1.
But it is a commercial product, at no cheap price, so people will say what they feel about them..that the business they are in.
Probably the most sensible thing said on this topic!
2.
people are to nice on this forum. If this was any other forum this thread would've got reallllll bad.
+ 1 I completely agree! Probably a good thing.
3. Oh no, I agree. You have to test, and test I most definitely did.
4.
I'm another one that used Neo's for a number of years (Epifani UL210's) and have now 'rediscovered' ceramics in the guise of a couple of Bergantino's 112's. Its a bit of an apples and pears comparison, two 2x10's against two 1x12's, but I also tried the Bergantino AE112's against the HT/EX pair I bought - the AE's sounded harsh and less musical in comparison to their Ceramic driver/heavier cab brethren.
I have to agree. +1. The AEs are nice, but didnt have the sheer grunt of the HT/EX ERs I tested. I wanted to go neo....but its not for me. I do like the Tecamp M212 I have, but im thinking of moving it on soon now the other one has sold in the for sale bit.
5. I personally dont rate Ampeg massively anyway....maybe the older stuff. But, it definitely had miles more clarity and punch than the Compact, and it was 8 ohms with my friends SVT Pro 3.
6. There has been hype....definitely. And that can lead to disappointment. Fortunately Im not struggling with any back problems....and I do make sure I get help when lifting cabinets. Weight to me is more of an issue with the amp and bass. I usually borrow backline cabs, so 80% of the time Im not hauling stuff around. I'm definitely on the school of thought that the ceramics still add something that neos cannot. Maybe thats ridiculous, but even store owners who test gear all day state the same thing. I also think Talkbass is a massive hype machine. It annoys me. Most of those guys are happy with 4 ohm 2x12s for everything, but for me, thats sometimes not enough. I got into the frame of mind of 'one cab solutions', but so far only the HS410 is that one cab solution....or something bigger like the NV610. We also must agree that some people here have totally different volume needs. Whats loud for one is quiet for another, (especially me, we play too loud, and to me I want to turn down, but I use ear protection so I dont have to worry). I tested the Compact with my full band at a gig, (yes a gig not my house) and the lows were there, but it got lost completely once the band starting playing. Rock bands need totally different setups to funk or jazz. We had to switch back to the Ampeg 4x10 for the next band. I appreciate the test, and it was light....but then again my HS410 weighs nothing with casters!
7.
That's Lake Placid Blue, isn't it?
Yep think so.
8.
You see it's all about individual preference and probably a bit of playing style and what music you play. I am the new owner of the "uninspiring, boomy, rigid, and dead sounding" DJ4. However, I have found it to be "inspiring, exciting, flexible and sounds fantastic". I also used to own a 2eq Stingray which I found to be lifeless in the treble department. My SUB4 however is a marvellous bass which will be with me as long as I am able to play. It all goes to show that the ideal way to investigate your own choices is to get out and play individual basses and make up your own mind. We are all different and look for different things in our basses. These forums also show that individuals can be extolling the marvellous sounds and features of their basses one minute and selling them the next. Trust your own ears and hands. All the best!
I have to agree. The DJ and JO Jazz sound is absolutely brilliant. It is deep....but wow does it sound amazing! Its like a different take on the Fender Jazz....but still doing the aggressive J sound, with a twist.
Cheers again guys. Michael, you make a good point about a MM sounding like a MM etc. I dont think ill go looking for "the one", just something comfortable to play. It could take me too long to find one that sounds just right, especially as i wont be taking my rig around so its really going to be down to the neck more than anything. and the colour of course. Im working right up to christmas eve so cant get to you before christmas but thanks again for the kind offer. Im going to try and get to the Gallery at some point. They seem to have a few on their new website although at £900 for a second hand one they are a bit out of my price range at the moment. Gareth, thanks also to you for the kind offer. Glad to see you now have a destination although that area came out of the blue didnt it? Pegasus, cheers, thats a great clip and a fantastic tone. We sometimes play Sancutry at weddings so maybe i can use that as an excuse when the other half realises i have a new bass. I forgot to mention before but one of the reasons i came back to this thread i is was watching Queen live in Montreal the other night and thinking what a great tone JD has and how he manages to do a whole gig with just the one bass. Went to the toilet, came back and thought his tone was even better on Another one bites the dust, looked at the TV and lo and behold, he is playing a StingRay of some sort. The GAS had started again.
I know. We searched high and low. We were told to 'avoid' certain areas in the south, but where we have now deposited is bloody lovely. Very quiet, modern, river views, next to the DLR, and HUGE amounts of space. Its very clean and very modern, with everything we need and amazing security. We got lucky I think....everything else we looked at was shabby and tiny. This place is like its own village away from the chaos. A good thing for me, I like to be able to get away, then go back into it at my choice. Cheers
9. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I was a non believer with TC until I actually tried one properly. Some of the stores have really badly EQ'd them and knocked down the preset volume. I tested one for 20 mins at Bass Merchant yesterday, and I was literally in awe of how good it sounds. The tube tone really does work well. It is, IMO, the best micro amp out there. And I've tested a fair few. I imagine the Mesa Walkabout head on its own is a very good competitor, with amazing sound, but the TC features work so well, (eg, unlike certain amps, its features do something....I am not a fan of cheap presets for example...and Ive never seen the point, apart from 1 of the Trace ones which I loved!).
