1.
[sup]BOught it last night, stuck it on in the car this morning, loving what I've heard so far! Cheers for the heads up [/sup]
Excellent
 2.
It sounds as though they are moving further and further away from Carpenter's massive riffing style of olden days, or am I just missing the great tracks? The last Deftones track that had me thinking 'wow' was Hexagram!
There are plenty of massive riffs on this album mate. Goon Squad is one of my favourites.
 3.
The singles from Adrenaline are good but I agree it's a tad hit and miss. A sound of a band still finding their feet?
Yes, still good enough for Madonna to sign em up though Adrenaline - Demonstration Around the Fur - Revelation White Pony - Deification Deftones - Defecation Saturday Night Wrist - Ressurection Diamond Eyes - Continuation Koi No Yokan - Elation That's the way I look at them anyway.
 4.
+1 for Around The Fur! An album that really got me into playing. Chi's playing is brilliant on this album as well!
Yep, the album that I heard first, and it's a beauty. I'm not too keen on Adrenaline though.
 5. It's odd I have only just got this album. I wonder why I wasn't aware of its release until now? I heard Leathers a while ago but I thought that was the single. Must pay attention in future.
 6.
I like the way that they really change and evolve with each album they put out. Something that not too many bands acheive! Sure they have several qualities that are consistent, Chinos voice, Stefs riffs(!) and just that huge huge sound! Abe's gotta be one of the most underrated metal drummers around, so heavy. But not about blast beats and double-kick; it's all about the groove with him. White Pony's still my favourite though I really enjoyed Saturday Night Wrist. WP holds many many memories for me when I was growing up as a teenager and the album really spoke to me at that point in my life. Is Chi still with us? Truckstop
Chi is still with us. Abe is one of my favourite drummers. Subtle but he has his own style.
 7.
Thanks boys, (diolch yn fawr as we say round here) - glad you dig our scene There's a better recording, and also our first album here: http://www.mixcloud.com/tacsiband/ We've got 2 more albums due out soon, one all Welsh and the other all English... watch this space!
I couldn't see an option for a download mate, do I have to sign up to mixcloud or something?
 8. Everyone knows the best bassists are ex-guitarists
 9.
As someone who has never knowingly heard a song by the Deftones which album would you recommend I check out?
This one, if you don't like this, you won't like the Deftones. The vid I just posted is a fair representation of the album mate.

 11.
+1 Diamond Eyes is also absolutely cracking. I haven't heard the new one yet but I've heard nothing but good things.
This is heavier than DE.
 12.
I put a Fender decal on my beater Brandoni kit Jazz simply to stop idiot punters and halfwit guitards telling me I should get a 'real' Fender. Not because I was ashamed, oh no, but because I got bored with telling them to cock off and get a 'real' life. The fact that the practice sometimes enrages other bassists is just the big f***ing pink cherry on top of the cake afaic. OP - do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. .
13.
Oooh, will go buy it now....
Yeah man! I just bought it about an hour ago, banged on the headphones and got on with the washing up and the cooking. It f***ing fantastic, and a real grower I reckon.
 14.
I might give it a spin soon. I liked Adrenaline and Around the Fur, White Pony really didnt grab me though....
They've moved on
 15.
+1. Took my Japanese Squier P when I gigged in Sweden last, had a guy come up to me from the audience after asking me what year my bass was from, he thought it was a 60's P and he knew his stuff, he just couldn't see the Squier logo from where he was sat in the auditorium. I showed him it was a Squier, he asked me why I was playing one, I told him it sounded good. I know he did too because he told me before he found out it was a Squier!
That's a great story But for me it's not about the 'sound' of a bass anymore, it's about the build quality, comfort and ergonomics, the looks, way it rests, the way it makes my hands feel, whether it screams PLAY ME! The sound can always be changed. The others can't.
 16. f***ing hell. It's bloody good isn't it!! There are some monster numbers on there and Chino has never sounded better. Nick Razkczlozzinzczuncz who produced the last two Rush albums is in the chair. And I have to say the production is very nice indeed! It's lovely hearing an album you love for the first time. Having a delightful music hour with Deftones and a bottle of Portuguese oesophagus polish right now Let's spare thought for Chi Dai Cheng.
