Favourite Bassline YOU have written and recorded
Cant claim all the credit, but I like the electric bass I played on this ( doesnt date well in retrospect, and some of you will hate it no doubt, its circa) 1990
Lovely bass mate! It sounds brilliant, and such a great line! I like the song too, nice MancWorld mash up -
Purely from a listening point of view (and despite my advanced years) I look forward to the possibilities that some new band or singer / songwriter is going to come up with something really good that makes me think "great, we're still using the same 12 notes and this guy / girl or band have done something that stirs me up and sounds original. I think part of the problem is that many people (probably the 40+ group) think that all the talent has been used up. Not true. There's still a lot of great music to be written.
Yes!!
If there was no new music what would be the point of being a musician?? Surely there those amongst us who want to do more than regurgitate what has been done before (no disrespect meant to those in covers bands) but what would be the motivation? Much as I hate most of the music that's being released currently I really wouldn't want NOTHING new. Even so, if there no new music I reckon I'd just have to buy everything that Bubinga5 posts here(I nearly always do anyway!!!).
1. You could be a classical or jazz musician, or in a cover or tribute band? 2. This is what I can never understand, how can you have heard 'most' new music? It's a common thing I hear on BC that 'most' new music is sh*t
-
What a load of sh*te. Watched Mtv for the first time in years. Miles zane - some guitarist tosser. sh*te song, sh*te video and the most unconvincing lead man since emu... A young lad with a guitar and a leather outfit, but no musical magic. This is what comes of the cowel generation, this poor lad probably had originality and talent but has been sterilized by the gb music machine, stifling any originality, ends. Up as a pop joke instead of pop icon.
You depressing bastard
-
The idea that there could be no new music would massively depress me. I do still listen to a lot of old music but I love hearing new and interesting stuff, it's a real buzz.
That's my view too. I find a new bands to love quite often, found a few on here.
I think you could spend your entire life listening to music 24/7 and still not be able to hear everything ever produced up to this point in time. I think a lot of it would be sh*t though. I'd rather hear stuff that is being created now as well as old stuff really. Are they really stopping music then?
Yeah, the coalition think we could be using our time more usefully There are many many lifetimes worth of music out there, of course there is stuff you won't like, what I'm interested in is WHY you want to hear new music though.
-
If the music gods stopped music production dead in its tracks, so there was NO MORE MUSIC being produced at all, would it matter to you? Would the immense music catalogue that currently exists be enough for you to browse, discover and enjoy for the rest of your natural life? Or is new music very important to you? Why? Etc.
Thanks for the feedback XILDDX, it's always good to get some of the non audibly painful kind I know what you mean about the fast part, i was in 2 minds about keeping it in and still am in fact as it is rather pointless other than me just having fun, your right there is always a danger of it looking a bit unneccesarily "flash" and "w**ky", but the song is otherwise rather repetitive and i wanted to add some variety here n there. At least that's the theory. It's still WIP so perhaps i'll try a version without and do a comparison.
I usually leave notes out in the riff or f*** with the rhythm if I want to break up any repetitiveness. It can have huge impact on the feel. What do you think of some of the others on here? Have you heard Gareth Flatlands' band inFictions? He posted a link in this thread, superb band! -
Is it just me, or does he have great big sandals?
Must be you mate, I can't see anything but a couple of Thames barges.
IMHO, if the neck needed a lateral shim to bring it into alignment I would return it. If just loosening off and 'tweaking' which you could do while adjusting the rod then do it - you've nothing to lose (just be careful that you don't knock any paint chips out of the pocket as the shop keep may spot this and whine if you end up returning it).
Doesn't this invalidate the warranty? Mad I know, but I'm sure I heard truss rods tweaks were out.
-
I'm in!
Superb!
-
Agreed, you can't get a Rizla between neck and pocket sides on any of my three Warmoths.
Exactly. Fender can, and should, be doing better than this. There are no excuses, especially with the technology they have.
-
They couldn't be the Monochrome Set without Bid... Let's hope Lester, and Andy Warren are there too!
Totally agree!
-
I would have to see this neck before I would judge it to be seriuosly out of line. Also, as others have said a tiny amount of movement can cause a neck to slightly misalign. Who knows, it could have been the last person to try it out in the shop to bumped it. A wee tweak and it's sorted. It's just a step too far to start going on about Fender quality control.
Well IMO, if the CNC is set up and used correctly, surely the neck socket should be tight enough that the neck can't move. On the Warwicks I've owned the neck socket is so perfect you barely need screws. SO I certainly don't think it's a step too far to start going on about Fender quality control.

That doesn't sound too good Ian. Have you got Front Parlour Ballads?
-
MB1. Didn't they used to have a singer called Bid?
Yeh! They still do AFAIK

I'm listening to BC member GarethFlatlands band's album. It's f***ing brilliant! http://infictions.bandcamp.com/album/maps-of-revenge-and-forgiveness
So I bought a new Nate Mendel P bass a couple of weeks ago. I'm really happy with it generally, but there are a couple of niggles. One is the fact that I haven't been able to set it up properly as the neck has a very sight bow, and I can't see a way to adjust the truss rod without taking the neck off, and I'd rather get someone else to do that. I generally take stuff to Jim Fleeting in Ripon as he always does a great job. The second niggle is that I have noticed that the strings seem to be slightly too far over to the right when you look down on the neck. It's like they're a millimetre too far over to the right at the heel base of the neck, as if the bridge has been mounted just out of place. My question is - should I take it back and get them to swap it for another one, or would it not bother you if it played okay? I compared it to my US P, and that one is perfectly true straight down the middle. I'm in a bit of a quandary.
Swap it. No question. The faults you describe are unnacceptable.
-
Yeah, but it's more fun though, innit.
Not as much as taking the piss out of zil players with dupuytren's contracture
-
Oh yes! I'm in London the night before playing with the Terrortones. That would be worth staying on for... Off to listen to "He's Frank (slight return)"
Stay two nights! Where you playing in London, Mike? I'll try to get to see you finally.
-
Jesus :S You guys need to play with decent musicians. Don't be blaming keys players en masse, that's just bloody stupid innit.
-
Any MONOCHROME SET fans here then? They are playing at Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush on 27th April, the night before I play there with Kit Richardson. I'm going with lady xilddx, she is a huge fan.
This is a rough-ish recording made at rehearsals recently on the GT-R1, something we've knocked around a few times. It came out of the blue and is a totally different style to anything we've played before which is normally rock based. I Just stomped around a bit on G then the guitarist played a folky type riff over it and started winging some lyrics. The bassline progresses as the song goes on ending in a slow walk or stroll if you like towards the end. Its still work in progress, but i like the feel and there are so many options, particularly in the chorus part. Disclaimer. Try not to focus on the vocals or quality, basically we can't get a singer so the guitarist is having a go, if it works out we'll have a power trio, the best combo ! Patience https://www.box.com/...k22zt0l65bzo2bx Hope the link works ?
That's good man, that little fast descending part doesn't really add to the song for me though, it's always tempting to chuck in little parts like that that show you can play fast, but for me it's unnecessary as you are already playing well Good tone too. -
I think there is a thread Nige , If you PM Jim your contact details he will add to a list he has Emailed around , then just keep your eye in and shout up that you want it I guess , organise the baton handover and away you go. It is going to be fairly organic in the route , so if local guys organise a few dates to keep it local before it moves on fair enough , but as long as it keeps moving it will be good . Ed to add Do you have it back Jim ? is the next date available ?
Will do that, thanks mate.
