1. I'm sure that cab performs excellently! For me the finishing touches would be black screws, different badge/repositioned. However, I can't get over how good the amp would sound, work and look with a pair of DB212s
2.
I know you mean well but it is probably best to avoid giving advice on issues you have evidently not experienced yourself as you clearly don't understand or appreciate what the issues involved and have just ended up sounding patronising. Rest assured that lightweight gear makes *all* the difference. Easily lifted cabs, lightweight basses, even access to my slip-on shoes so I don't have to tie laces!
Not giving advice, just my view! Please do not take offence. I probably don't appreciate it, no, but then again I didn't appreciate moving my old bands Orange 4x12 guitar cabs about. I'm surprised none of the band did any damage considering we lugged them up/down stairs. Extremely awkward cabs. I'm probably very lucky not to require light gear, but the big difference to me is lightweight heads. The cabs, not so much. It's more about form factor for cabs, with me anyway.
3.
See now, here's the thing. I am a big fella. For 25 years I used to shift heavy weights down the gym, looked after myself physically. 100kgs of Trace Elliot rig in and out of the car, no problem. Then - bang - lower back problem resulting in a weak sacro-iliac joint. I can assure you it isn't all in the lift, as I am equally sure that a load of other people on here who have issues with their back will tell you. Sorry if it gets on your nerves. I'm not overly impressed myself with having to live the rest of my life wondering when I am next going to have to ask help putting on my socks. For me, and people like me, weight is of paramount importance when choosing gear. And Barefaced cabs are a Godsend.
No I agree, there is no need for excessive weight, and we SHOULD ALL make sure we don't put pressure on our backs. I am lucky to always have assistance with moving gear. IMO - If its too heavy and wide to move yourself, use a £20 trolley off Amazon and get a friend to help with the lifts. Thing is, even a light cab can damage your back!
4. The 'carry'/'weight' thing gets on my nerves a little. I am a skinny guy. I look after myself and hit the cardio a fair bit, but I am not that strong and I know it! It's all in the lift, staying healthy and being super careful! Just ask for help!!! However, I've never once thought 'this is too much to carry' when you have another band member, who will usually need a hand with a heavy 2x12/4x12 guitar cab, or a heavy Fender combo. Then you have the PA and the drums in their cases. If you are on the tube or metro carrying gear, then you are braver than me! I would just take a bass and a decent DI if that was the case. I would never lug ANY cab no matter what the weight over a long distance. It's nice to be able to get cabs that are pretty light, but it isn't everything to me. The king of cabs after MANY trials is still the Aguilar DB212, which is just under 70lbs and a big box! I need to A/B it more with the Genz NX2 as the Genz is much easier to move and sounds brilliant, but my all time favourite 'tone' is the DB212.
5.
Horses for courses, naturally - but to say any BF cab causes lost signal is just wrong (IME).
I do not by any means have masses of high end treble, and some of my basses are strung with flats, but when I used a Stingray, I want to HEAR that treble snap more often that I realise. A Ray with flats sounds great, and a Ray with new nickel rounds also sound great, but if you have the new nickel rounds, and you want that Stingray bite and cut, it isn't as audible without a little tweeter. It sounds darker. I can prove this with my current Orange 1x15, the test I did with a Compact Gen 1, and the cabs I have here that do have decent horns.
6. This item has been sold. Thanks
7. I was fair in my vote. I've tried a Compact, and gigged it. I would personally like to understand the pricing structure VS TKS, which offer similar cabs, with very luxurious finishes, and have to be imported. Its hard to compare models, but the TKS cabs are actually cheaper and they come from Sweden. But, that is my curiosity, and no one has to even think of answering that!
8. The Max 12.2 is just two power amps in one amp.
9. Whatever happens with Ric and their dealings, I still want one. RIC 4003 PLEASE.
10.
Had a call from the Managing Director today, very apologetic, offered me a AD200B. Chuffed to nuts
WHAT!??!?! That is superb. What I can say is that Orange, being based in the UK, are extremely easy to deal with. Getting replacement heads every time is actually good, but they shouldn't keep blowing...bad luck I guess. See, if it were me, I'd see this as a good thread. Good service, replacements (assuming at no cost) and dealt with properly. You will not get this with many other brands. Ampeg? No way. Aguilar are great, but you pay for the fact they are imported and NOW we have a dealer network they have shot up £100! If you like the Orange, stick with it. Good folks and good products, and good prices as we are much closer to them!
11. What type of 'bass/lows' are you looking for? I think some of the other BF cabs might be more suitable if you want absolutely masses of deep low end?!
12.
