Quite surprised no one has mentioned strings yet. Do you have rounds or flats on there? Flats would make it less bright
The original poster did, in his original post "I've already tried flatwounds on it (which I didn't really like), and pure nickel strings, neither of which had that much of an efffect." there will be a test later, lollipops for those who score high

Jazz basses can sound like that - I recommend split coil humbukcers in jazz bass dimensions -bonus is they'll be quiet
-
That I did not know, thank you Perhaps I'll post the riff as I see it here and you kind folks can constructively criticise it
-
Thanks - I was referring to the tab sites with regard to being flamed. I've seen some fruity comments there and I'm really not in the right place for getting some

You can stick a brass plate on the headstock; I used to use a guitar one called a fathead Here you go http://www.guitarsite.com/newsletters/990816/10.shtml

Copper plates on the back on pickups
Geek99 replied to EliasMooseblaster's topic in General Discussion
I purposely put one in my 75 replica - it has el cheapo internet pickups; everyone loves the sound and it's totally quiet noise-wise so either the copper plate adds something in sound, mass or resonance or it's a totally amazing bass anyway and adds nothing. It doesn't harm it; so I suggest putting it in. It was good enough for Leo -
Isn't John east a member on here ?

I just don't want to get flamed, but I honestly don't think it can be any worse than the one that was there. There simply weren't enough notes to be even close. what was it ? Pretty small beer for the gigging uber-fretmeisters around here, but for me (kids, long hours at work, no practice time at home), a significant win; "silver and gold" off U2 rattle and Hum album, including all the staccato notes, the riff and the slides.

i keep a bass in my car, if I get time at luncthime I go out and practice
-
i keep a bass in my car in the hope that one day, I will get some child free practice time in my-ever-shorter lunch break. It rarely happens, but today it did and I looked up the bass tab for a song I listened to on the way in to work this morning. It looked wrong and it truly was once I tried it. It was woeful. Bu tthen I figured it out, and I can count on the fingers on hand the number of times I have done this successfully, but today I did it. I'm toying wih the idea of uploading my correct-er version.
I don't understand open mic nights. Getting up with some random musicians playing random stuff would be my worst nightmare
i find it hugely exciting for the spontaneity. You get chatting to someone , narrow it down to a few titles that you both can live with, knock it through twice in thr corridor and do it as best you can. Its a real challenge and if people tap their, feet, dance, say they lked it then thats a huge bonus
Some 'Old People' pass-times I've noticed are; Driving very slowly, especially during rush hour. Paying for the weekly shop in 2p pieces. Asking for a full ingredients and cooking process breakdown whilst ordering a pub lunch. These all look like splendid fun.
You forgot "being rude to the nice lady in the post office/supermarket/pharmacy about things that aren't actually their fault"

I did have a tutor and I would do it again. I don't have time at the moment but one day.... They spot things that you didnt notice (I swing when leading with my index finger, but am rock solid with my middle finger) and they do boost your confidence. One told me, when I was at a low point, that I was actually much better than I thought I was. We had just knocked out a scratch version of "Stand by Me" and despite never playing it before, I kept it together all the way though albeit with a couple of thin spots. Because he was also a "good enough" drummer and guitarist he was able to quickly put together a scratch backing track and email it afterwards, so it was all very customised; however as Coilte says, it was to be the right teacher for you.
Following this topic starting, I emailed him yesterday because as usual I'm late to the party. I would really like a relic '63 P and left handed at that. I had just got around to a bit of serious research and his name came up. I got a very nice replay this morning to say that he is moving to another part of the country so is only working on projects he already has in hand in order to finish them before he moves. It was unclear whether he will start again once he has moved, but as he suggested he was moving his workshop too it seems likely. I've asked him to let me know when he is in a position to take fresh orders, but I fear this may be a while away.
He did say on his site that he doesn't do left handers ; perhaps he has changed policy
