1. Don't know if op has seen my messages but is that a spalt maple top?
2. As a long-time short-scale player and advocate, I'd just add a word of caution: some SG type shortscales can feel a lot like a (very) long-scale as a result of strap pin positioning. Alembic SC types are a case in point (though absolutely my favourite basses by a mile). The Spector Shorty is a delight with fabulous ergonomics and a 22 fret board - I'm fortunate to have one and it gets more play than anything else. Not cheap though and the Warwick suggested above sounds like a brilliant alternative - hadn't seen these previously. Good luck to the OP - shorties can be a lot of fun and are very player friendly - a decent one will not imply any compromise in tone
3. I like this very much - thoughtful and individual customisation. Was all the custom work undertaken professionally?
4. I've had two of these and still have one (a five string). They're fantastic instruments - incredibly easy to play and good fun but with a full and characteristic Status tone - no compromise.
5. Bump for withdrawal (and to repeat apologies as in the initial post)
6. A lovely bass that I had the pleasure of playing when it was in the hands of another owner and Basschatter four or five years ago. From what I remember, the top is really lovely - is the truss rod cover still with the bass (I can't remember if it was plastic or wood)?
7. If you're going for a 70s bass, have a look at Capri Orange (with black screws in a white scratch plate!)
8. I'm genuinely surprised that this is still here - these are superb basses - hand-built to perfection. An extraordinarily good price!
9. Ooh...Mywatts are rather lovely though - the favourite of some guitarist friends of mine too! Just for clarity, the Limelight remains at £825 with the Spitfire guard (a thing of extraordinary beauty!) I'm rehearsing with the bass and gigging it tonight so possible re-appraisal tomorrow (I'm trying to remain resolute but struggling...)
10. Thanks Discreet, your clips are certainly better than anything that I can provide. Lots of interest but still here. Thanks for trade offers but looking for a sale only at this time
11. Sorry, no idea re pickups but they're fairly pokey and up-front - reminiscent of a US Lakland I had (Fralins I think in the latter). Thanks for all the very kind comments - I think this is a special bass
12. Quick update - I'm in Manchester for a couple of days and can bring the bass with me if there's any interest
13. Bump for images in first post (sorry, nothing like as good as those in links but at least you'll get a sense of what this looks like in the thread). I played this again today...Discreet, you're absolutely right - I'm struggling here and there just isn't another of these (like this one, anyway) around. I'm trying to remain resolute...I'll be in Birmingham tomorrow but could deliver to Manchester on Tuesday or Wednesday if there are any pre-Christmas takers. If we get beyond Christmas, I'm going to re-consider on the sales front
14. I'm really starting to wobble on this - I played it for an hour this morning and it's truly a bit lovely. I must be strong. I've tried to get an accurate weight but on bathroom scales, the best I can do is about 9.5lbs
15. All revealed when the FedEx van arrives! To address questions, I'd say the weight is a shade over 9lbs - I'll try to weigh accurately tomorrow
16.
As we all know nothing rids you of gas! Worse still I'm in your neck of the woods in the Midlands this week!!
you're very welcome to a beer/coffee and a try-out if you're around Birmingham centre?
17. Discreet - thanks very much indeed - this is both very kind and very helpul!
18.
Fighting the gas here now THAT jazz has popped up for sale
If it helps to exacerbate the gas, there's every chance I'll be in Manchester late this week or early next...
19. Thanks Dazed and Rumple - yes, a different bass (mine has a J neck).
20. With apologies to all that expressed an interest (and this bass caused quite a stir!), after a lot of thought and comparison with vintage Fenders, I've decided that it would be nuts to sell this bass. It really is an extraordinary instrument in terms of ergonomics, feel and playability, tone, utility and aesthetics. My apologies to all those that have been in communication - sorry to let you down. New price of £750 For sale after much thought and deliberation - the best Fender style bass I've owned or played. This is the bass specced by Discreet on BC and is probably still perceived as the 'reference' Limelight - see links for images - Discreet - I hope this is OK? Stunning relicing, massive J tone, and fantastic playability (set-up with D'Addario balanced tension nickel rounds). Comes with functional if well-used ABS shaped case and original saddles. The bass is wearing very nice brass saddles as the originals were seized and three are non functional. I'm selling only as I have something incredibly special and expensive on the way in. This really is a stunning player/looker in every way. The bass owes me just under £900 so I think the price is reasonable - I'm not looking at trades or offers thanks. Also available is a Spitfire pickguard (shown fitted to the bass in the images above) - this was imported at a cost of around £130. I'll throw it in for an extra £75. There's an image of the Limelight guard below (beautiful in its own right): this will be supplied with the bass at the £750 price. To summarise then, bass with original guard is £750, and bass with Spitfire and original guard is £825. Collection from West Midlands or can ship for around £15 without insurance (at buyers risk). Further images to come but I can't do better than Discreet - please see link below (post no. 9 has some fantastic images): http://basschat.co.u...melight-thread/
21. What an absolutely beautiful rig - very classy indeed. I miss my DB750,
22. Beautiful, I doubt many studio players on here haven't used one, but these are gorgeous for bass - three of the presets are eminently useable - very nice 'sit' in any mix and fantastic solidity for live use. Good price too!
