  1. Thanks. Have done that and checked the "do not send me notifications" box and it makes no difference.
  2. Thank you. I see, on opening the notifications section, that the default is to send notifications/pop-ups on every thread and that you have to disable this individually on every one if you post on it. There is no global disable option. That's a faff. Think I shall be a lot more circumspect about using this forum in future. Cheerio all.
  3. Despite disabling notifications in the notification settings (and saving my preference), I still get the annoying little pop-up at the bottom of the screen every time someone posts on a thread to which I've added a comment. Anyone know how to stop this? It's driving me up the wall.
  4. Agree with Yank for the most part. I did a winter in Meribel many moons ago. Good fun. You need to view it purely as an earner. Unless you're accomplished skier, I'd resist trying to blag a ski pass/use the facilities. If you fall and injure yourself and cannot play, it's work out of the window. Most punters will be plastered/semi-plastered and will want to sing along and dance to whatever is popular, so don't be precious about material. High art it ain't... As long as you keep them in the place and drinking plenty, the venue owner will be happy.
  5. If you're spending that kind of money, go and try some and ignore us. We all suffer from confirmation bias. I bought my present head after comparing it with others. It was one I hadn't even considered prior to trying it.
  6. Those headstocks by Overwater et al are fine. Form following function - straight string pull, decent break angle over the nut, not overly large/heavy (and therefore less risk of neck dive). It's an instrument, not a fashion accessory after all.
  7. I wonder if the fact that it seems to apply to MIM basses may be due to the fact that they are made in a country with a hot dry climate. Bringing them to Blighty, with our colder conditions and higher humidity, may cause an issue due to the different rates of expansion in the woods of the skunk stripe and neck.
  8. Agreed. I like the way they sound, too, but have to concede they are not immediately impressive. Often, stuff that is impressive on its own has been designed that way for showroom appeal (a reason I think one sees such a large amount of recent, expensive kit for sale - people find it isn't so good in real world conditions).
  9. Seems most makers try to either copy the Fender design/devise something practical or be original. The second approach often results in ghastliness. I prefer it when form follows function - straight string pull, no odd angles, keep it simple.
  10. "Wall hangers"? Oh dear...
  11. This +10. Applies not only to bass, but to all instruments. It's how it blends and works with what else is happening that counts. Interesting cross reference to the debate about Markbass cabs going on currently. They work in a band context, even though they may sound a little dull on their own.
  12. Did you lean it against the radiator and melt it?
  13. True, but it's all behind him. Donald Trump is worth a shedload of cash, but that doesn't say a lot about his qualities...
  14. Better to simplify the part and devise something that is musically correct that works in a band context than to play the "right notes but not necessarily in the right order". You can always work on getting closer to the original as time goes by.
  15. Afraid he's a has-been trying desperately to stay in the limelight.
  16. Another Peavey fan here. I think the main reason is that their Black Widow drive units were (can you still get them?) so good. I replaced the crappy Fender drivers in my old Bassman 2x15 cab with them and the improvement was massive. When I got my TE AH350 in the 80s, the sound of it with the cab was fabulous. Bulky and heavy rig, but wonderful sound.
  17. As a drive unit is a drive unit and a watt is a watt, I suspect you'll be fine...
  18. Appreciate that, but I find it simpler to have one of each.
  19. I feel your pain. To be fair, they aren't all like that. I know of two blues jams locally to me which are run by good musicians where the backline amps for guitars are small (30w or so) and most people can actually play. There are the inevitable duffers who show, but they do their two party pieces and are tolerated with good humour.
  20. Why are you in a band with a plonker like hat? Suggest you leave immediately.
  21. I have a Mex PJ and it doesn't really do the heavy, thick P bass sound. An approximation of it, but not quite the same. It's very versatile, however and does J tone as Marc says.
  22. I never speak to guitar players unless absolutely necessary, so wouldn't have bothered me
  23. Why try to make a J more like a P when you already have a P? Horses for courses and all that.
  24. Me too. Fusion often have special offers, too, so you may save money.
  25. As most basses are fretted, the majority of us needn't worry about the difference between C# and Db because there ain't one for our purposes.
