Thanks. I am a pretty quiet player, more likely to be told to turn volume up rather than down. Most gigs I use only one cab running at 8 ohms. No effects or eq boost except what is on my onboard active preamp and am more likely to cut frequencies than boost. The 9.2 is looking good.
As much as the 9.0 and 9.2 amps from Genz have always had a pretty solid low end, they are still cleverly tight in the low end. It will basically cut a lot of unwanted flappy boomy bass when the amp is flat. You can adjust this and allow more low end through (the high pass filter) with the filters on the amp, (more so with the Max 9.2). You will be fine.

A decent mic (oh, you have that already!). Ermm, a mic stand, a good quality one! I suggest one of the Hercules stands. If you don't need a stand, you are set. You might want your own XLR cable, but you probably already have that. Ahh, the world of the vocalist. I sometimes wish I could turn up with a mic, party, sing, then go home!

Call Mark at Bass Direct. They have Shuttle 6.2 and 9.2 amps on offer. I'd pick up the 9.2 and be done! Or, if you want to go the extra mile, get the Max 12.2 or Max 9.2.
Thanks TraceAmp. Naughty Ashdown - their site advertises the CTM15 as 'all tube', with an 'ECC83 driven preamp' and 'Dual EL84 power tubes'. Quite misleading of them, considering their reply to you.
Ay. A little disappointing.

I've heard that Ashdown have quite a lot coming out for NAMM this year...who knows! I do quite like the fact they are releasing a lot of valve amps!
Thanks!! I had the chance A/B-ing the NV610 and 2 DB212's once. Unfortunately the room was quite small. The 2 DB's blasted like a hurricane!! Unfortunately the Berg's cannot be tested here in Holland... A 15" is not a welcome speaker in most of the clubs and bars. But I cannot judge on the NV115 as it is not available Holland.....
I wouldn't worry so much about size (although I realise lot of brands tend to voice their 10" loaded cabs as tight and punchy, and 15" loaded cabs as more bass and low mid orientated) but look more at the voicing of the cabinet as a whole. The Aguilar DB12s are voiced to blend and be heard in the mix, so lots of mid-mid push, with plenty of sparkle up top. For a comparison, the Aguilar GS112s are the same speaker, but the cab sounds totally different, (very low end extended, a mid scoop). The Berg NV115 will be super tight and punchy as its a sealed cab, and no doubt Jim Bergantino voiced it to give it a more classic vibe (eg less low end flub). The mids should be great as it has a mid driver. I used to own two DB212s, but I sold them to get one 4 ohm DB212. I wish I had kept the two 8 ohm cabs now! But, I've never needed more than one.
I'm currently looking to get an orange ad200b all valve beast and when I tried it in the shop with their orange obc115 400w 1x15 bass cab it sounded awesome, it has an eminence kappa speaker in it (I believe) and I'm wondering whether a TKS cab (and which one) would be able to kick the same amount of huge richness and fat bottom end while retaining the surprisingly balanced sound and sparkly top end (and be a lump lighter)? I was very pleasantly surprised at how sensitive the orange cab was and at how good the slap sound was through it! Proper chuffin heavy though!!
I've heard many people praise the OBC115's sound. I have also heard people comment on its possible negatives, but these are technical negatives (which no doubt most cabs have). I have owned this cab for a fair few years now, and I still really enjoy the tone I get from it. It is exactly as you noted above. It's a warm, focused tone, with plenty of actual 'bass' but not overbearing. It is also quite musical and does have a suprising amount of detail in the top end.

Hey. This is a good question! I personally have not played the CN/HD cabinets, although I have heard VERY good things about both. Apparently, despite the failry high weight of the HD212, the cab absolutely slams and is very much a one cab solution. The Aguilar DB212/112 cabs are still my favourite cabinets made for bass guitar, so far anyway. I have a new GB NX2 212T which is MUCH lighter and easier to move, but I still need to A/B it with the Aguilar DB212. A few years ago, you could pick up DB112's for £450 new (with tweeter) and the DB212 was about £700. As much as I realise costs increase, the prices recently have shot up. I imagine this might be due to Aguilar now having a distributor in the UK, instead of selling direct. Aguilar are becoming quite a big brand; I just hope they stick to what they do best! (I've noticed more and more general music stores stocking it). I have heeard reviews stating the CN212 is quite similar to the DB212 sound. I say 'similar' as it might not be the same...

Who gone through simple to complex then back to simple bass?
Just had a look at the control diagram and apart form the fact that you get pickups 1+2 in series in what would be "all off" position it seems incredibly intuitive and versatile and not at all complex.
Indeed, it's very intuitive, however some have stated it has too many knobs and buttons! -

Some would say the EBMM Big Al is complex, but it is in fact just incredibly versatile! Thing is, it sounds more like a good P bass in the middle pup in passive than some P basses! -
If I was looking for a P style five string (and had the money) I would go for a Mike Lull.
I love everything style wise apart from that headstock

Sandberg or Fender. If you are spending big money, Sadowsky.

I've been reading through threads and I can't believe this thing is so cheap!!! I'm interested in one just for a bit of fun to be honest. I've has really good use from my (still owned) Tech 21 pedals but after trying 2-3 different units of the VT Bass DI I've given up (very expensive for the problems I was having with them). I love their pedals but I fancy trying a multi fx for fun!! Views?

Check out the (sometimes hard to find) Stingray HH or HS. You can get very woody P bass tones from those neck pups.

Stingray, for the following reasons: Paintwork Comfort Quality Control Available options Pickup placement for comfort with playing Tone (subjective I guess!) Versatility Truss rod wheel Style

Lied to by Music shop and poor repair work.
I thought that was just a legal requirement as part of the distance selling regulations?
Oh defintely, but music shops tend to be annoyed when you want to use it. -

The problem with music retail is that if isn't willing (as a whole, more so in the UK) to progress with times and understand the customer has a lot more power than the stores realise. We pay the salaries, we keep the stores going, and if we spend money, and the item isn't right, we deserve to have it put right. Think about when you spend say £300 on a designer coat on ASOS. They let you do what you want, so if it's not right for you or not as expected, you can send it back for free and get a refund. No attitude from a mardy musician. -
I'm afraid it will continue. It extends much further than just the instrument retail world.
That case is being shipped with Am. Deluxe JBasses, and PBasses.
There are some people receiving American Standards in this ABS case!
So Are you saying that you would choose the Markbass over the Berg?
Depends on what money you'd be prepared to spend. The Berg cabs are more refined, and Jim has golden ears in designing a bass cab sound. However, you may well prefer the NX2 or the NY212 in terms of sound/form factor/price. I don't know much about the Vanderkley...so I can't comment. In order: CN212 NX212 NY212 I'd also try the HD cabs from Berg. I would own a CN212 if I didn't pay the bargain price for a new MIA Genz NX2.
