1.
it could of course be that the speakers have a 'low' standard? The amp on itself was pretty responsive but I just couldn't get a direct sound out of it.
i've found the heads to be really good, and the cabs to be really disappointing and with large amounts of speaker excursion at low power, for some reason. ime, ymmv, etc...
  2. details in my sig/profile. it's not perfect but it is soooo much fun to play.
  3.
I was wondering if its worth putting casters direct onto the bottom of the cab.
imo, no. some sort of trolley/board with casters is the way to go.
  4.
22w ???
probably one of the little TDA chips, surprised no one's thought of it before. i might actually make one myself and/or buy one, would be perfect for practice if i had a spare cab.
  5.
The live room will ultimately be 8inches of concrete, an inch of rockwool, one layer of 19mm plasterboard followed by a layer of 15mm soundblock. There'll be a substance called 'Green Glue" sandwiched between the plasterboard layers to prevent transmission. Every stage will be caulked/sealed so it's independently air tight. All of this is built on a floating concrete floor with approx 12 inches of airgap to the outside shell (phew, I must be nuts!)
nah, not nuts, just doing it right. mass, mass, and more mass -- can't go wrong with mass. well, i suppose you can, but you're not haha, it's looking great! any idea what the STC (or SRI) is estimated to end up at for the walls and ceiling?
  6. that is quite a ways away from me, i'm sorry i've got a friend who lives closer to that area, she is back and forth to cambridge a lot, i can see if perhaps she will take it down, but it is unlikely
  7. ok, just let me know if you decide to do that. based on the last couple months, i have a feeling it won't be going anywhere anytime soon ^_^
  8.
this is such an amazing deal that I'm pretty sure it'll be gone by then.... ah well! good luck
ha, you'd think, right? It's been for sale since march (not on basschat), and been at this price since april. but thanks anyways
  9.
holy crap! I'll talk to my band! Thats one hell of a deal, there! How is the sound quality to you? I mean, obviously sometimes it's about the way you recrord, but how abot the effects? Especially the reverb (if it has any) on vocals. oh and does it have an any akai deep impact settings?
haha no, no deep impact settings...i wish! ^_^ the reverb, compression, eq, and delay effects are all very good and very adjustable -- some of the other built in effects are a bit less so, however i'm not sure if that may have been fixed in later software revisions as i've never updated it. the sound quality is excellent though, what you put in is what you get out. any other questions just let me know
  10. bump. still for sale, make an offer!
  11.
Really fascinating and informative photo journal. Should give the home recording crowd real pause for thought about the usual, "These days you don't need a studio" claims. May be you don't need one, but great live rooms are nothing like normal room construction, and as such you can not compete in a home studio IMO. Unless the engineer is a moron of course
+1 on the room, although you still don't need a studio for that -- and of course it depends what your definition of a "home" studio is seriously though, it's nice to see a studio designed by someone who actually knows what they're doing, rather than just thinks they know what they're doing -- the latter seems to be the popular trend nowadays. it's looking good, am following this with interest.
  12.
Get a Big One
+1 simplest answer.
  13.
I had a similar think a year or so ago and found that, wait for it, it was the printer on my USB hub that was causing the problem. This caused a ground loop and when the printer, the speakers and my bass amp were all on at once it all went to hell. The solution was to tidy up the power sockets and move everything onto two 4 way splits. Like I say, a strange sollution but hopefully it works for you. G
+1 i would also tend to think it's a grounding issue, it happens to mine as well sometimes, depending on how i have things connected.
  14.
nah aparently it has 4 el34s/6l6s/6550s in the power amp check the bias sheet
wow, didn't realize. fail. they must be measuring peak power again, or.....lying? ^_^
  15.
Interesting physics happening inside that amp too - 2400watts input gives a more than lossless 3800watts output?
3600 watts is the 'peak' power. anyone's guess what the RMS power is, depending on how they measure 'peak' it could be an RMS anywhere between about 100 watts and up. companies which measure peak power usually have something to hide. also, as far as i can tell, the 550-watt 'tube' amp has a tube pre-amp, and a SS power amp. having said that, considering no one here has actually TRIED these amps, i think we should at least give them a chance -- lest we fall into the same category of speculation we so tend to despise others for! I do like the look of some of their guitar heads, for the price, so who knows?
  16. not seen that before, but it looks good. i like that you can use it as a control surface as well.
  17.
I record at 16bit 44100kHz to keep file sizes down and I hear little difference at the end of the day from 24bit. 16/44.1 gives less headroom when mixing than say 24/96 but uses a lot fewer CPU cycles which means I can keep my buffers smaller.
no less headroom, just a higher noise floor. listen carefully and the effects of mixing at 16 bit, ie cumulative dither and truncation noise, come through. in this sort of environment it probably makes little difference though.
  18. sounds like a power supply problem -- is it a 50Hz or 100Hz hum? most likely either a loose or faulty filtering capacitor, although it could be other things. times like this it's handy to have an oscilloscope the good news is it should be fairly simple (read: cheap) to fix.

    I'm off to NZ.

best of luck CK, really hope things work out for you. be sure to come back, yea?
  20.
What more do you need?
i have two green LED's that flash back and forth at whatever speed the built-in phaser is set at. WIN. edit: also, the HH logo lights up bright red. sound doesn't matter, it's all about how bada*s it LOOKS on a dark stage ^_^
  21.
Heh - I just got an email from their keyboard player, who says that she can't really think of anything that she would like to sound like, but she wants her parts to sound full, crisp and clear. I'm kind of wondering what the alternative would be?
this?
  22. i occasionally used to use a behringer 2x10 combo amp at the place where we practice -- what an awful amp. easily outdone in both power and tone by the ashdown bass mini-rig i had at the time, which isn't saying a lot really.
  23. real men use 4 mm2
  24.
Really? That's insane. I would have thought it would be common sense.
me too. but then i suppose some people don't have any common sense! besides, a lot of the studio types i've met tend to be a bit set in their ways sometimes.
