1. oh they were fine - apart from that droning song about George Bush I just meant that I thought it would be mobbed and it wasnt. Zutons were surprisingly bad.
2.
Yeah that's the one!
Spooky ! Surprised how poorly attended it was- we were on the pitch
3.
The Zutons, they were supporting REM who were absolutely brilliant
I think I was at a gig in that tour Notts forest ground
4.
Do you mean Daisy Duke?
Catherine Bach? She was daisy duke Barbara bach was in a roger Moore bond film
5. I'm assuming he doesn't need the money I always had serious hits for Barbara bach
6. We are quick to complain - we should also go out of our way to praise
7. No I dont think so. Its actually for keeping in the car for when I get practice time at work during lunchtime. P bass a bit of a handful in a 207 - so need to be quite small. Toying with the idea of the cheap build your own hohner style headless kits. Maybe I'm make it sunburst and relic for a joke
8.
I won't laugh at your expense; everyone has to start somewhere. Congrats on getting up in front of people!
yep know the feeling and right now as well- first time I tried it (in front of local church audience, most of whom work at my daughter's school, and I totally train-wrecked. I missed two nights due to commitments and barely played for three months. Last friday I was able to go. The host pointed to the house guitarist (as he himself had his hands full) and the HG suggested Johnny B Goode which I'd only heard a few times on the radio. After a quick run through in the hallway we went on and I honestly think none of then had knowingly heard a bass before - it had just been fairly a bit folky and acoustic, apart from a redhead doing a jazz flavoured version of "I will survive" which was quite enjoyable. I played a few notes of "all along the watchtower" to get host get my level through the PA and it was probably a bit loud as everyone looked around in shock. Apart from a brief memory loss moment ( I stopped, thought, counted, jumped back in on the 1), it went really well and the crowd went wild. Several people complimented me on tone and "that lovely old jazz bass" (its a battered sunburst & tort precision into a zoom B2 on just Ampeg SVT setting). Partner said "would you do it again?" "hell, yeah" I said. my advice - buy a cheap acoustic bass then you can rough ideas with people in a quiet corner; taking an electric doesnt work unless your amp is very portable and there is an AC outlet in that corner minor embarrasment point - i was wearing a belt, the tongue was sticking out from the buckle as they often do when you forget to tuck it into a belt loop. Redhead took a picture which looked exactly like I'd forgotten to zip up ...
9. Thinking about getting a travel bass - possibly sinsinido or hohner Any advice from owners or those who've tried this ? Thanks
10. Ups parcel drop off?
11.
Fixed that for ya
Thanks it it was a total surprise anyone even said anything - partner and kids (female) would be most upset at any inapprpriateness
12. Thanks I was going to simplify the flurries a little to cater for my meagre talent
13. I know it's not quite a pedalboard but I find a zoom b2.1 does it all
14.
Which OM was it, if you don't mind saying? I think we are fairly close to each other geographically.
All saints church in Huthwaite - I can hook you in if you want It's fairly social - not too clique-y
15. Thinking of trying suspicious minds as the host did that song on Friday nights OM with one of his students
16.
I too wondered what OM was. I figured it out after the first post. The couple I've been to seem to just be singer/songwriter type things, with singer/songwriters playing acoustic guitar singing about the usual.
That's about right where I go - I take my bass as I like to shake things up Thanks for the support folks - the school crossing guy asked if it was me - I hadn't spotted him in the audience He was most complimentary
17.
You can't beat a Zoom B2 as bit of an all rounder imo.
I really took it along for the tuner and as a sort of preamp but a high output pup in a p bass got their attention
18. Give me a break - it's something he had written out already and I had just met the guy got the first time that night. I've been there about eight times now and it's the first blues I've heard I was feeling pretty good about this until now
19. nice price ! Elle est tres belle, lagartixas
20. a nice redhead said I "sounded f&*(ing fantastic" - they don't get [s]many[/s] any loud precision basses there, I got roped in to play Johnny B Goode with an acoustic (but amped) guitarist and apart from a moment of memory loss in the second verse it went pretty well for something I've only ever heard on the radio. The host jumped in to play lead too. nice tone apparently (but likley helped a bit by my Zoom B2 on the ampeg setting). Quietly pleased.
