1.
I bet you could buy Musicman20's Bergantino HS410 for around £825. They even use screws to attach the grill - hard to believe but true!
+1 I think even a new HS410 is around 929 with a cover, but yep if I was gonna sell rob would get it cheaper and have the best 4x10 ever! Covers all ground, awesome build quality, sensitive, loud, clear. It's heavy but really skinny and have 0 problems. Casters make it easy!
2.
I'm experienced enough to hear when a cab is going to cut it at a gig or not. No tops in non gig environment = no top at the gig. No note definition in a non gig environment = no note definition at the gig. Running a TD650 at 11 o'clock and the cab is not keeping up with a 2x10 = problems at a gig. Sometimes, you don't need to gig an item to know how its going to perform. Common sense prevails... but then again, I do spend my life gigging and been through a lot of gear to know how things perform.
I agree, if something doesn't sound right in any environment, including at home, I wouldn't bother.
3. Evem though I'm not on finnbass I'm aware of this thread. The bass world is small!
4. I definitely think it's materials as well. I bet the Mesa is really chunky and well built I have one neo cab, and it's impressed me a hell of a lot whereas others did not. That said, I still love ceramics.
5. Berg /Aguilar don't tend up get heavy criticism. Strangely as much as I like tolex, I don't mind the carpet covering on the HS cabs. it's very smooth and neat.
6. Unfortunately this whole forum does carry fads, with all different types of equipment. All it takes is 8-10 peole stating it's amazing, then all of a sudden people want it. Then, if you try to sell a small brand elsewhere, it grabs 0 attention. Happens on tbass too. I've tested certain amps that were raved about by the endorsers and I was shocked how much I didn't like it. Everyone is different and ages with different bands, so tone goals are different, eg the covers guys who are a little more mature might insist on lightweight. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not for everyone.
7. 1x Aguilar DB112, plus amp of your choice. I like MB LM 3 or TC RH450. All in combo? Gotta be Mesa Walkabout 112
8.
With respect Phaedrus - there's so many guys do the polar opposite with regard to these cabs, it's almost refreshing to hear a dissenting voice.
I have to +1 you there
9. Rob I'm a big AWS fan and he uses 10s with a stingray and tube amp. Loads of his tone is oh his ultra aggressive finger style, and bass, but, and no disrespect to anyone, for that classic punk punch you should go for 10s or 12s, IMO they do sound different to me. I've been playing punk for 14 years plus, and I like my orange 1x15, but you need some 10s in there! I await to be told I'm wrong, but that's life!
10. Very popular thread! I hope you get it sorted Rob. My thoughts are that you might be better suited to another cabinet.
11.
I've received my RS210 and Bonners have sent me a Peavy Pro500 as a temp amp for my gigs whilst we wait for TC to ship my RH450. This gave me a great chance to try the TC in comparison with my Hartke 1x15 and 4x10 that's being sold today. I for one love the look of the RS210 - yeah the finish is odd and the Peavy flightcase did leave some marks which just brushed off. I have got the cab cover and the carry bag for the pedal and amp (when it arrives). I love the sound of the RS210's punch and clarity and with the HF dial I'm sure that when the RH450 arrives I'll be sounding like I've wanted to for quite a while The RS210 does loose some bottom compared with the 4x10 and 1x15 (no $h!t Sherlock) but I tend to have a more low mid than purely low sound anyhow and I'm sure once my bank account is happy enough for me to get the RS212 I'll have pretty much a perfect rig with a small footprint. I've more bass is required the PA will sort that out I'm sure.
Sounds excellent! Let us know how it all goes!
12.
Did I miss something earlier in the thread? GG aren't even listing the L410 today, let alone at £400. Mark
it was only very limited stock and now I don't think gg will be stocking it.
13. I had a test of them. For the size, very punchy!
14. http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-AMG-SVT7PRO-LIST Just got this off tbass.
15. Hey everyone Just a heads up. This is one of my friend's adverts, and I said I'd put this on here for him. PM me if you want his email address or Tel number. All details in the advert below: www.gumtree.com/london/61/51076461.html He's a good lad and looks after his gear!
16. Sometimes, you need traditional cabs!
17. The 1000 will be mental!
18. Hi guys! In the end I went for the LM3. I loved how warm the response was. I've not tried a shuttlemax, but I've recently tried a Shuttle 9 and it was not for me. After hearing the Orange tube sound I suppose it made me realise I like amps with full tubes, or non at all! I've now also opted for the RH450, from TC Elec. The tube tone on that is fantastic considering there are no tubes! I don't think the LMTube sounded much different to the one without really, but it looks cool and has some decent features!
19.
I too use rubber rings (Grolsch bottle tops) and I think they are as reliable as anything. I've not had an accident in 15yrs of use.
Im still liking them. Its not that Im tight..far from it....but I like the fact they dont squeak. They also involve no mods, and basically look fairly decent. Im still mulling over just getting a posh strap.
20. I had a very similar experience. I compared mine to my LM3 and Orange AD200b Mk3. Thank you for being honest about it! Unfortunately mine also came with QC issues, down to GB, but I agree, it didnt feel like I imagine 900W would. Very brittle....no warmth. I also think it doesnt feel as solid as the Markbass micro amps....I don't know why. Maybe im just not into a hifi tone. I have sent mine back for a TC Elec RH450. Some people will love the 9.0....but Ive finally concluded the Genz sound isnt for me. I'm just glad my dealer was so helpful.
21. Brilliant colour and amazing blocks!!!
22.
I had an RS210 up till recently and really liked the sound of it with my RH450. Very clear and punchy springs to mind. When I bought the RH450 I checked it out at the Bonners store with the 210+212 and was very impressed. Cabs are a perfect match for the amp I think, and so they should be. The only reason I sold mine one was due to it not getting any significant use. The 210 in many cases was not capable of delivering enough volumn for me (although can hold its own against most 2x10s). I play in a 9 piece, drums one side, electric guitar the other. 3 singers, brass and keys coming through the front monitors. Very easy for a 2x10 to get lost with all that coming at you, even for just backline. If I had owned the 2x12 then I guess I would be happy with that as I mostly use my Tecamp S212 at this time. I'm currently in bass aquasition mode so may look into an RS212 springtime next year and see how that compares to the Tecamp. If it works out then another RS210 later to add for the bigger gigs. One highlight worth mentioning is the RS cabs HF driver. Very subtle but effective. Not at all harsh.
Cheers for the information. I think punchy would be great, and I think they are a very quirky yet good idea. I think an RS210 + 212 would be a monster of a rig.
23. Ohhhh yeah! Congrats....and I hope things continue to get better
24. Now I know the amps get a lot of praise, yet i've noticed now even their cabinets are getting praise on Talkbass.....even by owners with Berg gear. Has anyone tested them out? I like how they are designed....the fact they are tall and slim seems great to me. The price? Pretty good IMO....£374 for an RS210. I know they won't be to everyones liking....but lets face it....what is?! They will have new 'covering' soon as well....Ive seen the RS410 with the new finish and its much better. Ive enquired about the 210/212 finish and its coming soon. Quite tempted to have a jig about and sell some cabs then pic these up. Anyone want to chime in?
25. Bump....still had a few bands messing me about!
