1. do consider also that EB may not be the only people with IP rights over the general 4+1, 3+1 designs - there could be other manufactuers or one man band operations out there who hold rights on a variant. I must admit I didnt know what manufacturer you were talking about, and dont know what your design looks like. A lot depends on just how much like the original it is.
 2.
I've come up with a unique headstock design that is getting a far bit of attention and a lot suggestions to copyright it. Basically I took a standard design from a very well known licenced reproduction and converted it to my needs. I've had a look on copyrightservice.co.uk and my design seems to meet the criteria. The thing is, I'm not sure exactly what it is I need to copyright. I mean can you copyright holes? Am I constrained by the precise dimensions of my design or is it the concept (I'd much prefer this) that I need to protect?
I have a shiny LLB (Hons) from the best Law university after Oxford and Cambridge. I did my dissertation in Intellectual Property, but will have to give your question some thought as Design Rights (which is actually what this is) isnt a major part of the Syllabus. It kind of depends what you've changed and how close you are can you PM me and I'll send you an email address to send some JPegS to ? I think the worst you might get is a CAD (Cease and Desist) letter as a warning but thats often a putoff.
 3. I started off on guitar, then drifted off as my hands were too clumsy. I've now sold all my guitars and just have two basses. I too, as another poster commented, listen to all the instruments.
 4. Vintage Stingray copy CIJ 62 Ri jazz in s3b they do it all so dont need more.
 5. I have a Vintage Stingray copy - its a nice instrument that plays well. Only complaint is that it isnt very loud , despite being active - my CIJ jazz is actually louder.
 6.
Thanks Guys Eventually bit the bullet and checked with my Daughter (well about time she realised that Santa wasn't real!) and she seems happy (hard to tell at her age - don't tell me its because she is a bassist!!) with the zoom.
I have one, its great, with the drum machine, tuner and amp modelling. Quite sturdy enough for most uses.
 7.
I liked the active 5 string (AVB??) and they made a really good passive MAB 5 string too.
MAB-20 I think - if its the same one. I regret selling it now
 8. it is a bit 80's looking for my taste I did have an Aria Magna, which was a lovely bass.
 9. its the only jazz bass I've really played so I cant tell if its sounding thin or not. Its doesnt sound particularly thin. I'm comparing it to a active Stingray copy and its louder than that. I did the foil shielding last night, and my zoom's noise reduction now kills the noise at setting 6 to 7 rather than at 9, so it has made a difference. Didnt notice a change in tone, as some assert occurs. Please do also note that I havent checked the shielding fully for continuity as my multimeter died. Its also possible that some of the common causes such as being near a light switch, dodgy lead may still apply.
 10.
Because if it was because they were single-coil the noise wouldn't be dependent on the setting of the bass's volume controls. I may be wrong but the way I read Geek's post it was only a problem when they weren't fully on.
exactly correct. Its pretty much equally noisy all the time. I wouldnt want to play a gig (ie gig volume) with it as noisy as it is, yet people use Jazz basses in gigs all the time. I know that there is some noise from a single coil, but I think I have an abnormal quantity of it. the noise disappears when they are at equal volume, regardless of whether that is full volume. I'm not sure that you two arent arguing the same point really.
 11. Just took delivery of the copper tape (the conductive glue stuff mentioned in another thread) - will report.
 12. mine (a 62 Reissue CIJ) is connected to the bridge, I'm interested to hear that adhesive copper has reduced your hum levels as I took delivery of some copper tape just today and was wondering how much difference it would really make. .
 13.
The Japanese Fenders are pretty good, if you can try one of them before you make a decision, you should.
yes, very underrated in my (owner) opinion.

 15. I would have bought the VMJ - it was just pipped by a cheap CIJ 62 reissue off OldGit of this parish. My only regret is the pickup noise but it does have a wider range of tones as you said and its easy to get close to PBass tone with a Zoom unit.
 16. I have a Vintage Stingray copy and I've changed the battery once in 3 years. Duracell+ as it happens. The cheap alkalines form teh PoundShop last just as well in my active guitar though so I dont think its the brand. Just remember to unplug and they last for ages.

 18. has anyone had this buzz problem on a jazz (when one pickup isnt on full) and actually solved it with copper foil?
 19. This would have helped me when I was buying recently. We'd have to make sure the sounds were through a failry "neutral" amp though.
 20.
Playing the bass is still very new to me but I look forward to getting home and playing for about an hour or so. iI really takes my mind of things and I feel it helps. However, I do get frustrated sometimes as I really do need to sort some kind of tuition out as I rely way too much on learning by TAB and I end up playing the same songs over and over again. I am sure my technique needs some sorting out.
I think thats true of most people.

 22.
I'm in love with the 75RI also. I've messed about quite a bit with different jazzers in shops and actually really fancy a Marcus Miller version. They are MIJ, but each one I have played is faultless. I've had a Jap jazz (62RI) which I bought from Japan which was my first intro to Jap Fenders and in my opinion they are great.
I have that same jap jazz 62 RI in 3SB and its very nice indeed.

 24.
Hi Folks, It's been a busy week (as per usual) and sometimes when it all gets too stressful, the first thing I think of when going home that I know will chill me out is picking up a bass and having a noodle around for half an hour! But it doesn't usually pan out that way because the first thing that happens when I walk through the door is kids/family mayhem etc, etc, and quite rightly so as they come first. Which means I tend to skulk around much later on practicing the bass with the headphones on, which is never quite the same thing. Is it just me with this scenario or does this sound all too familiar to anyone else?? Nik
No, thats exactly what happens to me (although my partner is supportive too). I snatch ten minutes here and there.
