1.
We seem to have this discussion quite regulaly , but I have to ask the question Gareth , if the price of EBMM basses has steadily increased over the last few years and yet the price of used basses has remained consistantly depressed , why would the price of new basses increasing further recently suddenly start making prices rise ? Why didn't that happen after all the previous price hikes ? What's different about the most recent one to make that situation change ? There is already some significant reason why prices are at a certain level , and whatever it is seems to be fairly impervious to increases in the price of new basses . I can remember twenty years ago the price of a decent used Stingray was between £500-£600, depending on age and condition ect. If they are currently going for between £650 and £800 for a very good example then that tells you something is keeping prices at a certain point . I would suggest that the simple fact is that there are so many used Stingrays available that you will never see the used value appreciate unless something dramatic happens to increase their desirability in relation to their supply. That isn't likely to happen . It affects me too as an EBMM owner myself, but we all have to face that fact that they might be great basses but none of us will be selling them anytime soon and retiring on the proceeds .
Oh I didn't mean dramatically. Just that the recent £200+ rise might make sellers not so keen to well so cheap. I usually have quite specific specs on mine (eg hh, matching headstock, not black or pearl blue) and it tends to attract a much more sensible second hand price. I agree. £800 is still a good price for a used Ray H in excellent condition. Especially if it's a sunburst or natural. Black? Hmm...loads about.
 2. The right bass in the right condition will always sell if you are patient eg if a buyer is actively seeking one. Musicman prices have shot up. The used market will catch up.
 3.
Maybe something to do with the fact that the "well known bass shop" can't sell barefaced cabs? Frank.
I doubt they will ever be in a shop. Bad business sense in a way...BF can charge shop prices but sell directly. If they sold to a store, can you imagine the retail prices?!?!
 4.
Some of the people, I feel, who have a strange distaste for this stuff are either Hipsters trying to hard or people who would have everyone playing rusty fenders through big heavy worn rigs, but people pay extra for that stuff right? And for anyone who plays with a PA and uses a DI, your cab is about as important as the 'tone' a 9v battery gives you over a new fan dangled power supply.
I think personally, it's statements like that that wind people up who have a choice over whether they like them.
 5.
Are we surprised though... ?? you look at the numbers of threads in this forum about Barefaced cabs...? Not sure anyone wants to hear what cab they have ordered to be delivered in a few months time ( or not ) over and over again.
+ 1
 6. This is going on for too long. Flat/coloured, no one really cares that much. I'd rather concentrate on having a mint gig and enjoying it...isn't that what its all about?
 7.
I'm not having a go at you but it's statements like this that I really don't understand. Lots, and lots, of people have tried BF and really don't like them - look at how many come up for sale in the classifieds. However, whenever anyone says they don't really like them there's always a stack if people saying those people must be hearing things incorrectly and/or they don't really know a good bass tone when they hear one. I just don't see how this could possibly be the case.
Good post.
 8. Super easy transaction, very stress free, total gent, and genuinely nice guy! Ean bought my HH Ray and paid a month or so in advance. Would easily deal with again! Enjoy and speak soon!
 9.
Just landed a beautiful ray hh off Gareth. What a legend! he said it was in good nick, but that was selling it FAR short!! Itcame in the original carboard, with the plastic on the guard etc In perfect as new condition. A total gent to boot She will be played and loved mate take care and thanks again, r.
Thanks mate, you are a gent and very trustworth guy! Absolutely fantastic to deal with and zero stress Enjoy it...that bridge pup is something else on that particular bass.
 10.
Why? I'm not being confrontational, just interested in your thoughts.
A) Resale, B ) Bergantino sound - Jim has an excellent approach to bass guitar tone in cabinets, C) Aesthetics, D) Quality.
 11. I would stick with the Bergs.
 12. I received an email on this today. Nice idea. Are the P/J Jazz basses very similar to the recent MIJ models? Not keen on the P colours...wish they would do a 3 tone sunburst. I often think 'why not get a Sandberg' when I see these new Fender's, but I guess the Sandbergs are totally different.