10.
Cheers Mike. I tend to go into the Bass Gallery and lust after the Sei's - I used to live in Camden up until Sept when I moved out to East 17........... I'm loving the TC and am still playing with the settings. I'm so glad you can store 3 of them J
The TC is fantastic. I was a non-believer until I researched them...and then tested. Absolutely stunning. I think TC will be a big names in bass amps soon.
11. Cute! And I bet....very very awesome. Orange continue to impress me. If I didnt have the full rig i'd consider a similar setup but with 2 SP212s.
12. I love his tone on Runaway, (the Live at Abbey Road version is immense).
13.
To be honest, any Musicman you try will probably sound exactly the same. What I mean is if you try a bunch of 3EQ Rays, they will more than likely all sound and feel like 3EQ Rays. Not much difference if any between them all. They are not like Fender's where each one can feel and sound very very different. If you do get a bit desperate, then you are more than welcome to try mine over the Xmas period. This week especially I am doing nothing so you are more than welcome to pop down and have a play. You are always welcome.
This is a good idea! In addition, I'm moving to Royal Arsenal in Jan so that's an option also.
14. In addition, I was incredibly impressed with the RS210 + 212 Chris let me test today at BMerchant. Vastly underrated, I agree with TBass users that they are very very nice. I think it's the ceramic that does it for me...so warm. The 210 has perfect clarity n punch, and the 212 sounds HUGE. I tested a Lakland JO5 with it, the Passive B was AMAZING. Don't be fooled by the fact they aren't as expensive as some high end makers. Half of this is the non neo thing.
15. You can't change the EQ in the way you can on the RH. So many greAt features, I'd definitely recommend spending the extra!
16. I definitely think the Stingray is one of the best one trick ponies ever. Thing is, they are not, as you stick flats on it, and it's instantly fatter and more old school...less aggressive. The necks, IMO, are much quicker than people think. They are less chunky than a P. The attention to detail is also really good. I think the low second hand prices are crazy. No way would I sell any of mine below 800, but if you find one, it's a bargain! I think these basses will make a cone back soon, with Fender getting a lot of attention recently. I tried a Warwick 5 $$, and the wood and finish was stunning. Too heavy, and the neck was just not for me. Far too chunky and massive. Lovely low action, but Stingray wins for me. Then again, I just cannot deal with smaller bodied basses. The Gallery had loads! Have you been in to try any? I reckon a H will do, I agree with the above, 2 Hs are a little too much. Maybe a H+S? Another thing, despite Ed Friedland loving Genz, when I A/Bed my LM3 with the Shuttle 9 I had for a bit, the LM3 was a superb match. Markbass and MMs just work!
17. I just got this amp. I am stunned about how good this sounds. The videos online are good, but nothing prepares you for how tube like this amp is. It is very well designed, almost like the Apple of the bass world.
18. Names and logos aren't anything, but I really think the BF ones could do with a change. All IMO of course.
19.
Heya! I've only had a quick play around to make sure all's working as it should and I'm a very happy bunny. I'm just restringing my main gig bass and then will start playing with the multitude of settings to get my perfect sound. The Tube Tone is really nice to use and all-in-all the fact that I can put the RS210 on the little luggage trolley and slip the amp and pedal in the carry bag I think this may prove to be one of my best buys for a long time
What's the cab like?
20. Good amp!
21.
Hi there To describe the sound can be a mine field but .......as a Lakland Forum poster described it when someone asked what pick up was in his Skyline 08 BG? "If its the fattest sounding p/u you've ever hear its the Lakland p/u!" This is my Minkster with a lovely tort dress on. Ain't she purdy! What I'll say about the tone is that this bass sounds great through the range of the tone and volume knobs. It responds well and you can hear the difference i.e. if you have the tone and volume opened up on full and use a pick (with my preferred amp setting) I get a really nice edge to the tone - great for emulating that ampeg tone. Rolling back the tone knob and the volume slightly and playing with fingers yields a thicker, fatter tone. I basically set my preamp one way for the gig and adjust my playing style and the controls on the bass to get different sounds. It is very rewarding. The neck is great and the spacing is good for me. If you get the chance play one of these basses!
That sunburst is very very nice.
22. Would have traded one of my Rays for the White one...damn it
23. Best string suppliers....end of. Fast, match prices, nice chaps to deal with.
24.
Well - I for one am happy with the RH450 It's gonna be a darned site easier to get in a cab or on the tube - yes, that is a fold-up luggage trolley between the TC rig and the Hartke - I am now fully mobile in a carbon friendly way!
I like it! A lot. I picking my amp up this weekend and testing the cabs.
