I think he sounds best on a Modulus live, I wasnt a fan of his Jazz bass era and I presume neither was he as it was quite short and returned to the Modulus even though he had parted company with them so he must really dig them, I still want one in sparkly silver, 5 string natch
I agree on the Flea/Jazz combination. Too much twang and not enough grunt.

I am a massive fan of the Aguilar DB cabs, but there is a caveat to that: A) - The prices for the DB cabs now are, IMO, too high. I bought a DB212 for a little bit more than the current price of a DB112 (brand new as well). B ) - 1 DB112 cab will struggle if you are going from a 4x10 and want to retain most of the volume. In fact, it just won't work. You will be pushing one speaker very hard. C) - A DB112 cab is not light, if you compare it to many 2x12s on the market. Eg, the Berg CN 212 is around 46lbs, the GB NX2 212T is 47lbs. They will absolutely outperform a single 12. I own a DB212 and the tone is fantastic. It looks great, has a tone I prefer, and is plenty loud enough. I could not rehearse with a DB112 that well, never mind gig, unless its quite a quiet band or they don't have a lot of stage volume. Despite all this, the DB112/212 is still one of my favourite cabs for tone.
Noticing that several on here own three Genz amps, I wonder if that is historical (as in owning say a Streamliner and a ShuttleMax and an old one), or whether there is a rationale for owning three new ones (as in say a Streamliner, and a GBE as well as a ShuttleMax). More specifically: in addition to the GBE not using Class D, are the GBEs and the ShuttleMaxes voiced differently from each other? Or is this about transportability or other stuff?
I have the Max 9.2 and Streamliner, purely because I'm greedy and I also like the completel different sound they have.
My cover is tapered up at the rear bottom where the wheels are. You thus have to put it on the right way round
Did you get a Roqsolid cover?
-
To you guys that might be ordering the Roqsolid Covers. It might be worth mentioning to them that if they're going of the same pattern every time that the cover on mine is about an Inch too long. It fouls the wheels at the bottom of the cab rendering them useless unless you lift the cover........which is a pain as the the handles are at the top of the cab. It might just be mine but you never know.
Ah I see! Well its the same size as it always has been (the cab dimensions throughout the model/speaker changes). Personally, I'd rather it covers the entire cab including the wheels....I get why it would be annoying if you roll it, but I'd rather have the whole of it covered down to the floor if poss. I'll have to deal with the wheels bit when I come to it haha! I doubt I'd use them until I've lifted it into the venue anyway (eg just to adjust position on stage).
My cab has been shipped!. I can track it on DPD couriers website. Delivery date is estimated to be next Tuesday which is pretty quick, considering I live on the west coast of Ireland. Now can i stretch for a streamliner or shuttle, or should stick with my markbass f500?. Have to say the review of the steamliner with the nx2-212 by the bass whisperer on YT is very impressive
The Markbass F500 and Shuttle would be quite close, but if you like that sound, a very good set of heads! Eg, tight, quick, modern, clean. The Streamliner would be more bloomy, warm, still clear but with 'colour'
You reckon a single 12/6 would hold its own in a rock context with a powerful enough amp?
If its a single guitarist through a moderate combo or small 2x12 setup, with drums, vocals, etc, then yes. It's a very capable cabinet. Very capable.
It's classic MESA. I know you made a very valiant attempted to explaining their pricing policy before, Barrie - but this is just typical of them. They just want to sell in North America, and stuff the rest of us. It's their ball, of course - they can play with it wherever they like. Frustrating, though.
I agree. It's highly frustrating. I don't actually see many shops that deal with Mesa now, especially bass amps/cabs. I wouldn't be bothered about getting a converter for the voltage and getting a USA model, as thats almost as much annoyance as spending £1800+ on a UK model. At £1300-1600 for a tube amp, I would go straight to Matamp or Orange.
-
If anyone would like to speak to WoT about a trial of the 12/6 in Newcastle area, then I'm happy to pass it on etc. I've had a great time using it. Fantastic cab. If I didn't buy the Genz NX cab in the sale I'd be seriously looking into a TKS.
-
To be honest, I've played a few P basses with very strong E strings, aggressive A strings, and weak D and G strings. Could be anything, but it is not just about the Stingray!
-
If a 2x12 isn't enough, then I wouldn't suggest just another singular 2x12 (+ whatever). I would suggest more speakers. Genz currently have a sale on at GAK. I would get another GB 2x12 if your amp will run to 2 ohms.
Can't seem to find the bit where you put the code in.... Maybe I'll give them a ring later.
Right near the end of the checkout. Ordered mine last night. My last Rqosolid cover was superb!