The Mackie Blackjack gets good write ups for the quality of its pre's, but I'm not sure that it has digital input for your RH750 output I have a pre owned TC Electronic Konnekt 8 which sounds very nice and has all the connectivity you need and it's Firewire, a DI from my BH250 sounds good too, I've heard the RH digital out is awesome I think Presonus and Focusrite have good pre's from what I've read of them I use a Rode NT1 for vocals and acoustic guitar and I intend to get an SM57 for miking a g****r combo, you might consider something from Red5 which seem very good value for money, I may even end up with some of their stuff as it won't be leaving the house, it won't need to be as sturdy as a Sure mic There's plenty of info and reviews to trawl through and Gearslutz is a good source of user reviews Best of luck with your endevours
Cheers! On thinking about it, I doubt I'll mic the guitar rig...probably just straight in and mess about on the computer with adding the tones I want...bass would be DI'd or digital from the RH750 (although I'm happy just to go straight in from the DI if needs be), vocals might be best with an SM58, and then it needs MIDI for synths etc. I've added number 6, using it as a live DJ all in one box.
13. Hi all Any ideas on the best overall rhythm/drum/loops/samples unit I can use live and for recording for my Microsynth XL+? The Kaoss Pad's look a little over the top...I don't need synths I just needs the above! Unless the Kaoss pads are really good! I am also looking at the best way to record, (eg the best audio interface between £100 and £200). http://basschat.co.uk/topic/224453-recording-tips-which-audio-interface-bassdimicd-guitar-ampsynth-which-mics/page__pid__2303517#entry2303517 Cheers
14. Hi all What Audio Interface should I be looking at for a good quality recording for: 1. Bass from DI of my amps 2. Bass from the Digital Out of the RH750 3. Micing up a guitar amp 4. Very importantly, synth MIDI IN/OUT. 5. Vocals. 6. LIVE use for DJ nights (just basically playing sets at DJ nights, not really dance/mixing orientated although I will be using very basic mixing of mp3s so only needs basic ability to hook upto a computer and into a PA). I'm guessing for live DJ sets I need a mixer?? I am literally just going to be playing normal indie/mod tracks, no clever dance mixing needed... I know it won't be the best, but what can get for £100-200? I'll then need a quality vocal mic. It will be for all round recording/live work. Do I need an SM58? I know very little about AI and mic's! Cheers
15. The tone I'm after is a classic 60s fat warm thump. I think if I'm honest a Hofner Violin Bass or Ric 4003 played on the neck pup would be most suitable. The Ric seems cheap compared to the German Hofners!
16.
Shame you're not a bit closer as you could've tried mine. Both are fairly modern ones though. I've never tried an old T-bird.
Thanks
17. - Sold - Hi all I have found a small container of the Ernie Ball Wonder Wipes in my spare room. This is the one for the instrument. I've got too many of these and they need using up! They have NOT been opened, brand new sealed pot, but the lid has a small crack on on the plastic (just being 100% honest). The pot is still sealed with a factory seal though, and I doubt the plastic crack will make any difference. These used to be about £9.00-£10.00. http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Ernie_Ball_Wonder_Wipes-Instrument_Polish_4264/EB-4264S I'm just having a clear out...£3.50 delivered ONO. Paypal gift or bank transfer Cheers
18. Hopefully I am now keeping mine! It was far too good a price to sell just because I don't have much space! Space schmace....great cab. I think it's incredibly light!
19. The DB cabinets are absolutely fantastic. I have not as yet tried the amps
20. The Gibson EB-2 and EB-13 sounded the best to me. That shocks me as I'm not a massive Gibson fan. The P sounded a little thin even though I like a good P bass. Not so keen on the Les Paul bass or the TBird. Cool comparison, I liked it.
21. Overall view of TKS 12/6 WOT/Michael was kind enough to drop off and pick up the 12/6 that TKS sent over. I had the cab for a fair amount of time, and I was able to test it in a few environments. If I hadn’t picked up a Genz NX2 212T in the sale I would have invested in a TKS. The build is superb, they look fantastic, the 12/6 sounds fantastic, and the weight is pretty damn good. The 12/6 goes very deep and throws out low end with no effort at all. I would personally want a tweeter but that is of course an option! The tone is very clean and crisp. Highly recommended
22.
Blinkin' 'eck, we all seem happy to pass comment on the EB, but I can't recall many beyond myself owning one I'd definitely try and form your own opinion. I was going to remind you that I'm down the road if you want a try - indeed, Skej might still have one on one the wall of his shop still! I'll wait for someone to say you need a P-bass, now
I was in York at the weekend n all!
23.
And from a guy with 'Musicman' in his username
I've had that since before I owned one! Just a teenage dream of owning a Ray! I do not in any way try to badger the company for anything, and to be honest, they probably wouldn't have time anyway, as even Flea didn't get a Ray with his name on it.
24.
Bassdirect probably have the best stock in the U.K, Gareth. - they probably have the only stock of new USA models in the UK , in fact - but even then, don't expect to be overwhelmed with choice. They have never had mass-appeal or major mainstream marketing in the U.K, but they are excellent basses nevertheless. G&L have always been a slightly periphoral brand, even in America, but they are really excellent quality basses designed for use in the real world. Very powerful sound. Have you seen the new Tom Hamilton signature model? It's Telecaster -shaped, made out of Sugar Pine to be extremely lightweight and comes in a selection of very bling finishes. Might appeal to you , Gareth.
Sounds good to me!
