Yep, this is the key (no pun intended) to this. Just tune to Bb standard tuning and work out the notes you need to play from there. The problem I'd have with this if I were in the OP's position is that while I can hear the intervals between notes, this automatically gets converted to the fret positions in standard tuning. It would probably take me a fair bit of practice to overcome years of ingrained muscle memory. But then I'm an old git who's probably set in his ways, which I'd imagine isn't a problem the OP has.
I'm sorry but I disagree with both your replies. The guitarists are clearly doing what they need to to achieve the sounds they want. This is progress from the POV of the musician. It's not muscle memory that's your problem, it's just practice. It can easily be overcome.

Brilliant!!

Here's an idea, don't do it

Christ, 10 hours a week! I almost never practice, although I should. When I was in my late teens and twenties I practiced and played for 6-12 hours a day on guitar. I'm nearly 50 now, I'd rather just write and play.
Yup, Procell 10 packs all the way for me. Not just for the active basses - tuner pedal needs them too
Yep, that's what I do too. Batteries should last ages. But paranoia can lead some to change them after every gig
....totally agree there.im trying to convince both my bands if sylosis and opeth can sound heavy in standard tuning so can we lol
Forget all that, the music is what is important. Use whatever tuning you need. You just need to get used to it. The primary skill is hearing the notes, not playing by numbers. But practicing scales in standard tuning will help you hear the notes so you can go to your weird bass and work out scales by ear, rather than by laborious technical exercise. So see if you can buy an old hack for £60 and keep it knocking about the house for practice in EADG
-
Buy a dirt cheap bass and keep it in standard tuning, use that for your theory related practice. If you are playing in Bb,F,Bb,E you'll need to HEAR scales in order to play them fluently, the more you practice in standard tuning the better you will be able to hear scales.
Hey Nige. If memory serves, you sold your East-fuelled Jazz citing lack of upper fret access/a 24 fret board. Is this something you've decided you can do without? Maybe GAS causes selective amnesia ;-)
S'right, hadn't forgotten GAS causes selective stupidity really, I'm looking at Jazzes again now I've withdrawn it now, must have gone f***ing mad for a few weeks
I would think very carefully before selling your Warwick to get a Precision , Nige . I love my Precision Bass , but there are times when most folks would crave a bit more variety . Your Warwick has already got a wicked modern P Bass sound amongst its' many tonal options , what real advantage would having a Fender offer ? Put simply , your Warwick will do the Precision thing but a Precision cannot get close to doing what the Warwick does . Another thing that occurs to me is that I shudder to think what the current U.K retail price would be on a German - made Warwick with that chrome finish .
Yeah, I know. I often get a strong feeling that I want a change. For me my sounds come from the POD X3 (which I have never felt like selling), so basses are the fun interchangeable tools part of my equation. Must admit though, I had a bit of a panic dream last night regarding selling the CT I'm starting to have second thoughts which is a very good thing Thanks mate.
Possibly the best thing I've ever read! I have played this very bass, as it belonged to a bass chatter who is a good friend of mine. It plays amazingly well, a sound to absolutely kill for! And it looks much much MUCH better in the flesh, the pictures don't do it any justice. I wish I had the money! Dan
Cheers Dan. It has a very low action now it's been fettled, fantastic player.
Bonkers Nige, get a grip man Oh, did I mention Love Swallow and Kite mate, write the album. Nowt like it but I got a Camel/ Snow Goose moment
I know I know! Whatever bass I sell, it can't take away the music Glad you liked the music mate
Got to say I'm totally staggered to see this ad Nige. So it really is true, the P bass gets us all in the end . I know that I'm probably further away than Jack but if you want a trip up to Mac towers to try out my P basses you are very welcome.
Thanks G, and Jack. My plan is to go to Guitar Guitar and try a bunch of them out. Liking the USA Special, or a USA Standard. I still have my home made Electra with a nice German Warwick neck. Just need to take it to the Gallery and get the guts and neck fitted. It's a great bass so I'm not worried

I'm not having a breakdown, honest I have had 3 Precisions and 2 Jazzes, I do love Fender, and I just fancy a change. Obviously I'm looking for a life bass, and with the price of new Fenders being very low at the moment, I'm happy to give it a shot. I do know what you mean though, but really, it's only a bass, I think
Yep, believe it or, I'm also thinking I'm starting to GAS for a Precision too and I'm such a Warwick lover. But I'm also convinced I'd get bored to death with it very quickly.
Oh dear, I have just put the chrome Warwick up for sale

