1. I know it feels as I'm in a similar boat, I also tried stand by me, but found the off beat bit tricky as a relative newbie - I get very very little practice time What I found helpful was buying a drum machine to jam along with. You can decent online ones too. Record yourself If you can - the good bits are a good confidence boost As someone else observed - listen to the bass in songs - I try to imagine bass that i would put in there, even if I can't actually play it yet Listen to the guitar and imagine what you'd play behind it and how you'd change the sound
2. I'd like it next please - someone please PM me when one of the copies is available ? Thanks
3. I've owned one of these and it's a nice bass I sold it on eBay for more than the poster is asking so this is a good price IMHO
4. I'm at a low level technically due to time constraints, so listening to John McVie, Duff, Adam Clayton**, Bruce Thomas and James Jamerson - I appreciate them even if I cant play much of it yet. ** I know I'll get slagged for this, just need some easy stuff to start with that fits against simple drum patterns
5. The guys at the manchester store couldnt be more helpful, they even sent on by post my daughter's bear that she'd dropped behind an amp.
6.
Drum machine (Alesis SR16) and a couple of books/Dvd's for me. Victor Wooten Groove Workshop + the Music Lesson Plus The Slap Bass Program by Alex Sklarevski.
Nice sounds but not the easiest to program. Be warned there is no way that I have ever found to associate a drum kit setup with a particular patch.
7. I got something I chose myself from on here, a five string fanned fret shortscale prose bass. The only downer about it is that its EADGC not BEADG as I thought. I also got a bag of picks with the kids photos on them.
8. Is anyone in touch with him ? I would like to ask him a question about one of his creations Thanks
9. My export cij jazz is superb
10. Can someone recommend something I can use for this purpose ? Just bought an e a d g c shortie and need to change to b e a d g Scale length is a bit variable as its fanned fret Thanks
11. I have a CIJ export 62 reissue - i always wanted a sunburst one and I bought this one from OldGit back in 2008. I really wanted one with pearloid blocks but this was at a good price. I like it because it has a nice slim (and narrow) neck and I couldnt get on with P basses for this reason. Some kind soul put old style anti clockwise elephant ear tuners on before I got it. I upgraded it with a tort plate and some split coil humbuckers from matte_black as the original coils were so noisy. In series they give a nice fat sound. Pantherairsoft has tried it.
12. I've got a hartke hydrive, which is quite pretty with its shiny aluminium cones and grille and blue lights. I keep it in the house just to annoy my teenage stepson whose stereo cant compete for bass. Also my two year old daughter loves plugging in my Jazz and twanging away. Couldnt really do either with a plugin tool like IRig
13. Ok - talk about it after Xmas when th dust has settled a little
14. Its a Prose Bass custom - Paul Rose attended the 2009 bass bash. I never thought I would own one.
15. Damn - just come back from cardiff
16. I have a fanned fret 5 string shortie that you can try (but only after Xmas as its embargoed until then)
17.
There are none, unless you want to look at a small & uninspiring array of Fenders & Stingrays, a few Ibanez and a load of cheap copies.
Better than nothing as far as I'm concerned
18. hi In cardiff this weekend, with my "gar" and drums-mad daughter, any recommendations for decent shops ? (Preferably those that are at least tolerant of supervised small children and view them as future customers) - staying in Premier Inn in the city thanks
19. Wow pretty ! If I hadn't bought a fanned fret 5 string I'd have this in a heartbeat Happy birthday btw

iPhone usage

Can anyone tell me if there's a way to jump to the end of a long multi page topic when using an iPhone ? Don't want to "next" all the way through each time I read Thanks
21. I'm still learning and so I'm drawing a distinction between " riffs that I figured out the notes for" and things that I can actually play in time properly and so the last thing I learned properly is the chain, basic I know but you have to start somewhere
22. thanks to all, particularly Cytania. I disagree with Mog, some people, like my mother, can pick out a tune on a broken guitar with no strings, I'm not one of them, is what I meant. I've recorded a drum track to mp3 as discussed earlier - I just keep getting "upload failed" - any ideas? Error 413 (I think), tried both basic and advanced loaders
23. It's not exactly intuitive but if you read the manual it's all there
24. My little daughter loved your shop, she always walks in shouting "gars!" at the top of her voice
25. Ok following on from what Yorick and the lovely chlo say, I'm going to set my alesis sr16 to bass drum on beats 1 and 3 and 3+ and snare on 2 and 4 and 4+ but I'm also going to leave every alternate bar as just bass drum on 1 so I can check if I'm back on the 1 at the start of the next bar** And record it ** toddler permitting