 17.
My bass has nothing on the headstock. I get a lot more questions asked about it over the Fender's everyone else are playing.
I really like blank headstocks, they look cool.
 18. But what we must remember is that in the 'good old days' of 'real' music most of those popular bands we herald as paragons of musical 'quality' and 'honesty' were given loads of pressure to make commercial music and have an album contain at least one song with the potential to be a pop chart hit.
 19. The only person who will give a sh*t is you. Be prepared for the empty feeling inside screaming FAKE! every time you look at it. If you like the bass, be proud of its maker.
 20.
just as a matter of interest when the term boost your mids is used what frequency is being talked about, mids is a pretty wide frequency range, I boost mine at about 400 Hz, how about everybody else?
Yeah me too, usually around that area. Nasal tones disgust me so I'm usually trying to eliminate those. I like the way BillyApple described my sound at a London Zulu gig, 'deep with bite'. That's what I'm usually after but the reason it's audible is because of the mids. People think mids scream at you but they don't, they can be used as an audible illusion to get a scooped sound in a band situation that is still audible.
 21.
You're all being very mean to the Posh Wurzels.
22.
Jaco has "god like" status for many bass players and I can understand why. I do think that it is a sad story and that we were robbed of a great talent way to soon. Very sad.
Fixed for you. I actually think Jaco has probably spawned a great deal more terrible bassists than good ones though, like Edward Van Halen did for guitarists.
 23.
Yeah but most punters have only heard of rock lobster , there won't be many hardcore B52 fans in the audience . Not up here anyway!
He's in Stockport though isn't he? Anyway, there are plenty on the list that I doubt many people have heard .. After Midnight - JJ Cale Pumped up kicks - Foster the people Steam - Laura Vane and the Vipertones Enjoy the ride - Morcheeba Rome wasn’t built in a day - Morcheeba So much trouble - Sir Joe Quaterman Is it my perception or are there a hell of a lot of cover bands around at the moment, breeding like flies over the last few years.
 24.
I've been tossing a few ideas around with some friends about a possible female-fronted pub/party covers band. What do you think of this setlist, please? Free Me - Joss Stone Love shack - B52s Stupid Girl - Garbage Moses - Coldplay After Midnight - JJ Cale Groove is in the heart - Dee Lite Pumped up kicks - Foster the people Bohemian like you - Dandy Warhols Mercy - 3rd Degree Steam - Laura Vane and the Vipertones Happy birthday - Altered Images Do you believe - Cher I’m outa love - Anastacia Get this party started - Pink Tainted love - Imelda May Enjoy the ride - Morcheeba That’s not my name - Ting Tings You’ve got the love - Florence and the machine Rome wasn’t built in a day - Morcheeba Losing my religion - REM Hi Ho - The Lumineers What’s up - 4 non-blondes So much trouble - Sir Joe Quaterman Can’t touch this - MC Hammer One day like this - Elbow Chemistry - Semisonic My favourite game - The Cardigans
Most true B-52s fans hate Love Shack. Do Rock Lobster instead. Or Juliet of the Spirits, or even better, Channel Z.
 25.
it's always whoever's in house. we're a DIY, plug and play, local rock band, 30 gigs and rarely step out of the village! our village is Cardiff tho and there's plenty going on here. quite popular mind, on the innerweb yup! I've always liked my sound like that, even on stereos/graphic equalisers. if bass is too boomy/muddy or high end i'll increase the turn back the bass or treble, but mids has always been a 'dont like it' thing for me
Well, you are the architect of your own building collapse then aren't you Mids are a fine art, I have spent hours f***ing around with mids on my patches, and you MUST do it with music on, doing it in isolation doesn't work. All the sexiest bass sounds are created by people crafting them on their own, the soloists, put those solo sounds in a band situation and you're more or less f***ed because they will usually disappear. Isolate the nicest ensemble bass sounds and they usually sound rancid.