Now on ebay http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1555.l2649 BC price is £750 plus shipping, or you can pick it up or I can drop it to you if you are close to London. I need a quick sale now as there's a Jazz on here I'm after. I won't be lowering the price any more. It does not look bling, it looks classy, I have had some really nice comments about it at gigs, from girls, guys and bassists It balances and plays beautifully and has the sculpted concave Streamer body which is incredibly comfortable. It weighs 9lb dead. Comes with a Warwick Rockbag Premium and the truss rod tool. The Streamer CT is in excellent condition except for a few little marks on the side and back, and a bit of chrome missing on the edge of the headstock (shown in the pics). However, the durability of the finish should be evident in the photos. This bass is 9 years old and the finish is still amazing. The front is pretty much perfect. It's stock except for an upgrade to the beautiful (and f***ing expensive at £90!) brass JANIII. The neck is truly lovely to play, the frets are in ace nick, the gorgeous ebony board is like silk with a lovely sheen to it and absolutely clean. The neck is Jazz-like, the profile is D around the nut so a little thicker than your recent Fender Jazzes. The neck and board is regularly waxed and oiled with no marks on it whatsoever and it feels silky and extremely comfy. It has MEC gold pups, J/RP, active MEC circuitry with bypass, Vol/Pan/Hi/Lo. 1x9v. It's immensely versatile, glassy highs and lows bigger than Beyonce's leg. All the specs are here http://www.warwick.d...tID=14489&cl=EN You can see it in action here You can hear a recent recording I did here https://soundcloud.c...ow-and-the-kite
I see your point, but in my case, when I fail to listen to the tracks in the Composition comp and vote, there is a simpler reason: lack of time. In order to choose one song, I usually need to listen to all of them more or less at the same time, or I won't be able to remember which one I prefer. I can obviously get back to each of them more than once - and I tend to do just that if possible - but that again takes time. I have also been suggesting we get a collection (either online or on CD) not just of each month's winners but of all the tracks that have been posted in the comps, if their authors allow. Choosing a winner doesn't mean I don't like the other tracks, and it would be good to have them all at hand rather than having to dig them out of the online jungle one by one. From that to sharing links on FB or wherever, or getting friends to listen to the songs in real life, would be just one small step.
Silvia, you are a Basschat hero, so no case to answer Jim Ryan and all those taking part in the BC Bass Relay are others, there are more.

Dear Basschatters, Dick Venom and the Terrortones, Linear Sphere, Our Helical Mind, inFictions, The Jetsonics, Owen Lloyd-Evans, Fear of Bicycles, All the Queen's Ravens, Tacsi, Ujahm, Hour of the Dog, Nearly Dan, Godsticks, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, A Little Bit Outlaw, runleiarun .. These are all bands with Basschat members in who I've either really loved, seen live, or bought the album. These are by no means all, there are more, but I've been at the Jura Superstition I'll add to them There is often a number of threads running on here containing a good old bark and squeak about the state of the music industry, how most new music is garbage, how it's so hard to get gigs, how so many originals bands are arrogant shits who can't write or play, how we are all doomed, and covers bands and Simon Cowell are taking over and ruining our popular music. Well, you know what? It's not f***ing true. There are so many Basschat members who contradict that view with ACTUAL musical output of great quality. They are among you, waiting for you to hear them, to support them, to help them gain confidence with your feedback, your encouragement, your money. But it seems we would rather yap about how PCs are sh*t and Apples are good for your complexion, how Flea is crap and star anise has no place in a bolognese, watch a video of a bassist f***ing it up instead of getting it right. Or bloody football You can still do all this, but for f***'s sake, LISTEN to your fellow bassists' music!! Go to the BC Recording section and vote in the Composition Competition, the mixing competition, go to the BC Gigs section and see your fellow bassists' bands when they play in your area, watch the videos they put up for your feedback ... the response to these areas of Basschat is damn pitiful. If we won't even spend a bit of our energy doing this, how the f*** can we expect anyone else to? Basschat is a wonderfully supportive community, a LOT of members who have had personal troubles have had so much help and support, including me, hugely. This is FABULOUS!! But can we extend this wondrous love to the music we make? </rant or whatever> Yes yes, I can't complain because I have been the recipient of really wonderful feedback on one of my bands, and quite a number of sales, but this is because I'm a bit of c**t and I chuck it in your faces with a massive signature, and announcements and stuff. But this is not about me, this is about all of us. And some of you buggers at the start of this post could do a lot more to promote your bands and music as well LISTEN! One Love.

It's really good and I like it! I like the vid and the music, and you clearly have a 'package' and 'attitude'. Very impressed. Don't take this the wrong way, but I doubt I would want the album as the music's not really my thing to be perfectly honest, but I would definitely see you live because I'm sure I'd really enjoy that.

Top 60 of what? Most heard of?
Please don't take it to heart - it was meant as a gentle leg-pull. I would have added "and the music of other basschatters" on the end but it wouldn't scan. I'll accept 3 points on my poetic licence.
I am acutely aware of how over-promotion of one's band can piss people off, and the limits I feel I should impose on myself in doing so. I'm also of the opinion that for all the discussion and argument about music on Basschat, not much BCer's music gets listened to by fellow members, which I feel is a shame as there is some great music being produced here. Music is deeply important to me, so if I appear to be over zealous in wanting my own and other members' music to get heard and hopefully enjoyed, then maybe I am guilty of mis-judgment. Your gentle leg-pull made me feel like you were not the only one thinking I have overstepped the boundaries of what is acceptable in trying to get Kit heard. Maybe I am being too sensitive. Cheers.
