I can see where the OP is coming from here. Personally i would be a bit miffed as well, no matter how nice it looks. I would speak to the seller to let him know my concern, maybe get some money back, but probably keep the bass IF it sounded, played and looked good. Going by those pics it certainly looks very nice (but then again, so do the Sue Ryder basses ) but if i wasnt 100% with the bass itself, and feeling a bit done over as far as being told it was one thing and it isn't, i would take it back before my brain made it in to something a lot bigger than it is.

Deleting posts and provenance of equipment sold on BC
dave_bass5 replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
Too lazy to read all of this thread (soz!). But I'm guessing that people delete all of the background 'blurb' in sales threads so that potential buyers don't have to scroll to the last page to find out whether the product in question has been sold. I.e. it avoids people checking out the first page then sending the seller a PM asking whether it's still for sale.
You only need to edit the title of the thread or the first post to read "Sold" or whatever, you dont need ot delete anything. Anyone who can be bothered to read the thread title, or figure out what sold means will know its been sold, not that that stops people from expecting it to still be available :-) -
Deleting posts and provenance of equipment sold on BC
dave_bass5 replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
I would prefer to be able trace the history of anything i buy on here if possible. I know most of us dont try and rip others off but I sold a bass on here a couple of years ago and was asked to remove the price by the buyer. I was happy to do that as it was done and dusted. Then it turns up a month or so later for quite a bit more than i sold it for but of course i couldn't say anything. I know its down to the seller to name a price and nothing to do with me but to ask me to take my price down first left a bitter taste. -
There are a few threads around about these basses. I had a Ray34 and loved it apart from the neck, it was just a bit too wide for my tastes as i cant get on with P sized necks, so im getting one of the new Ray34 CA basses when they come out and the price drops a bit. According to the 2011 Catalogue SBMM will only be doing a Ray34 in LH. A couple of my threads on the Ray34. For me it's ideal. I do all my playing at home whilst sitting at my PC.

Thanks, it does look useful. After a disastrous gig on Sat i really need to go back and learn some of the basics again, this looks ideal.

I love my CV necks, even the P neck that i cant play lol. These necks have vintage style frets so for me are very fast and easy to play. I've been thinking of getting a MM neck at some point but i really cant find a fault with the CV necks. No loose, high frets, nice and smooth on the back with no lumps etc. Tone wise im not sure if a MM (or any other neck) would make much difference, i can say that swapping the P and Jazz neck's over made no difference to the tone on either body.
The Standing in the Shadows of Motown DVD is also well worth a look.......watching Babbit play is a treat and watching him cry as his fellow Funk Brothers say they would have taken a bullet for him during the riots in Detroit is extremely moving. s
+ 1. Love this DVD. Michael, If you dont have it yet drop me a PM and you can borrow my copy. Well worth seeing.
If I do manage to get the readies together I might ask darren if he could get it to the bass guitar show in london next weekend dave, if your going down your welcome to spend some time with it
Great idea and thanks but i wont be going. Im away all sat on a gig (long distance wedding) and will need to catch up with the family stuff on the sunday. To be honest im not really into going to shows, i get board very easily unless there are loads of scantily clad women around ;-) No, you lot in thongs and a BC T-shirt doesn't count

Hmmm. Ive just checked the Soundslive website and they are doing the old Ray34 for almost £80 less than the Bass merchant. Considering the CA is supposed to cost almost the same as the older model i think we will see it cheaper once it becomes more readily available. The question is can i wait that long lol. I must admit to wandering in to the "real" MM Classic section and did like the look of some of those but with the wider neck and higher price tag i know what ill be getting.
P-Retro is a great bit of kit if you are after an active P-Bass. I kept it in the bass for about 6 months but I never actually turned it on to 'active' during any gig, so I ended up taking it out. I'm just really used to and comfortable with a passive P-Bass. It could work really well for you if you change your sound during the gig or mid-song. I'm very much a one-sound-fits all player for gigs! I made some comparison recordings that you can access on the BGM website here. Andrew
Thanks for a great website. Very useful and great reading. I was just reading your review and was going to ask how it went with the P-retro. Your article had almost sold me on getting one for my CV P but after reading the above comment im now thinking im pretty much the same as you (definitely not in the playing sense though, im miles behind that) I tend to stick to one tone during gigs, other than to roll off the tone on the bass every now and then, and im not sure even that makes a huge difference.
No chance. I get to stand behind Sian and Abi while they shake their collective booties... I ain't swapping my view for nothin'.
Selfish bugger
I think that is an accurate description of most bassists who are still in bands (bands with guitars that is).
yep. same story for me. How about a Bass chat band swap, that could be interesting.

Squier P/Neck Jazz body compatability
dave_bass5 replied to Dudgeman's topic in Repairs and Technical
Just to add another positive reply. My Squier CV P has my CV jazz neck on it and its a perfect fit. Then again, both are from the same range. -
Just to echo the other posts here, i brought the best smelling strap ive ever owned off Fran last week. Arrived quickly and in perfect condition. Cheers mate.

dave_bass5 replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Site News
Im only having grief with Safari on my ipod now. Looks like everything else is working fine for me. -
Im still not sure if i would use chorus a lot so im going to play safe and get a EH Neo small clone for now, at least until i can see how much ill use it. Still interested in any reviews though, it looks like a very good unit.
For a traditional P-Bass sound but with a tad more growl and clarity, the Lindy Fralin pickups are top notch (although you'll have to get em from the US).
Agreed. Best P pup ive ever used but also the dearest. Almost 2 1/2 times the cost of my Thumper.
