1.
T To be fair, I don't think Genz production has been in the US for a while now.
No it's an overseas factory they've used for a long time so they have good connections etc...but a new factory to save costs could cost them in QC.
2. I think Fender are going for re-branded Genz gear. Whether it will be as good, who knows. Apparently its production is being moved to China. The safest bet would have been to stick with the products, stick a Fender logo on it, and continue. My Shuttlemax 9.2 and Streamliner 900 are going nowhere.
3. After all these years of salivating over the Aguilar DB cabs, I'm still obsessed with how pretty they are and how good they sound.
4. I just get bored on a P Bass, plus the Stingray feels more comfortable for finger playing for me. Don't get me wrong, a P is great, but its just the same old.
5. Max 9.2. Killer amp. Or the standard 9.2.
6. Never had to shim but no doubt most of my basses have a factory shim. I don't have low action...more like medium I think. I like to be able to dig in hard and not cause any issues.
7. I think once these become more readily available I'm going to get one. They look beautiful for £270!
8.
It's a good question! To look at them, you can tell no corners whatsoever have been cut in the fit and finish. They're incredibly tidy, as I'm sure everyone who saw them at the bash will attest. The standard 112 is an absolute bargain, but the driver is ceramic so it's bound to be cheaper than the neo cabs in the range. That said, the neo stuff is still extremely reasonable when you compare it to what else is out there. I've got the Neo 112 here (the black and white one) if you want to have a lend?
Cheers WoT!!! Ill see what I can do and when it'll be best.
9. I would have liked to pop down yesterday but due to preparation for work etc I was not able to make it. These TKS cabs look absolutely fantastic. How do they make them without breaking the bank?!
10. The LB was a much nicer design, from an aesthetical point of view.
11. I've grown tired of trying to dislike it. It's alright...I don't see any harm. I actually think Gary Barlow is an excellent musician and a funny guy, in his own way. Just don't take it too seriously. Some of it is comedy gold!
12. If you really want a Fender, I'd go for a new American Standard. £1100 or less if you haggle new. Solid basses, good hardware (the new bridges are fabulous) and they will do everything an old Fender will do, without the hassle of taking the neck off for truss adjustments or worrying about gigging a £3K vintage. However, if you like you Stingray, and dig the ergonomics, (and this is coming from a Fender and Musicman fan) I would try out a few Musicman basses that have the neck pup. E.g. Stingray HH/HS, Sterling HH/HS, Bongo HH/HS or the Big Al SSS (nails a P bass tone and a LOT more). Not only will the Musicman give you a Fender flavour with the extra pups, you still get the Musicman tone/etc, ergonomics, and ease of setup.
13. No wonder I picked up a brand new stock EBMM Bongo for such a low price from DV247 then! They have said my warranty still runs as it did before.
14.
They're great. I ordered a vintage style Fender jazz bass case from them yesterday, as well as a load of other bits and pieces. Ive also used them in the past and have always had fantastic service from them. The routine is: You place your order. You instantly get an email confirmation that it's been received. When the order has been processed, they send you another email confirming it's on its way. This email will also contain a tracking link. You can then follow your orders progress as it makes its way to you. My experience has been that delivery from Thomann in Germany to Scotland (where I live) takes 3 working days.
Sounds good, and quicker than some UK retailers!
15. You should get an update from when it leaves BF, surely?!
16. The three micro amps I own stay pretty damn cool. In particular, the Genz Streamliner is very quiet despite the fans....VERY quiet. Sometimes I leave them on for quite a long time, and no issues so far.
17. I'm very impressed with Promenade Music. Speak to Gary...nice chap!
18. Tech 21 VT Bass DI or BDDI. Aguilar Tonehammer
19. Guys, this is ridiculously cheap. I was once someone who wouldn't dare try it. Then I did. Those pickups and that pre are the best combination I've heard in a long time, especially considering the basses are about £1500 new and not £3000.
20. NICEEEE!!! Do I need a third Stingray 5?!
21. The fast chops do come with practice. To them guys its second nature as they came about in the 90s with all the new American melodic punk bands that play everything incredibly fast...eg NOFX, Bad Religion. I couldn't do it that fast with fingers, but with a plec it's fast...probably the first thing I wanted to do on a bass was to play very very fast and melodic. It's just a different technique...kinda have to loosen your wrist, use a low action, normal strings, fairly medium to thin plectrum.
22. Light, punchy http://www.dv247.com/guitars/gallien-krueger-gk115-neo-bass-speaker-cab--96167
23. Nope. A P is great but I get bored of the same old tone. A Stingray never gets boring. Now I use Bongos/Rays/Sterling/Big Al/P/J....the more interesting complex basses get used more. At the moment, and I realise Ps have always been popular, but Fender are having a resurgence with all the indie bands. Fashion will change...
24. Just realised I starred listening to Green Day at 12/13 and its almost been 20 years. My god time has flown. I like the fact it's quite subtle that its a signature. I can see me trying out the white/maple.