The GAK demos make it sound awful...but not as bad as the Coronado II.

Guys, Roqsolid have responded. There is already 9% off on their site AND...we get an extra 6% taking it to 15%. Great service as usual. They have asked me to post the discount code (case sensitive): NX2-212T
The fet channel on the 9.2 max is brilliant too, that's something the streamliner hadn't got, all the Genz heads have a place even the 3.0 is a great head as a super tiny spare with a di too.
I've heard rumours the 3.0 may well may a come back with Fender.
I'm getting more tempted by the minute.... that 12.2 looks superb, with the valve channel and the FET channel and the ability to blend the two. Have you tried one? Right must actually do some work today instead of coming on here and buying Genz stuff from GAK... who started this thread? its all your fault...
I have a Max 9.2 otherwise I would have opted for the 12.2. Really flexible super cool amps IMO. Every feature/EQ knob is actually worthwhile. Come to think of it...now I'm tempted for a Max 12.2 ARGHHHHH
-
Thanks gents that's reassuring, the STM600 looks about right for my needs... Although I'm fighting the urge not to order the 12.2 and another one of the remaining NX2-212s... in reality I'm unlikely to ever need that much power. Cheers
I had the same thought. I'm actually more keen on the Uber 15 setup.
Very interesting. I am tempted to go for a streamliner or shuttle to go with the cab. Which would you or anyone else here suggest I should snap up?. I play in a classic rock covers band and either use a Sadowsky J bass or a Fender pre cbs jazz
Streamliner - Warm, thick tone. It has a very nice high end, the sparkle is there but its warm! It's a very classic tone. Set flat, the bass is quite huge, and the mids need a bump. But bass at 10 and mids at 2 and its stunning. Really nice. It can also do extremely loud clean tube tone, and you can add grit if you want it. Shuttle/Shuttlemax - Clear, precise, more 'flat'. Very modern. It will warm up, but its much more quick and modern sounding. Lot's of detail. At the current prices I'd get a Streamliner 900, Max 9.2 or Shuttle 9.2. Mark @ BD has the Max 9.2 and it is a very cool amp. Ultra flexible. It won't however have the warmth of heft of the Streamliner.
I was really close to ordering the Bergantino CN212. Some say it has the edge over the Genz Benz, but I cannot imagine this edge being worth an extra £571!
Berg cabs have an excellent reputation, and although tonally I don't think the pevious AE212 was for me, (very wide modern tone, lots of low end, polite mids) the CN212 seems to be a very very well regarded cabinet. It will be the highest quality, and is 1lb lighter than the NX2 212 T. As you say, the Berg cabs are a lot more money, and boutique in a sense. The Bergs will hold their value pretty well, and the Genz will probably sell for more once the sale is over. BTW - Do not worry about the warranty. They are not allowed to sell the units without a warranty. Genz are serviced by Fender UK. Genz are no more, but the key staff are apparently working inside Fender on new amps. You can also still contact the Genz staff on Talkbass. If I was looking for a new amp, I'd snap up a Streamliner 900, Shuttlemax 9.2, Shuttle 9.2, or the Shuttlemax 12.2. I have two Genz amps which luckily were very low priced, so I haven't lost out. The warranty issue is exactly the same as if you bought a different brand, eg Aguilar. UK service centres will deal with it.

The bizarre thing is, I was very patient with buying a neo 212, and I did a lot of research around it. This cab consistently gets good reviews, its light, its high end, and its well engineered. I was so close to ordering the older NeoX model, then they changed to Faital drivers, then I again almost ordered. I was incredibly patient, then this!
-
Re: Roqsolid, I'm hoping they just provide a discount code (PLEASE ) for as and when we want to order.
-
This is a great idea. However GAK do not actually have the cabs in their warehouse yet. Ok, all should be good to go by the end of next week according to GAK, but you never know. I would prefer to wait until I actually have the cab in my possession, then get the cover. Just wondering would Bassdirect/The Bass Gallery match the price that GAK are offering these cabs for?
I guess it depends if Fender offered to sell them at the cheap price they did to GAK. GAK are a huge buyer, so probably get massive discounts. It DOES make you wonder how much these actually cost in labour/parts to make. It also makes you not want to spend £1000 on a cab ever again. The Faital drivers in this cab are pretty expensive! I'm guessing somewhere along the line someone is potentially losing money, but selling a LOT of stock to clear up.

I've emailed Roqsolid, pointed them to this thread/the offer, and asked if they can offer a discount if we all start ordering.
