Thanks all and food for thought certainly. Dave, I notice that you happen to have your Streamliner up for sale. Send me a PM if you still want to sell and I will certainly consider yours!
It is still for sale, all the details are in the add. To be honest I keep changing my mind so I'm not actively pushing to sell it now, I'm just going to see what happens but I'd anyone does want it I'm happy to sell. It's a great amp but quite a bit different from my usual MB heads. When it works it works very well but at some gigs I'm finding a more solid state amp works better, especially one whith more EQ for the trickier gigs.
Opinions like the ones expressed here seem a little silly, when she could probably outplay most of us at any given genre. *edit: I didn't mean that. I just meant... imagine yourself on stage next to Tal in front of Jeff Beck, and you're asked to take a solo. She's definitely on it. What does your opinion matter at this point?
Well ive already stated i think she has talent, its the music i didnt like, and yes, she could outplay me with just one broken finger but so could most people on here. I've heard some fantastic playing from members on here that have been much more enjoyable but that doesn't make Tal's playing any less impressive to others. I admit i do have a problem with virtuoso bass playing like in the video posted, i think its boring, and clichéd, a bit like slap. And i count Jaco, wooten etc in with that lot as well, just so you know where im coming from.

Looking forward to it. This might be the push i need to get one as well to replace my 1212L
What depresses me most (and I've been guilty of this too) is the negativity that is always expressed when someone posts a clip of a player they like, be it Tal or anyone else. Enjoy. Or don't. It's that simple.
Thats called having a different opinion and if people dont want other opinion (and im sure they do) they really shouldn't post on a public web forum.

Thomanns have these in stock now but the price is £867. Thats about what i paid for a MIA this time last year. Its also £200 dearer than the 50's version.

She can certainly play but that clip, at least, left me feeling just how bland that type of playing it. She is a women so she stands out a bit from the crowd (fact, not a sexist remark) but her playing doesn't. She is certainly no Gail Ann Dorsey IMO.
Probably the shop mentioned in this SOS article. I had a Crumar Bit One and had wondered why some of them on eBay were labelled 'Chase' until I read the article: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug98/articles/crumar.html I don't know the shop, being a Northerner.
Yes, thats the shop, i also had a Bit one from them. I was mixing up the name of the manufacture with the name of the shop. Cheers. Another bit of my past has fallen in to place. -
Not many shops out there that would appreciate someone playing loud, heavy rock through a variety of 500W amps into a Barefaced cab just to see what it sounds like when playing on their own, with no band around them to supply a mix. @ the OP, you'd be better off trying to borrow (or rent) amps from other local BC-ers for single gigs to see which one comes closest to what you want.
The good one's wont mind if someone takes a cab in. No need to play at full volume.
A visit to the shops is in order me thinks. Try some out & see if you can return if not happy. You could always buy 2nd hand off here & if you're not happy with what you get, swap for something else.
Good advice, and ill add take your own cab to the shop to get a better idea of how the amps sound.

Yep, best of luck. Hope it goes well.

Nice one, looking forward to your views.

Having owned a SA450 and LMII for a few years, and now having a F1 and GB Streamliner i would say the F1/F500 might not be ideal, based on the needs stated. All great heads but the LMII/III are a bit warmer and thicker than the F1/F500. There isnt a lot in it but its definitely there. The statement about the LMII/III not seeming to give the same power output is right IMO, but the key word is seemingly. As Mark suggested, have a look in to the GB Streamliner as well. I have a Streamliner 600 and it sounds like it might be ideal. Its has 3 tubes and a very thick, but not muddy low end. What struck me when i first played mine was how much punch it produced on the higher notes. Its very articulated compared to the MB heads, and having played both F1 and Streamliner on a couple of gigs (1 per set) the Streamliner just seems to fill the mix out, it had more presence. It also has a nice smooth overdrive if needed, with nothing digital sounding about it, although i only use that on a few songs and its no replacement for a distortion pedal.

Cheers Chris, thanks for the heads up. Ill change my vote to Streamliner and BFC now ;-)

Shuttle + Barefaced gets my vote as well ;-)

Ive always used a one cab solution and it works for me but i do find that at quiet levels the cabs sound better than when pushed, even moderately. My current 1212L (2 drivers) doesnt seem to change character too much but some of the one speaker cabs ive had have sounded a bit more aggressive/dirty when played at gig volume, not ideal if your going for a clean tone.

FS/FT. Genz Benz Streamliner 600. NOW SOLD
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
It worked really well on sat (another Marquee). Im now going to knock the Shuttle 6 trade option on the head unless its a Max. Im still happy to sell it, im also happy to keep it Although this week its great i dont think ill ever be 100% happy with it, and still really want a F500 so im just going to see what happens. -
I totally disagree. It's a different sound, I wouldn't say either one was "better" though. Dave, I'm really surprised that you found the RB thin sounding, I've had the 700 and the 2001 and both were anything but thin. GK are known to be good on the volume front too, maybe there was a fault with the one you tried or the cab?
Im only comparing it to my SA450, rather than saying its thin in general. I did a gig where i used both heads, one per set in to a Epifani UL212 cab. The GK went first and while it sounded good, nice low end and bright up top i found when i switched to the SA450 my tone became thicker, with more punch and an over all roundness the GK just couldn't get. Neither was a bad tone, just one sounded better to my ears than the other. Oh, and one weighed a hell of a lot less as well. I got the GK as it was rated higher than my SA450 but i never felt i could push it without it getting dirty.
I think MB gear is a few levels up on GK, but If you like the GK sound, then sure, good move.
I agree. I tried to replace my SA450 with a GK1001RBII a few years ago but found the GK both quieter and thinner sounding. I've not tried thier cabs though.
