1. in my very humble opinion, anything that gets people playing and sounding even vaguely good is worthwhile. Yes, knowing your scales is important for understanding why something works, but it can come along second; confidence and enjoyment should come along first; otherwise learners lose heart very quickly.
2. Just listened for two minutes or so; will listen more in my break but it seems pretty good. Certainly possible to apply it to bass as well as The Dark Side
3.
Joe Pasquale squeaks very highly of him....
fixed it for you...
4.
Was trying to play something the other day and it was jumping all over the neck so basically i was getting a bit lost so i found some sticky dots and numberd my frets 1 to 12 the stickers are behind the neck nobody can see then except me the difference to my speed, being able to find the notes im looking for is so much more quicker im now hitting the notes right and there sounding like the should ie not humming ,ringing etc im able to concentrate more on gettint the notes sharp getting my fingers in the right position, but lol my daughter who i take classes with (shes only 12) says im cheating and is giving me a slagging should i take them off.dots that is honestly they make a hell of a difference to my playing.cheers stuart.
I cant imagine why you'd feel quilty about this. If it helps, do it, and only take them off when you are sure you dont need them any more.
5. I wouldn't risk it - my experience with various classes of U.S. visa is that they take infractions very seriously and you don't muck about with them. The venues could get into trouble too They take biometrics on the way in and if you get caught they'll match it up and you'll be prevented from entering the country ever again. I saw someone get turned back at passport control when I last visited there.
6. I've had one of these and it was totally brilliant
7. Lozz Please let me know how you get on. As a 70s p owner your opinion is of great interest
8. When I get some spare cash, Dave....
9. Please do - most interested
10.
That`s great to hear, thanks, just ordered myself one for my backup bass, make it sound more like my main one.
Yes I intend to get one when funds allow. He did however note that ash bodies would affect the sound slightly too. I gave him a sound example of a 73 sunburst P
11.
None of the B-52's are actually 52 years old.
No - they look older
12. If my three year old can play one without difficulty (other than the stretches) then most people can adapt quickly. It took me literally five minutes to stop looking at the board. I regret letting it go.
13. The Arctic Monkeys are not real monkeys.
14.
you know,Id swear that 'not' ^^ wasn't there earlier
No, i havent edited the post at all. A date and time would be shown if I had done so. Look at the post above mine for an example "Edited by yorks5stringer, Yesterday, 01:32 PM." Plant being the play on words with vegetarianism, why is Morrissey a raving carnivore?
15.
To my old eyes that Stentor looks pretty good, what do you all think? http://images.guitarbitz.com/images/products/1308066781-32648000.jpg
It's not very red in that pic....looks almost like brown tort
16. But not a jazz mag...
17. Robert Plant is, rather surprisingly, not a vegetarian.
18. consider a short scale, but first get medical advice.I got this stiffness when I had carpal tunnel syndrome and simple injection cured it.
19.
Thanks for the info, I hadn't thought about truss rods! the neck I have on order has heal adjustment and the body doesn't have an access slot
Just cut one in and sand it smooth No biggie
20.
Another question for P Bass experts: What is the difference between scratchplates on US, Mex and Squier's etc? is it just the position of the screw holes? I have no idea what make or model the body I've got is.
My belief is that US ones tend to have a recess cut in the plate at the heel for adjustment whereas jap and mim ones dont. The screw holes do tend to vary slightly
21.
To me they seem to lose some mids, and increase clarity on top and bottom end. My 78 sounds a bit like this, wonder if these pickups are intended to sound more 70s (as another Basschatter mentioned that 70s Precisions seem to be more scooped than other models).
Dave did recommend the thumper to me as I was after a 70s p bass sound so you're probably right
22. He did - we had an informative discussion about the two kinds of red tort available from WD, the more expensive stuff was more realistic but he could not justify buying a big sheet unless two people wanted plates at same time.
23. Can certainly hear the increased clarity
24. Lust ... That's a very nice relic
25. Ah. It's lucky that we don't tease people round here...