 13.
What I crave personally is a totally uncoloured back line set up, so that my bass sounds like it does through headphones in my studio. Not found it yet.
Surely most studios and headphones add their own character. I prefer, personally, to have some character. Even clean amps have character, (eg the Markbass sound, the Genz Shuttle sound).
 14.
A mate of mine testifies to this, despite pairing it with TC cabs
Man, the 450 and 750 is all abouts mids mids mids, I've never once ever had issues with volume, tone, compression, or anything. In fact, the 450 sounded 'larger' than most the 500W similar micros.
 15. Eventually there will be plenty about...just initial runs that keeps people interested! I might get the cherry burst Starcaster.
 16.
Despite the fact that I can think of umpteen reasons why these basses are not my "thing ", I am beginning to think that I really want one. Thanks for that ,Gareth . Especially because they are short scale , I think one of these could be a lot of fun for using on the sofa in front of the T.V whilst I entertain Mrs Dingus by playing along with the theme music to all her favorite shows . She loves that . These look great in a retro, indie band kind of a fashion and I can imagine myself growing a beard to complete the look ( and becoming even more irresistable to women in the process) . I think Fender will sell truckloads of these , given the current trend in basses towards vintage sounds and styling , and good luck to them .
Ay...I've just finally got my band sorted out. We are doing our own stuff, in the vein of The Smiths, Kasabian, Blur, Oasis, The Beatles, MIles Kane, Weller, that kinda mod/indie thing which I've wanted to do for over ten years but never found the right guitarist. Now I've got it sorted I'm tempted to get one of these.
 17.
Without seeing one in the flesh, what is the black decoration at the bottom of the headstock? Just black paint under the varnish or an additional piece of wood? Hard to tell in the photos.
Black paint under varnish from what I can tell.
 18. I've just recently tried a Starcaster in Newcastle. Super super impressed. Perfect QC, very pretty binding. Heavier than they look, but I mean that as in it weighs like a normal sized light P bass. Substantial feel. Very jazz-growl like with both pups, the bridge pup bites and snarls, the neck pup goes from clear warm tones to very very fat bassy tones. We are talking huge fat lows from the neck pup, should you want it. The neck is great, access to fretboard is great, it LOOKS great. The only thing they should do is upgrade the tuners...but other than that...super cool bass. This was the cherry burst. Now I want one. For the record, the fit/finish was actually perfect. Better than a lot of the recent MIA P/J basses I've tried. Some nice pics from the USA: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SCBassMACB/
 19.
Played with one for a couple of hours at the SE Bass Bash - they are monstrously loud, my measely 500w MB sa450 head into one literally emptied the hall with the other 30 or 40 bass rigs, because no one could hear anything whilst we played with it. Once again apologies to everyone who put up with my getting very excited with filter sweeps into brown note territory at extreme war volume. Apparently you can jam 1600 watts into one all day and it will just turn your internal organs to jelly... It sounded fantastic, effortlessly loud, but more than that a great tone. Killer cab...
You must have one on order then ?!

 21. I think those prices on the amps are much more sensible. That is probably the rough price they are meant to sell for...
 22.
Come back here saying that when you've developed RSI!
I've seen a few wrist problems with guitarist friends. I had a strict bass tutor from day one, on a thick p bass neck. No problems in 16 years....so hopefully he taught me well.
 23.
It's the inner beauty that mathers...
They say that...but...we all know the reality haha!
 24.
This is good for one reason, like most people i send my signal to FOH via the amps DI. Using an "uncolouring" rig i know that the sound i'm hearing behind me is the same being fed to the mixer (i play pub gigs with PA but no tech). Using a colouring rig i couldn't know if what sounds good to me on stage is sounding like sh*t on the main mix.
I get it, but the soundman will just change it anyway....that's what they usually do...to their taste.
 25.
Now they just need to be finished with a smoother coat of paint. I'm not a big fan of the current rough paint job but i won't get rid of my S12T because of its looks! The sound (and weight) is way more important
I could make an analogy, but I won't haha.
