style but some contouring to let it fit to the body better even at the expense of some binding, offer a few new colours, hike the price, address the cramped string/neck feel, address the neck shape. Basically, make it sound exactly the same, look almost the same, but make it easier to use!
Hallelujah! I was going to post much the same thing but couldn't be arsed to type out everything that needs changing. Thanks!!
Depending on condition, £600-£750.
^^This for a private sale, expect to pay a little more in a shop.

Ricks and Jazzes getting a lot of mention here - here's my take on both, as a player whose go to has always been a Precision. Rick 4003 - Best looking Bass I've ever 'worn'. Completely uncomfortable to play for me. Lack of body chamfers and that ridiculous bridge pickup surround made it a total fight to finish a gig, even with the 'over the top' cover removed. Jazz - Always loved the sound of them, Played many but always drifted back to the precision, mainly because of the necks being so different in comparison. Then I discovered the ones which have 'U' shaped necks, and found that even with the narrower nut and string spacing, the neck sits really nicely in the hand. Got myself a 1975 Jazz a few weeks ago and I'm totally besotted with it. Now I just need a good backup to it (there's a thread there I reckon!) YMMV!

IEMS being seriously considered by my band.

Love the sound of my Geddy Lee Jazz, but I'd really like a chunkier neck for it. Spotted this on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.u...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT It's relatively close and for £20 starting bid it's gotta be worth a shout, right? Seller says 'not sure of the make' so it's most likely (well, almost certainly) not a Genuine Fender neck.. What do you guys think?
Gave this a bit of a go while picking up my sub5 earlier, looks great in the flesh and plays like an absolute dream! Lewis and the BH a pleasure to deal with also, a solid 9/10 (Point deduction incurred through false advertisement of a cuppa on arrival, be on your guard basschatters!)
That's a fair assessment Callum - I did forget to make you a brew! Blame the mrs for chatting... Pleasure doing business with you..

One of the best bands I've ever seen / heard. Savagely underrated in my opinion. They were easily as good as (if not better than) any of the 'name' Britpop (I only use the term to define the period in time!) bands.

Yep I agree with BFM - The OP says he just wants more punch and power - the simplest way to do this is adding an extension cab.

I agree Karl, but I find myself being a bit more picky these days - was a time I absolutely had to have any bass which I thought would be good for me. Through tons of trial and error I've come to the conclusion that I prefer maple fingerboards, with a definite lean towards Fenders and Fenderlikes. I'll leave that one to someone who'll make proper use of it.......

Yep I've used them loads online and always find them to be amongst the best pricing around, with good stock levels and (in my area anyway) they use DPD for delivery, who's online tracking system is excellent.

Ooof that's a bit nice. Very 'Betsy'!
Is that the Sandberg who's praises you were singing?
That's the one! - No doubt the Sandberg is a great Bass, but just for a laugh I only took a P Bass to my gigs last weekend, and had no trouble at all! So I thought, you know what, lets get a really nice Jazz and that'll be fine! Therefore my Sandberg VM5 and Musicman SUB 5 are now up for sale, in the for sale section! Will it ever end? I hope not!!!!

SOLD pending the usual! - Musicman USA S.U.B - 5 string

OK so my 5 string clear-out continues...... Here's a really nice example of the fabled USA made SUB Basses. Most of you probably already know the story of these but for those who don't: These were made in the same factory as the standard USA Stingrays for a few years in the mid 00's. Slab bodies, cheaper finishes and hardware meant they could sell them for less than a standard Stingray. Rumour was Musicman stopped making them because sales of the standard Stingray were suffering due to these being so good and significantly cheaper... Only mark is a small paint chip on the back of the neck, which I'll get a pic of later on tonight. I'll also add some better general pics of it too. I've only gigged it once (it was a backup to my Sandberg) and the guy I bought it off only used it for recording occasionally. Bass is in the Bridgend area of South Wales, but I can travel for the right deal or could courier at cost. I don't have a hard case for it but could supply a non-musicman gig bag if needed. Any trial is welcome, any questions about the Bass please ask! Cheers! -
Yep - Tecamp withdrawn from sale - tried it last night just straight into the amp without putting through the pedal board at all - Glorious! If only I wasn't a compression / overdrive junkie.........
Gorgeous bass, congrats Lew!

Despite what I grew up hearing about CBS Fenders the 70s was truly a glorious era for beautiful jazz basses. Lovely example you've got there.
Thanks Gents - I'm really happy with it - Now for the 5-string clearout! Turns out I don't need the B string after all......

Ha - destiny indeed! Unfortunately I haven't got an interface for recording onto PC, thought about getting one a few times, never got round to it! The main difference to something more modern would obviously just be the neck shape - 7.25" radius and more U shaped than C shaped. Also the micro-tilt is a great idea, not sure why they stopped doing that.. I would also say the pickups are lower output than more modern Fenders, but hey that's what the gain knob on the amp is for...
