I finally got a 1990s MIK Squier Stratocaster. It's plywood, cheap and is just the job!
Yeh, I've had a S/H MIK Strat and a Tele, they were both very good instruments. They were not ply AFAIK, but they both played and sounded really nice. A bit of fettling, new nut, and a fret dress and I reckon most people would have trouble telling them from Mex and USA models. I had a CV Strat too, that was also excellent.
I never watch that rubbish. I hate poppy music!
How are you with your appreciation and knowledge of Bach?

Guitarists get a very hard time on Basschat and it is very unfair. It's actually a very difficult instrument to play well and with a meaningful level of expression. Much harder than bass. Don't underestimate how hard guitar can be to learn properly. Hopefully his experience on bass will help. 'Giving the guitar a go' sounds like underestimation But he sounds like he's a musical guy so he should be able to bypass the theoretical stuff and unlock the fretboard more quickly than a beginner.

Really good music and the singer's got a really sweet voice. And you are setting a high standard of commitment with the travel! Hope it's appreciated Congratulations!

Yep, they have had long enough and enough staff changes to get this right. They haven't.
Hi, I am on the look out for a new gig bag. Besides doing a good job at protecting my bass I also need one with a hanging hook and I was wondering if you could let me know if your bag has one or not. Thanks in advance for any information.
Warwick Premium Rockbags are superb in all ways. Great protection, metal hang loop, great straps, big pad with retaining strap for the neck near the headstock, lots of storage pockets. Very very durable. http://www.thomann.de/gb/rockbag_rb20705b_ebassgigbag.htm?gclid=CNbSv7upzbUCFeXLtAodqE0AjQ

No 'Brits were sh*t' thread this year That means they were either brilliant, or beneath contempt.
In my experience, no bridge betters the original in any way except being rough on your hand if you happen to play that way. So the design faults, in any meaningful sense, don't exist. If it's hurting your hand, change it. If it doesn't, don't waste your cash. PS I'd be willing to bet a large sum that no-one, ever, has ever been able to demonstrate any meaningful 'flexibility' in any fender supplied BBOT. Unless they used a hammer.
I don't like them, but they're ok. The Warwick bridge / tailpiece is one of the best designs IMO. I think top loading is so useful, you can take off the strings and put them back with so little effort. Doing that on a BBOT is a right pain. Leo did NOT get that right really.
Can someone explain the science as to why they would change your sound or sustain please?

A replacement bridge makes very little difference to the sound of a bass, IMHO. It may be the placebo effect, who knows? I'd get a replacement bridge only for cosmetic and/or aesthetic reasons. There is generally very little wrong with the stock bridge on a bass. Given the high price of some replacements, you'd be better off investing the money elsewhere. Again, IMHO.
I agree. The only reason I'd replace a bridge would be for adjustability.
I actually read of an interview with a basist from a punk band - can`t remember which - and when he turned up at the studio one day, the engineer asked him why his bass had 2 strings. His reply was "in case that one breaks". His bass was strung with 2 E strings. Classic.
Love it!

I have the reverse P on my Streamer, it sounds like Godzilla. I also love quite a few trad Precision players who also sound like Godzilla. Theoretically the trad P pickup design and the reverse P should sound different from eachother, the trad having deep low strings and zingy tops, the reverse P having more evenly balanced output over the strings, but in REALITY, it don't mean sh*t.

Bass player who plays every song in same key?
xilddx replied to lowlandtrees's topic in Bass Guitars
If it sounds ok what's the problem? I'll admit it's an odd thing to do (if the OP has explained it right) but really, what does it matter? It's the MUSIC that matters isn't it? I don't give a sh*t if the kid doesn't know what the tertiary arse of a flat seagull is or whatever. And there are plenty of people who can barely play with any expression at all but who know a ton of theory, I know who I'd rather listen to. -
Yes but how many of you know what the tertiary dominant chord is in the key of Bb? I have been told that there is now a guitar which plays in tune no matter how badly it is out of tune. These folks are not musicians but rather "guitar owners".
Who cares? -
Here's a demo of the bass by Ryan Martinie. Not the best sound quality and he starts the demo by doing his octave tap technique which doesn't sound right for this bass, but does play some nice melodic stuff towards the end. You'll get a rough idea of what the bass is like. Can't wait to try one myself and see how it compares to the Star 1 which I absolutely adore.
God that really was a dreadful demo. Great bass though.
Hi there all, My partner has a Japanese fender squier jazz bass silver series which he no longer plays for various reasons and we are looking to sell it but not really sure where to start. So we have join this group to see if any of you are able to point us in the right direction to get the money it is worth. Thanks Sharon
I had one, they are very good generally, mine played and sounded great. The market is quite depressed at the moment but I'd expect to pay around £200 for a good one I reckon.
